Department Stores Run Competing Sales

This weekend is turning out to be a competitive time for department store sales. We want to make sure you spend your money wisely and allocate appropriately. Isn't that what the folks on CNBC are talking about when they speak of diversified portfolios?

Here are this weekend's highlights along with some upcoming sales. Notice that Bergorf's beauty event is coming up and equates to 25% off of $100 while Saks friends and family is 15% off cosmetics. Read, shop, save and enjoy:

Saks Friends and Family runs until Sunday, April 19th. The general discount is 25% off, an unprecedented 20% off for jewelry, and 15% off for cosmetics.

Until April 19th Bloomindales is offering an extra 40% off for a total savings of 50% to 75% off.

Bloomingdales friends and family event runs from April 23rd to April 26th. The discount throughout much of the store will be 20%. Chanel not included.

I beileve it was in the Post that there was also an full page ad for 40% off on 5F at Bergdorfs. I was there last weekend and they have several sale racks already, including lots of 50% off.

Saks was busy today but not much worse than a usual day considering I was there in the middle of the afternoon. The cosmetics department was busy! Decent amount of sale stuff considering we are still a month away from the major spring sale.

Barneys was dead!

Bergdorfs had a steady amount of people but not much in the sale area. Considering they are not running any promotions now, not so bad. Busier than Barneys and they have their gift card going on. Bergdorfs is also the only store that has the large Chanel "paper bag" style totes, amazing but still not sure if they are worth $3,000 in this economy.

Did Bergdorfs not send out cards about this event? Usually I get several of them either from the store or from individual counters, this time not a single one.

just a tip: if you call Nordstrom and tell them another competitor is having a sale, they will price match if the other store carries the brand you are looking for. It helps avoid the crowds!
