Saks Private Night 40% Off

The Saks mayhem all started this winter with Private Night. (Don't know what we're talking about click here to get the details.) They started with a 30% discount but then upped it to 40% and then history was made with 70% off sales.

Well, Private Night is upon us again and runs for two days, Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th. We expect the discount to be 40% off but everone from the corporate offices to the sales floor seems unsure on how this whole sales thing is going to take its course.

We hear that the top brass is waiting for Bergdorfs are Barneys to break first. Bergdorfs has a will of steal when it comes to sale season so it's going to have to be Barneys. The only question that remains is if the Private Night discount will turn into a full blown markdown or and at sundown Friday. We imagine that the 40% off will stick around for a while but don't expect any 70% off savings until at least mid-June.

Plan on Barneys breaking first and soon! The store was still not packed for the mens sale and that included most items, even those that do not usually go on sale. Bergdorfs and Neimans already told the Times they plan on holding out.

That being said can't wait for the Saks sale because this one normally includes Prada and I'm willing to shop at 40% off.

Is anyone sure that Prada shoes will be in this 40% off? Also, I don't always get Saks sales notices via email/snail mail. Will they just give it to you if you ask when you go to pay? Thank you!

Yes, I had the same question. Do you need to be invited to participate in the sale or can you just go to the store?

Is everything discounted with the exception of the "EXCLUSION List"? Or is the sale just for a few items and they just highlighted that Prada, Gucci, etc are not included (see Nov link).

I am surprised that you would talk so highly about BG when they are in fact offering discounts to their best customers in order to close a sale. I guess their "will of steel" isn’t so sturdy after all.

This Saks sale is when all the spring summer collections go on sale. It's not like friends and family sales that include classic items. Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Louboutin will be on sale but only the seasonal items.

Not sure about needing an invite for private night, never bothered going. I have never had a problem getting everything I wanted going opening morning. The trick is to go before lunch when they are not busy, have had almost the whole floor to myself before.

Have not heard of any major discounts at Bergdorfs, however it is no secret that Bergdorfs ViP gets treated very well.

Just got word that the first markdown at Neiman Marcus is friday, one day only. This is the sale they have every year the includes items that don't usually go on sale. It's only 25-30% off.

I went today and no Prada or Gucci, I was told not to expect that to go on sale anytime soon. My guess is because those are designers people are buying even without a discount. Bags were 30% off and included Dolce, YSL (not many), Valentino, a few Ferragamo, Marc Jacobs and basically all brands near the escalator. Didn't bother with shoes but did go for clothing. While not everything is marked down a lot is, and most of the stock is out. I bought several items that might get marked down again but they only had one left in my size, it was either 40% off or risk not getting it. They sales people were dying to make a sale and one even tried to tell me how amazing this discount was. I was also told it was nice to see the floors busy again and it was far from what I would call busy today.

i went last night & didn't think it was all that great. left empty handed. the place was dead. i would say about 30% of each designers line is on sale. a LOT still at full price. some MJ, Chloe, etc. on sale. bags were 30% off but selection was pretty lame. did not check out shoes.
