Saks Gift Card Event

Saks Fifth Avenue is gearing up for their September electronic gift card promotion. The shopping incentive starts September 30 and goes through October 1. Online shoppers can take advantage of the campaign starting immediately.

Unfortunately, there are lots of restrictions but that won't stop us from browsing. Discount Missoni, Beyond Target

Finely woven wool blazers and elegantly tailored jackets are the more pricey items. The most wanted items, knit sweaters are $360. Lightweight silk print tops and sweaters are a bit more budget friendly at $300. We also spotted a few embellished and woven Missoni gowns in “The Vault” for $600. For the fashionista on a budget, we found it hard to resist the $40 socks and woven Missoni hosiery, including $80 thigh-high socks perfect for wearing under boots with a skirt.

Keep in mind that these prices are just temporary. Filene's tends to mark down items very quickly. Before you know it the collection will be an extra 75% off and that Missoni coat and gown will be just $150.

At the farthest most uptown TJ Maxx, we spied enough M by Missoni to make you mind zig-zag. Most dresses that incorporated the iconic knit were priced at $230 (retail $460) and long cardigans were $200 (retail $400+). We suggest opting for the dresses that are part-knit and part-print so that your new purchase will never be confused with a mega-store collab.

Last week we scouted out the new Century 21 on the Upper West Side and found plenty of the Italian company’s playful prints for discounted prices. Silk scarves ranged in price from $40 to $120 and large wool scarves were between $180 and $100. Shoes were $300 and rainboots were just $120.

If your mouth watered from the Missoni home collection, at Target,, you may want to head over to DDC. The design store is having their biannual Missoni Home sale and current floor stock is discounted 15% to 30%. Although the discount isn’t large, the quality and array of items are sublime. Signature bath towels are $236. Woven throws originally priced between $455 and $850 are now 15% off. Plenty of throw pillows, which retail between $200 to $400, are 30% off. Small ottomans in an array of sizes and prints start at $615 but are also 30% off. Larger versions are over $1000 and only marked down 15%. Unfortunately, bedding is not included in the sale but designers can get a 15% discount on all custom orders, all the time. This sale ends Oct. 31.

Hermes Sale Let Down

The Hermes sale officially starts on Thursday but today press and VIP's were given early entry and access to the best selection of merchandise. As usual, we sent in our top spies, but they were unexpectedly disappointed. As a matter of fact, we are told that the entire experience was a let down.

"It was horrible," said our Hermes sale veteran. It wasn't just the merchandise or the prices that were a disappointment but our spies were disturbed by their entire experience. "First they were not letting anyone in at all. After waiting and witnessing horrible behavior from shoppers -- line cutting and nasty arguing -- we were let into the sale. There were only about 20 shoppers inside the sale but they still made people wait outside."

The sale went down hill from there. There were virtually NO BAGS. The only exception was a "hanous" Garden Party that was an irregular shape. There was only one small box of gloves and just a few belt straps with no buckles. The sale contains NO SCARVES and ties are marked $111 from a retail of $185. Crystal glasses started at $300 and up. "Pathetic."



So what can shoppers expect to find if they do decide to brave the sale? There are shoes and there is jewelry. Shoes are marked about 40% off and most jewelry items are 50% off. Sounds decent, right? Well it's not.

Our spies say that most of the merchandise appears to have been marked up for the sale. "On most items there were three stickers. If you peel them away you see that the shoes were marked down lower than they are selling them for at the sale."

H sandals range in price from $220 to $340. The stranger the color, the cheaper the shoe. Most other shoes are priced at about $500 and boots are about $1100. The sale also had lots of enamel bracelets but no Clic Clacs. There is also a limit of two jewelry items per-person. Strangely enough, a lock is considered a piece of jewelry.

Our spies are giving this sale two thumbs down. Between the marked up prices and the shoppers who acted like WWF contestants "it's just not worth it!"

Baccarat Jewelry Sale

Starting Thursday, Baccarat is hosting a jewelry sale where select items will be up to 70% off retail. Unfortunately, crystal housewares and decorative items are not included int he sale but you will be able to find a wide array of bracelets, earrings, pendants, necklaces and rings.

If past season's sales are any indication, some items may even be marked down lower than the advertised 70%. We just caution you about the rings. One wrong swing of the hand and you have shards of broken glass on gold.

Madison Avenue Petit Bateau Closing

The Madison Avenue Petit Bateau is closing this Friday. The store is liquidating samples and old merchandise at rock bottom prices. Boxes of merchandise are broken down by size and gender and have been placed in the middle of the store. The company's famous cotton t-shirts are $10 and baby onesies are $5.



Most of the merchandise has been well picked over but there are still plenty of tees in size 12. There is also a box of men's underwear and girls dresses. The best deal though is the fixtures. A display bathtub is $50 and tables are just $20. Someone with a keen eye for decorating would have a blast picking up decor pieces at incredible prices.

This Petit Bateau location is the only store in Manhattan. Once the boutique is closed shoppers will have to head to Beverly Hills, Boston or online to shop for this European iconic brand.

Century 21 Upper West Side Opening

 A trip to the orrigional downtown Century 21 always carries a certain level of dread mixed with the anticipation of finding a good bargain. Century 21's new store, on Broadway and 66th street, is a much more pleasant and fruitful shopping experience. The store doesn't offically open until Thursday, September 22nd but we were able to use our VIP connections to spy the merchandise.

Upon entering the store, shoppers will immediately see the huge difference between the new location and downtown: the spaces, the décor and the accessories. Huge glass encasements contain all the high-end designer goodies. Derek Lam bags were on display. Two gorgeous clutches--in olive leather and black and white pony hair-- were both $229.97. Despite seeing none of their popular embossed totes, some Carlos Falchi python clutches ranged in price from $299.97 to $439.97 and a large hobo was $1100.



There was a good selection of sunglasses ranging from $69.97 to $99.97 with designer labels like Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Oakley and Ray-Ban. Towards the back of the accessories floor there is a massive selection of silk scarves by Versace, Givenchy, Salvatore Ferragamo, Missoni and Pucci ranging from $40 to $120. We spotted Missoni and Fendi wool scarves behind the cash registers going for $79.97 to $99.97. (Who needs Target Missoni with these prices?)

Heading downstairs to the shoe department, we immediately noticed two racks replete with various styles of Manolo Blahniks all around $250. We found Blahnik booties hanging on the wall for between $300 and $400 but the the overall selection of designer boots was not all that impressive. They did have much better shoe brands than downtown, with racks of Givenchy, Casadei, Sergio Rossi, Pucci and Missoni.

In the designer clothing section, on the second floor, we found Halston Heritage, Escada, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood, Just Cavalli, Viktor & Rolf, McQ by Alexander McQueen, Emilio Pucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Love Moschino, Cacharel and Marc Jacobs. It's not the Prada, Lanvin and Balman we used to find downtown but that was a very long time ago.

Although the clothing area is more spacious and better organized than expected, waiting 45 minutes in the only seemingly unairconditioned part of the store will be unaccaptable once the store officially opens. To bypass the fitting rooms alltogether, we suggest wearing leggings and a layer tank to do try-ons in front of the numerous mirrors throughout the floor.



Prices were not surprising. Dresses from Pucci and Viktor & Rolf dresses ranged in the $500-area. A McQ tuxedo blazer will set you back $399.97 but a Diane Von Furstenburg’s silky beige boyfriend blazer is a much better deal for $80. The best deals were on Halston cocktail dresses that wereall priced about $149.97.

Our overall experience at the newest Century 21 was quite pleasant --minus the dressing room debicle. We highly recommend the bountiful accessories and shoe department and the geographically desirably location!

Fashion Week: Bill Blass

We thought we would close up fashion week with an American classic, Bill Blass. The collection was shown at the Union League Club, which had the feel of a intimate European fashion show. Designer, Jeffrey Monteiro clearly charted the collection in a nautical direction. Much of the collection was shown in navy blue and white and anchors. The overall look was minimalist natural beauty.

Although the fabrics were luxurious and the cuts elegant, we thought that the nautical theme was a bit too literal and lacked a strong vision for the brand. We hope that Jeffery's vision becomes more distinct as seasons progress. There's nothing that we would like to see more than Bill Blass return to it's perch as a top American trend setting brand.

Stand out trend: Yacht club prep with a splash of neon yellow

How to get the look: The make-up and hair in the show was very natural. Tight and high pony tails and nude cosmetics. The nails were short and round in Deborah Lippmann's classic Parisian red, aptly named, It's Raining Men.

Who makes it work: Your garden variety Nantucket blond

Fashion Week: Norma Kamali

Staying true to her reputation as a fashion and technology trailblazer, Norma Kamali presented her spring 2012 collection in the most high-tech structure imaginable. In place of a traditional catwalk, Norma Kamali's showed her fashions through 3D glasses on a 42-foot screen. Starting tomorrow, this fashion technology will be integrated to a new Norma Kamali website where shoppers can view the film and 3D shopping pages. We know Norma isn't stopping here. Next season we're expecting holograms.

As for the fashion, what can we say? It's Norma Kamali! There are streaks of trendy neon, creative use of fabrics and a breezy use of tassels. Each item is a statement of its own.



Stand out trend: We can only guess what flashy ad campaign will use the orange tassel dress.

How to get the 3D look: Facebook fans of Norma Kamali can receive 3D cat-eye glasses to better appreciate the intricacies of the new site.

Who makes it work: The lighthearted with a vision of the future.

Fashion Week: Improvd

Mastering the contrast between hard and soft, feminine and edgy, is no easy task. With ethereal blue tie dye dresses holstered with textured leather belts, Improvd hit the nail on the head. The collection was sexy, with slits up the skirts and leather detailed wrap dresses, but it looked comfortable and put off an chic bohemian vibe.

Stand out trend: Sky-like print tie dye maxi dresses with thick black leather belts

How to get the look: This messy French braid is easiest to have done by someone else, but with a little hairspray and a lot of Bobby pins, you can pull it off yourself. Uncleaned hair will make this easier. Tease the top and start braiding from the crown of the head all the way to the ends. For the eyes, we are seeing copper eyeshadow almost at every show. It's absoulutly time for a trip to Sephora. Depending on eye shape, apply shadow liberally, use minimal mascara and pair with a natural lip tone.

Who makes it work: The California girl who made the move to the Big Apple look effortless; she kept her Boho style but mixes it up with edgy accessories.

Fashion Week: Diesel Black Gold

The Diesel Black Gold show was set in an industrial warehouse space where the utilitarian, androgynous style of the collection mirrored it's rugged environment. The denim experts branched out into a new direction with rich colors and metallic material that proved to be a unique interpretation of urban wear with "a collection that proposes light and reason." Menswear inspired looks with sparkly details and strappy wedges created the perfect balance between femininity and masculinity.



Standout trend: Deep emerald green metallic moto jacket; paired perfectly with a striped button up and dress shorts.

How to get the look: To achieve the androgynous "I could care less look" don't bother blowdrying your hair. Instead, towel dry it and apply mouse by scrunching with your fingers; remember how to scrunch? Especially apply mouse to the roots where you want to create a little bit of volume and shape. Then, carelessly tie back into a ponytail or loose bun. The trick to this look is applying just the right amount of makeup to look doll faced and fresh, but not overdone. Bronzed cheeks with highlighted cheekbones, with all over eyeliner and light shadow does the trick. A brown based eye palette works best to shade the shape of your eye while mascara and nude lipstick finish off the look.

Who makes it work: The city chic with an "I just rolled out of bed and still look cooler than you" attitude...and yeah, this is your boyfriend's shirt.

Missoni Crashes Metro Area Targets

The Missoni collection launched this morning and by 8am Target.com was down. Even early shoppers complained about items disappearing from their cart and being unable to locate items from Target ads.



Store managers all over the area say there were long lines at the crack of dawn. Most stores in our area were pillaged within an hour of opening. We called several location within a reasonable distance (and not so reasonable distance) of New York and this is what we found bfore. All our calls were made before 9:45am.

Fashion Week: Perry Ellis

Perry Ellis's summer 2012 collection had prominent themes of earth toned safari mixed with white linen resort and khaki colored businesswear. Linen in a variety of muted colors dominated the runway. Chunky cable knit sweaters and a dose of thin summery sweaters were highlights of the collection. Accessories such as linen scarves, surcingale belts and espadrilles continued with the relaxed theme of the collection.



Standout trend: The trend for Perry Ellis is distinctly linen. An ensemble that resonated throughout the show was the pairing of a linen safari jacket with a white t-shirt and knee length shorts.

How to get the look: Several NYC discounters are now clearing out summer goods, including linen shirts, shorts and jackets. Marc Jacobs @ Dior is a Done Deal

Sources tell Madison Avenue Spy that Marc Jacobs has officially signed the deal to take over as lead designer of Dior. The deal was closed last week but executives decided to hold back the information until after September 11th. An official announcement will be made this week.

Like most business negotiations the big sticking point has been Marc Jacobs' compensation. Executives feel that it was a natural progression to have Marc take over for the house of Doir "he gets more staff, more perks, but it's not f*ck you money," our source says. .

Were we unable to extract exact dollar amounts but was told "It's not a "stunning" offer." We can't say we aren't surprised. After all, this is fashion and where the flash often outshines the cash.

Fashion Week: Lela Rose

Lela Rose’s vision of this season's trends were more ethereal and feminine. We noted exaggerated eyelets and cutout details, embroidery, shimmering flowy fabrics and an overall flirty but classy vibe. Her A-list audience attendees like Mandy Moore, Susan Sarandon and Mariska Hargitay testify to the wearability and classic lines that define her collections. Her unique twist for summer 2012 was incorporating a sherbet palette, especially in some unconventional color blocking and mosaic and floral prints.



Standout trend: Unique fabrics, bold details and embroidery gave her classic signature sheath style dresses new life when paired with flatteringly structured shoulder sleeves.

How to get the look: Effortlessly flowing hair got a bedhead boost with a bit of volumizer and tousling. Make a side part, and take the first inch of hair framing your face, then proceed to twist across and downs towards your ear. Incorporate the other sections of hair like a French braid –but twisting only- until you can secure it behind your ear with bobby pins. Don’t forget to complete your girly look with a pretty pink gloss for your pout.

Who makes it work: Uptown ladies who want a fresh take on classic silhouettes that are feminine and figure flattering.

Fashion Week: Katya Leonovich

 Thus far into fashion week we have seen two obvious trends emerge: bright and bold versus more soft and feminine looks. This dichotomy was highlighted by Russian designer Katya Leonovich’s presentation. Avant-garde designs ruled and were complimented by spiky wind-blown hairdos. Bold lines and colorful draped prints with angular hemlines were some of her more wearable pieces. Fresh looks incorporating cutouts, pleated folds and even fringe will keep this designer on our watch list.



Standout trend: Colorful draped chiffon prints with cutouts and unique strap detailing provides a break from the ordinary maxi style dresses.

How to get the look: While we don’t suggest trying the spiky hairstyles for fear of putting out an eye, we loved her neutral eyes paired with just-bitten looking matte lips. First, put some concealer on your eyelids, followed by a highlighting crème with a bit of shimmer. Lightly line your upper lids close to the lash line with an ultrafine black or dark brown liner. Complete the look with one light coat of mascara and a mauve or berry lip stain. Not ready to go out and purchase a lip stain? Try the trend first by taking your favorite lip stick, applying a coat and then blotting it with a tissue to leave behind a hint of matte color.

Who makes it work: Downtown-chic divas who are ready to ditch the prerequisite black for some much needed pops of color.

Fashion Week: Libertine

Who says fashion week has lost its fun? Libertine designer, Johnson Hartig, has proved the naysayers wrong. His collection was bright and full of color even though the designs were almost all black and white. Almost every piece was playful and driven by youth culture. A full skirt and t-shirts were printed with the phrase “Tax the rich more" and coats and mini dresses were patterned with x’s and o’s. Even the shoes were spirited and were a black and white print that extended from the tights.



Standout trend: In a season that almost every designer is showing bright or florescent colors Johnson's collection was almost strictly black and white.

How to get the look: At the end of a party filled night, take all the pins out of your hair and shake it out really well. Then rub your eyes a bit to get your eye liner to give the effect of a smoky eye at 1am.

Who makes it work: The party girl who isn't worried about what others are saying. She does the talking and makes the rules.

Fashion Week: Jill Stuart

Bright colors and a lady like silhouettes ruled the runway at Jill Stuart. The use of drop-waisted shifts and inverted-pleat skirts that were often mid-knee reminded us of classic Italian styling. Like many of the collections we've seen thus far, Stuart used bright colors to liven her designs. Bright orange-reds, mint greens and turquoise kept the collection lively and young.

Standout trend: Dreamy femininity with a 1960s twist. Chunky two-tone metallic heels were a major crowd pleaser.

How to get the look: Blow hair until almost dry and work in lots of mouse. Blow your front bangs straight with a large round brush. When the rest of your hair is just about dry, tease and finish with hairspray to give the appearance of a teenager's unfussy hair.

Who makes it work: Barbie can make any of these designs look great even after she has been thrown around in the toy box

Fashion Week: Honor

The Honor show proved to embody an understated elegance through the use of delicate materials, soft pastel colors and classic feminine tailoring. Designer, Giovanna Randall, used a-line skirts, bright pantsuits and flat shoes to create a look that was both refreshing and playful.



Standout trend: Effortlessly chic short jumpsuits that button up to an exaggerated collar; A perfect play on cool-chick androgyny when paired with lace-up Oxford flats.

How to get the look: Part your hair far over to one side and carefully sweep it over one ear. Pull the other side tight and fasten a loose, low ponytail. Spray to keep in place. Keep a clean face for an easy look, only adding lower lid eyeliner and tons of mascara, emphasizing the lower lashes. Use a pink matte lipstick to enhance the natural color of the lips.

Who makes it work: Off-duty models and waspy working girls who like to keep things simple and chic.

Fashion Week: Son Jung Wan

Koren designer, Son Jung Wan presented a youthful, experimental collection ranging from elegant, tailored pieces to funky leather ensembles with splashes of snakeskin. Sequins, fringe detail, and pocket embellishments made for an unpredictable display of various trends.



Standout trend: Navy blue silk tapered dress with a pleated back and leather fringed shoulder straps.

How to get the look: First part hair on the side with a fine toothed comb and remove any tangles. Next, separate your hair into two large pieces and, using the comb along the side of your head, tightly wrap one section over the other and secure with large bobby pins. Push the up towards your scalp to create a voluminous ponytail. Fix any strays with small pins that match your hair color and spray all over.
Line the eyes with black liquid eyeliner and use a touch of brown shadow over the top lid. Use a pale pink or nude lipstick with a clear gloss over the top for a pretty pout.

Who makes it work: Rockstar girlfriends tiny enough for leather shorts, but classy enough to appreciate the effortless appeal of a tailored blazer.

Fashion Week: Tadashi Shoji

Tadashi Shoji invited fashion lovers to a lively garden party where his cloths were inspired by a variety of flowers but particularly the tulip. Luckily not all the garments were literal replications of the tulip. Tadashi used the color gradation of the flower to punctuate his deigns and accentuate the natural beauty of his flowing fabrics. The runway was filled with umbrae painted dresses and pretty tiered ruffle gowns.



Standout trend: Dresses that have he structure of having been just pollinated

Ippolita Creates Art & Jewelry

Ippolita, which is known for their fine silver and gold jewelry, celebrated fashion week with a showcase of art and sculpture, in an exhibit called Reliquary. Giant glass blown sculptures representing containers for precious objects were exhibited in an industrial loft on the Highline Stages.




Each sculpture was between three and 12 feet high and was accompanied by video and light installations. Remarkable handiwork clearly went into each creation that was made over a multilayer period by glass and steel artists.

The exhibit offered a sense of the artistic sentiment and influence Ippolita brings to all of her work. The pieces reflected Ippolita’s highly modern and sculptural style. The Reliquary event will undoubtedly inspire shoppers to take a look at Ippolita's latest collection and appreciate the artist behind the brand. The designer's sterling silver friendship bracelet is being sold at the exhibit for $125 and feels like a true work of art in the setting of an art instillation .

Fashion Week: Joy Cioci

This season, Joy Cioci seems to be channeling the optimism of spring with the tradition of the Kentucky Derby. Lots of delicate ruffles, oversized floppy hats and gossamer chiffons complimented the neon palate. The extremes of delicate fabrics layered against a bright colors kept the collection seem free and adventurous.



Standout trend: Layered ruffles and casual draping relaxed the collection so that it was modern and not stuffy.

How to get the look: Use bright orange-reds on the lips and cheeks and naturals or nudes on the eyes. Skip the eyeliner and finish with a light layer of mascara. Set the hair in large rollers to get a nice light wave. Remember not to fuss with the curls because it will quickly turn your waves into a frizz craze.

Who makes it work: The proper Southern belle who isn't too shy to show her bright side with color. Perhaps, we should call it Hilly gone wild.

Fashion Week: Nicole Miller

Way back when, Nicole Miller used to be known for her funky patterned prints. For spring 2012, Nicole dug into her archives and rehashed some of those old designs and updated them with a modern twist. Below you will see a Nicole Miller print bag from the 90s in contrasted with a print shown on the runway today. Now, I'm regretting giving away the matching shoes...



Standout Trend: Bold and bright prints. Architectural designs accented by slashes of bright color.

How to get the look: When wearing bold or bight colors it's best to keep your skin and hair looking natural and light. Use neutral colors on your lips and eyes. To get the natural look for your hair, after showering, comb hair thoroughly and blow-dry it about 75%. Then, rub a bit of gel in your palms. Work the gel into your hair and finish drying. Once your done add a bit of serum for extra shine.

Who makes it work: A bad girl with a love of 90s florescent

Fashion Week: Rebecca Taylor

The vibe at Rebecca Taylor was edgy and ethereal with floral dresses, sheer tops, and lots of sparkle. Sequined tanks and sweaters paired with knee length skirts and loose fit trousers streamed the runway in blues, yellows, and neutrals. Let's not forget those metallic hoodies; an ideal piece for April showers.



Standout Trend: Color blocked shoes with leopard heels to spice up your feminine side.

How to get the look: Slicked back hair and clean faced makeup is an ideal warm weather style; once the hair is done, it stays out of your face and the makeup is minimal. After you get out of the shower, comb hair thoroughly and blow dry it about 75%. Then, rub some gel in your palms and slick back your hair behind your ears from the front to the ends. Comb it back with a fine tooth comb and spray in place. For a daring night look, wear a dark gray or blue shadow all the way up to the brows with nude lipstick and no mascara. Effortless runway drama made easy.

Who makes it work: The urban girl, with a soft, classic style who only dares to go so far as mixing materials. Sure, she'll wear a backless top, but only if it's beige.

Fashion Week: Costello Tagliapietra

The look at Costello gave a colorful twist to the classic working girl wardrobe with vibrant prints and classic neutrals. Printed dresses with expert draping and tailored detail made for a simple, sophisticated collection. Who says DVF is the only designer who rocks the wrap dress?

 

Standout trend: A rich emerald green evening dress with long sleeves and a sliver of exposed back.

How to get the look: The messy pinned back low bun takes a lot of product and an unbelievable amount of bobby pins, but it'll last through an entire evening. It's easiest with unwashed hair and extra-hold spray. Loosely pull hair back and start pinning with large bobby pins one piece at a time until it's all pulled up and spray, spray, spray. Copper eyeshadow has been seen all over runways this season and Costello took it to an extreme with matching colored lips and bold bronzed cheeks. We say stick to one or the other for a unexpectedly fresh pop of color.

Who makes it work: The successful career woman who wears her YSL pumps all day and doesn't have he time to change before drinks and dinner at Le Cirque.

Joie Labor Day Sale

The opening of Joie on Madison was one of the most popular boutique openings of the year. In a neighborhood that is filled with predominantly preppy stores-- Crew Cuts, Brooks Brothers and Jack Rogers-- Joie was a breath of fresh air.

FNO Madison Avenue Spy Fashion Hunt Prizes

The unofficial end of summer is behind us, which means unofficial start of Fashion Week is just ahead. Yes, that is the fabulous Fashion's Night Out. This year, we are staking out the world's most fashionable avenue--Madison Avenue.

On Thursday, September 8, we are hosting an incredible Twitter “Fashion Hunt” on Madison Avenue that is sponsored by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District. Shoppers can collect dozens of amazing prizes, like a wallet from Bally, not-yet-released lipsticks from Dolce & Gabbana, an Agnes b. tote and a La Perla baby doll.

All you need to do is select three participating retailers and tweet a photo of the designated item to @MadisonAveSpy. (Fashion Hunt items will be posted later this week.) Randomly selected participants who complete their three tasks will be directed to a secret Madison Avenue location where they will meet at 9:00pm to toast their success and receive their prize. Barneys Warehouse Sale

The legendary Barney's warehouse sale is well under way and veteran warehouse shoppers know this is the best time to plan your shopping trip. The sale started with the original Barney's markdown plus a modest additional 25% off. This discount increases incrementally until the last day. In addition, the sale continues to receive new merchandise from Barneys locations all over the country like LA and Dallas.

Unlike years past all the women's ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories and homegoods are on the same floor. In the shoe department you will find loads of cute Lanvin heels between $300 and $449, Givenchy woven heeled booties for $299 and a fair selections of Manolos that cost about $300. Alaia booties are also in the mix, although we spotted no Chanel or Louboutins.



The contemporary racks are completely disorganized and the designer racks are not much better. Standout leather pieces by The Row included a buttery soft leather skirt and a black suede bustier dress for $559. A Narcisco Rodriguez gray crepe sheath dress with sexy back detailing also rings up at $559. Lots of dresses dominated the racks with frequent Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler and Balenciaga sightings. A Marni linen dress with polka dots is $519 while a Derek Lam silk blouse is $439.

The accessories department was plentiful, with tons of Alexander Wang square purses in black and white stingray and patent leather, priced from $395 to $450. We also spotted a gray shearling Nina Ricci hobo for $559. If you need to replace your beach bag, now is the time with a variety of straw totes from $39 to $69. The homegoods section is rather disappointing as usual, even though it is discounted at 40% already. If you don't mind paying for dry cleaning or to have a zipper fixed, the imperfects rack is now 50%.

With only an additional 25% off it may be wise to wait until the next price cut at 40% to make your purchase. We suggest checking back in after this weekend for the best prices.
