Ralph Lauren Friends and Family

Ralph Lauren is hosting another 30% off friends and family sale from today until Tuesday, April 14th. Take notice, in the fine print, women's Collection apparel and men's Purple Label apparel are not included. However, we did find a classic black Ricky bag in the sale section that was almost $2300 to start and ends up costing $1365 after the friends and family discount.

Still, spending $1300 for a bag right now seems very 2007. Nonetheless, the sale section has some great buys and many of them are under $100.

Scoop Sale Review

As promised we hit the Scoop sale and were pleasantly pleased. We spotted: Paige Denim for $75, a DVF dress for$120, Marc by Marc Jacobs jackets for $120, Rag & Bone blazers for $150, lots of Tory Burch for under $100, and a long Missoni gown for $400.

The best included black Roberto Cavalli dresses that were $1295 but reduced to $150. Our fitting room neighbor found a gorgeous Chloe knit that ended up costing her about $260. Sadly, the Alaia sweaters were still over a grand and some other Missoni dresses were still rather pricey.

The sale was a one day event but we have a feeling that what ever is left will stay, maybe without the additional 25%. Either way be on the look out for a bowl of cocktail rings near the register. They were originally $100, marked down to $9 and with the extra 75% off was $7. Great for gifts!

Scoop Consolidation Sale

Today we got an email about 75% off at Scoop. We know that song seemed familiar so we looked in our archives and found that Scoop had a 75% off sale way back in January. We were not thrilled about seeing the same old fall 2008 threads but we were still curious.

We put in a call to our favorite Scoop sale person and stylist extraordinaire and asked her for the real deal. Ranee told us that all the leftover inventory from all the Scoop stores in the country (11 stores in total) have consolidated their inventory on Third Avenue.

She said there's lots of very expensive clothing that was already 75% to 85% off and now it's an additional 25% off the tagged price. Expect to see lots of $3000 Missoni and Alaia reduced to $300 or $400. Now these are prices we can sink our credit cards into.

Stay tuned. We will be twittering live from the sale first thing in the morning and post a wrap-up here so that you're sure not to miss a single Matthew Williamson.

Off Season Shopping

This is one of the hardest times of the year for shoppers like us. The new collection is in, the weather is still cold and prices are still high. What's a shopper to do?

Go online. Normally we are not big fans of shopping online and those sample sale sites really remove all the fun from our sport. However, it's worth keeping your eyes open. For example, last May, Neiman Marcus threw their overstock Manolos online and were blowing them out for just about $100.

Then last night, on Saks.com, we came across $795 Louboutins marked down to $277. There was one size and guess what? The shoe fit!

Barneys.com has $430 classic pump Miu Mius marked down to $169. Bottom line: No matter the season a good deal can be found.

Stylist's Shoe Sale

We are loving this:

The ShoeStylista -- a shoe stylist, obviously-- sent fashionista an email promoting a private sale of Manolos and Louboutins at her apartment. We are sure that she has been overwhelmed with email requests because the link is also on Racked.com .

We emailed and are waiting to hear back. Let us know if you get a crack at the shoe sale. ShoeStylista, next time you want to unload your inventory please let us know first!

Details from fashionista are below.
To: tips@fashionista.com
From: shoestylista@gmail.com

Hi Britt & Natalie,

I’m a freelance stylist looking to rid of about twenty pairs of shoes. They’re in mint condition, straight from this season’s runways and presentations. There are custom Manolo sandals and booties and Louboutin styles include the Peniche, Miss Golf, Defil, Lapino ankle booties and Rolandos. They range in size from 37.5 to 41.5 and in price from $250 to $375 with the over-the-knee black Manolo boots going for $500.

I’m doing an open to the public sale at my apartment and was wondering if you know anyone who might be interested. They can email me for more information/the address.

Thanks!

Hermes Sale Update

A Mad-Spy reader writes:

I stopped in today and there is the normal scarves and ties. Nothing great in shoes, some belts, lots of leather goods (bags included), canvas garden party bags in small sizes only. Plus the normal clothing racks that no one is touching, some of the things are the same as last sale. Shoe prices were higher than last time but bag prices were lower.

Racked.com reviewed the first day of the sale and said that the line was anemic compared to prior sales (just 40 mins). Even big spending Hermes fans are keeping their hands in their pockets this season.

The sale ends Saturday, so we are thinking that the line should be pretty lean tomorrow about 3pm. Let us know if we're right!

Loehmann's Helps Fight Ovarian Cancer

On Thursday March 26th, Loehmann's is sponsoring the Fashion Funds for Hope event in all stores across the nation. Give a $5 donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at the register and you get 15% off.

The $5 donation plus 5% of the proceeds from that day go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. We have friends working at the event in the Chelsea store in the evening. Take a spin by, say hello, spend some money, save some money, pray for a cure.

Bloomingdales and Saks Updates

A Mad-Spy reader writes us that the Bloomingdales sale is better than we were told:

"It's actually for every $100 you get $25 off your overall purchase. Plus 20% off almost anything on the second floor and 40% off already reduced merch. Just an FYI I was there last night!"

Another fan scouted Saks today and says:

I got a great free mani pedi but there's nothing on sale.

Bloomingdales "Private Sale"

Bloomingdales is hosting a "private sale" from March 31st to April 2nd. We have no idea why the sale is being called private because the incentive isn't even great. For every $100 you spend you get a $15 gift card. Presale started today.

The difference between the Saks gift card incentive and Bloomingdales is that Bloomies gives you the gift card for big designer names like Chanel. Lets see how much longer that lasts. Good incentives never last long.

Saks EGC

Saks is really pushing these electronic gift cards. (The last one was March 4th.) Too bad the gift amounts keep going down and the restriction list keeps getting longer. The one day event is Thursday, March 26 and coincides with triple points. Nothing Chanel-Louboutin-Prada-like is included.

The levels are below but we think you're better off waiting to make your purchase during the Saks Friends and Family sale, which is scheduled for April 30th to May 2nd.

Electronic Gift Card Values

Spend some... Get some...
$250 to $499... $25
$500 to $999... $50
$1000 to $1999... $100
$2000 to $2999... $300
$3000+ ... $450

Hermes Sample Sale

It's that time of year again...

Hermes Sample Sale
When: 3/25/09-3/28/09 Wed-Sat 10am-6pm Thur until 8pm
Where:: The Metropolitan Pavilion 123 West 18th Street (btwn 6th & 7th ave)

Past experience has told us that the lines are long. Very long. The best merchandise is the silk ties and scarves. Do not expect to find Birkin Bags, Kelly Bags, or any of the leather "must haves." Past sales have included many canvas bag styles but nothing worth waiting on a three hour line.

YSL 90% Off at Saks Jandel

We are hearing on-line rumblings that the Saks Jandel-- Not to be confused with Saks Fifth Avenue-- is discontinuing their YSL department. Spies say that the sale is up to 90% off with bags and shoes 50% off.

We know nothing about the store expept that it's is independently owned by the Marx family of Washington and it's located in Chevy Chase, MD. Here's the phone number if you would like to place an order: (301) 652-2250

Michael Kors Sample Sale

At this point I think everyone and their grandmother has sent us a link or an email forward of the Michael Kors sample sale. Even Peachy Deegan, of Whom You Know, was sending us a code red fashion alert.

So the day came and Racked published the details, "a solid 75% off of everything still means Kors' $1,595 dresses are $399." A steal, nah.

The $399 price tag is steep but we have a bigger problem with the 75% off. Three days after Christmas the boutique prices were 70% off. There is no way that a sample sale experience is worth the 5% difference.

The sale runs through Saturday -- more details below-- we suggest you wait until then if you're really dying for some MK. Maybe they will do another markdown for the last day?!

Where:
Metropolitan Pavilion
125 W 18th St
(b/n 6th and 7th aves)

Friends and Family Day:
Thursday, March 19 - noon to 8pm

Public Shopping:
Friday, March 20 - 9am to 7pm
Saturday, March 21 - 9am to 7pm

Free Stay at the Wynn or Encore

Today's weather was gorgeous-- but it's March --and it's back to being cold tomorrow. This is the time of year that we all really become intolerant of the cold. It's enough! And it's been a long winter. Isn't it the perfect time to head out on for a mini-holiday, as they would call it in the UK.

Airfares are cheap and the Las Vegas Wynn and Encore hotels are enticing guests with two free nights. Dan's Deals promises that there are no strings attached. No minimum stay. No hidden fees. All you need to do is use your American Express Platinum Card or Centurion Card and pay the normal room tax, which runs $25 a night. The offer runs until April 25th and there are several black out dates, which are listed below.

The Wynn is the world’s most expensive resort, topping out at $2.7 Billion in construction fees. The Encore, which opened just two months ago, is the sister multi-billion dollar tower built just adjacent to the Wynn. Friends have used the promotion to coordinate long weekends by booking two nights at the Wynn and another two at the Encore.

Your Platinum travel concierge should easily be able to hook you up. If asked, the promotion ID number is E1320401. You should even be entitled to your normal Platinum/Centurion privileges, which includes a free breakfast and dinner.

Here are the blackout dates:
03/05-03/07
03/19-03/21
03/23-03/24
03/27-03/28
03/31-04/02
04/15-04/21

Threads Replaced by PB Teen

Looks as if Pottery Barn isn't so ready to give up it's tony Second Avenue retail space. Last month, we reported that the Threads concept store was closing. In it's place will be PB Teen, which is slated to open March 21st.

PBteen began as a catalog and web site in 2003, and the first stand alone store opened in Atlanta, in Oct. 2008. The brand describes itself as "a fun line of exclusive furniture and accessories from Pottery Barn, created just for teenagers."

We imagine that teens in Atlanta might dig the concept but children in NYC-- on the Upper East Side-- are much more sophisticated. We wouldn't be surprised if the store demographic skews downwards from teen to the 4 to 9-year-old age bracket.

Juicy Couture Friends and Family

We are going to start this off by saying that there isn't a person here who has over owned, worn, will own, or will ever wear a velour track suit. Now that we have that out of the way...

Juicy Couture is hosting a friends and family sale where "almost" absolutely everything --except fragrances and strollers--will be 25% off. The promotion runs from March 19 to March 22nd and is only valid at Juicy Couture retail locations. So go to the Fifth Avenue store and don't fight with a Bloomingdales sales associate.

We cannot and will not be responsible for how this coupon is used. We're just going to hope it's for shoes or something for your kids.

Bloomingdales Spending Incentives

Bloomies likes when you spend and loves when you spend big. The current store promo offers shoppers a discount that increases with the more you spend. The breakdown is below:

Spend $100 to $249.99 and save $25
Spend $250 to $499.99 and save $50
Spend $500 to $999.99 and save $100
Spend $1000 to $1999.99 and save $250
Spend more than $2000 and save $500

The shopping incentive runs until Sunday, March 22nd. On a quick run through the fourth floor we spotted winter boots 50% off and a rack of shoes ranging from 30% to 50% off. There was even a pair of berry colored Chanel flats on the discount wall!

Pinkberry Promo

This might be a bit low-brow for Madison Avenue Spy but we couldn't resist. Pinkberry is offering buy-one-get-one-- need we say more? The offer is good until March 21st. Enjoy!

Gap Give and Get

There are few things we love more thank cause related marketing. It's a win-win situation, especially when the store is offering 30% off.

When you shop online or in-store at Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy from March 12th to March 15th you'll get 30% off your purchase. What's even nicer is that 5% of what you spend will be donated to a Gap non-profit partner of your choosing.

We chose the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society but other options include, Teach for America, Feeding America, Boys & Girls Club, WWF and The Global Fund.

Petit Bateau Discount Promo

Even sweet Petit Bateau is feeling the pinch of a 6500 Dow. Right now, the Madison Avenue boutique is offering a discount promotion if you sign up for their mailing list. The more you spend the more you save. What's even better is that the savings can be applied to your current purchase (unlike department gift card promotions.)

The promotional breakdown is as follows:

Spend $150 and save $30 (20% off)
Spend $120 and save $20 (16.7% off)
Spend $80 and save $10 (13.5% off)

If you don't have $150 to spend find a friend to pad your bill. After all, it's never possible to have too many tee-shirts.

Look For Less: Jelly Flower Sandals

We are starting to get an idea of what's destine to become the "must have," "I need," and "I want" for summer 2009. Not far from the top of the list are the striking and playful jelly Chanel sandals.

These colorful, flower adorned, plastic flip-flops retail for $295. Yes, they have a novel quality --reminiscent of a Jelly Kelly-- but that's a lot of lettuce for one season of jelly.

Fear not, during our Third Avenue travels today, we jumped into Shoe Box for a quick once around. We didn't find much but a jelly-something did catch our eye. See the resemblance? For just $35 how can you say no?

Saks March EGC

Saks is gearing up for their March electronic gift card promotion. The event is on March 12th, but pre-selling has already started. There are some brand restrictions. Our sales person told us Chanel, Prada, Gucci, and Jimmy Choo are excluded, but everything else is free game. (We think Christian Louboutin is also excluded.)

Here's the March breakdown:
if you spend... you get a giftcard for...
$250-$499 ...$25
$500-$999... $50
$1000-$1999... $100
$2000-$2999 ...$300
$3000 or more ...$450

Notice how Saks is getting increasingly stingy with the gift cards? During the January promotion there was a $1000 gift card when you spent $3000 and and $500 worth of spending would earn you a $75 gift card.

Fortunoff Bankruptcy Non-Sale

Last week, Fortunoff announced bankruptcy and was ordered by the courts to liquidate approximately $212 million in inventory. In a press release the company stated, " Customers will find tremendous savings on everything in the store, including fine jewelry and watches, antique jewelry and silver, everything for the table, fine gifts, home furnishings including bedroom and bath, fireplace and outdoor furnishings."

Turns out the Fortunoff liquidation sale is turning out to be very similar to the much publicized Circuit City sale, or non-sale. Jewelry and china are discounted just 10% off. Diamond suds and solitaires are only 15% off.

As a knowledgeable consumer you know that the price of gold is skyrocketing but you also know that the diamond industry is dead. The price of small stones are down about 20% and larger stones (2 carats to 7 carats) are down even more. So when shopping the Fortunoff bankruptcy sale or your local jewelry shop, just remember a sale has provide a consumer with some sort of value to really be considered a sale!

Find out how to calculate the real value of gold on Wiki Answers. Oh, the company is only accepting credits and gift certificates until March 8th, so cash them in now. Maybe a bigger markdown will come soon there after.
