The It-it: Dior and Anselm Reyle

Usually our It-it subject is more notable for their wait lists than their overstock. In the case of Dior's collaboration with German artist, Anselem Reyle, our attention was gained by how much inventory seems to be left as the limited-time collection comes to an end Friday.

It's obvious that Dior invested a lot into this colorful collaboration. There coordinating are bags, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, scarves, books and coordinating nail polishes. At launch time we were told that most bag styles would sell out before they made it to store shelves. However, earlier this week it appeared as if all items were still in stock.

Many people would feel turned off to the collection because of all the excess inventory. We translate this situation into pure excitement. After all, who wants to see  their limited-run neon-colored tote on the arm of five other women at the Monte-Carlo Beach Club this summer? Perhaps, we may even be able to pick up an extra piece at an outlet at a later date. That would surly translate into a winning collaboration, for us, at least.

Dior x Anselm Reyle Collection
Medium camo tote $1900, Lady Dior $4500
Ends Friday (or so we were told)

Discounted Fur Finds

By ManhattanMataHari

With the unseasonably warm and practically nonexistent winter, we forecasted stores would be holding a surplus of fur inventory. While Bergdorf Goodman's fur sale ended in February, a managers approval can still be granted to allow for hefty discounts.

Bloomingdale's
Maximilian is fully stocked with a wide selection of furs. Discounts currently range from 30% to 75% off on everything in the salon. The 30% to 40% discount includes, Zac Posen, Sonia Rykiel, Dennis Basso, Michael Kors and Carmen Marc Valvo. These marquee names sets Bloomingdale's apart as the go-to place for designer furs. It was the house brand of furs that really caught our eye. The variations of cream, taupe and beige are all quite lovely. Fur shoppers should remember that this week's Bloomies sale event can add an extra 15% to 20% savings to the sales price.
Andrew: 212 705-3335

Macy's
Macy’s Fur Vault is offering shoppers 40% to 60% off original prices. The deal doesn't end there. As part of Macy's charity coat drive, customers can trade in an old coat and get an additional 30% off on top of the sales price. The shopping incentive ends Sunday but it shouldn't be too hard to find something you like. Macy's carries more than 1,300 furs in stock you have multiple styles in mink, sable, chinchilla, lynx, beaver, and raccoon. With prices this attractive it might be worth purchasing a coat larger than your size and having it restyled to your taste.
Madeline: 212 494-1227

Saks Fifth Avenue
The markdowns are a modest 50% at Saks,  but we recently received an offer in the mail for 25% off your fur with a trade-in, 20% off your restyling order and 30% off a made to measure order. The great customer service at Saks is always a lure and beats dealing with the shady fur dealers in Chelsea.

Ivanka Trump Debuts at Lord & Taylor

By ManhattanMataHari

We have always admired Ivanka Trump’s classic and sophisticated sense of style, especially when contrasted against the likes of other heiress-turned entrepreneurs. Our pure sense of curiosity pulled us to Lord & Taylor to check out the debut of her ready-to-wear collection.

Despite the fact that Lord & Taylor leans to a more mature crowed, we were hoping that this clothing line would breath a bit of sophisticated youth into the 185-year-old department store. Unfortunately, the collection was a bit more matronly than we would have hoped and contained too many prints to be considered a must-have classic.

Nonetheless there were a several worthy items. Our favorite picks are the pink pleated cotton Audrina skirt ($145), the double-layered Betta dress ($155) and Trump’s structured take on the classic black pencil skirt ($125). Ivanka’s traditional trench coats and colorful safari-style dresses are spring and summer staples.

Ivanka’s collection is priced quite reasonably and ranges from $50 to $225. With Lord & Taylor’s frequent sales and promotions, this means you can look forward to snagging most items for 20% to 50% less during sales time. Unlike many other celebrity clothing lines, Ivanka’s collection seems to reflect her signature aesthetic. We can easily see pieces fitting into her busy lifestyle and we can likely use a few items too.

Those who share or curiosity can meet Ivanka in person and receive a signed sketch with any Ivanka Trump purchase at tonight’s L&T launch event. Best of all 10% of the launch’s proceeds will benefit the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Campaign.

KamaliKulture Now Available

Norma Kamali's much awaited KamaliKulture is officially available. The current lineup features several variations of black dresses and suit styles. Later this spring, the line will expand to swim suits and eye-glasses . The best part of Kamali Kulture is that everything in the collection is under $100!

Usually we aren't big fans of diffusion lines -- a designer's lower price point collection-- but the clothes here are well worth the value and are quite stylish. Right now most of the online collection is offered in black and red but many more patterns and colors will soon be available.

While looking through the cloths, we had a long fashion chat with Norma. She says she was inspired to create a collection that had timeless style and could be enjoyed by everywoman. "I wanted to offer a valued purchase that women were not afraid to use. Everything is durable, wearable and affordable," Norma says.

KamaliKulture hits every mark. Each item is classic and true Kamali style, from the "All in One Dress" to the pencil skirt. Norma explained  age and experience has made her increasingly appreciate maintaining a distinct personal style over following trends. Betraying your personal style illustrates lack of self and lack of personality, the designer says. "Nobody is going to benefit from wearing neon," she adds.

In the coming weeks, exclusive items from KamaliKulture will be sold on Amazon.com and Zappos.com. We've already started picking the foundation of what will be our summer wardrobe and know that we will be coming back for a lot more. (Shopping Hint: The KamaliKulture sunglasses are basically the same as the collection sunglasses. Get them while they are hot... or before it gets too hot.)

Bloomies Friends & Family

You know markdown season isn't too far away when Bloomingdales starts their friends and family sale. This season, the early spring shopping incentive will begin Wednesday, March 28th and run through Sunday, April 1. The discount is 20% but many luxury brands and cosmetics are excluded.

Online shoppers can use the BFRIENDS12 or FRIENDS12 at checkout. Presale is already underway in stores.

All of the high-end shoe and handbag designers are excluded. We suggest sticking to the fourth floor designer women's brands were only Agent Provocateur, Moncler, Chanel, Ralph Lauren Collection and Marc Jacobs Collection are excluded.

Saks F&F usually towards the end of April and we expect the discount to be 20% off merchandise and 10% off cosmetics. High end shoes and handbags are always excluded at Saks too.

The It-it: L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray

By ManhattanMataHari

We always wondered how the top hair stylists got those perfect Gisele Bundchen curls and waves. Well, now we have their best-kept beauty secret: L’Oreal Paris’ Elnett Hairspray.  For years beauty editors traveling to Europe, would famously load their suitcases with cans to bring their hoard back stateside. Now it's available in most drugstores in the US and the days of crunchy curls and untouchably styled hair are gone.

The Elnett hairspray is set apart by its diffused weightless mist that can easily be brushed out, yet it still preserves a strong hold throughout the entire day. It will make your locks look shiny and healthy, and it is also humidity resistant to withstand even the muggiest Manhattan summer day.

While at $16 a pop it is more expensive than Aquanet but it will make a world of difference to your styling.  Our only complaint is that the powdery, old lady scent that clashed with our perfume. Luckily, Elnett now has an unscented version, as well as a formula for color-treated hair with a UV filter.

While we are not delusional enough to think we will ever be as hot as a Victoria’s Secret model but at least now we have the ability to get their sexy bombshell hair. Next week we will be covering how to get super-model legs. TBC...

$2.3 Million Pink Diamond at Costco

Who said Costco is only good for over sized quantities of food and laundry detergent? Not us! Manhattan Costco shoppers have become accustomed to nicely discounted Chanel bags and the all gold Cartier Ballon Bleu, which is still looking for a good home.

Despite our high Costco expectations, we were a bit thrown by the $2.3 million pink diamond on sale at Costco.com. This 18.88ct round brilliant is flawless and has a faint pink tone. The estimated value of this gem is $3.3 million. Who knew Costco could save you $1 million?

Skeptical? So were we. A quick Google search turned up an article in the Jewelry News Network, which appears to speak of the same diamond. The post states that the diamond was up for auction, in Hong Kong, last spring with an estimated value of $3.2 million to $5 million.

Apparently, this rock was mined from the renowned Golconda mines. Other famous diamonds from this south-central Indian mind include the Darya-e Nur, at 185 carats it's the largest and finest diamond of the crown jewels of Iran. Other well-known rocks believed to come from this mine are the Hope, Wittelsbach and Regent.

The lucky owner, of course, gets to name their new diamond. Don't you think The Lila Delilah has a nice ring to it?

Splendid and Ella Moss Private Sale

Although we don't speak about it often, comfortable clothing are a Sunday. Spending lots of money for them, however, is a must not. Right now, Ella Moss and Splendid are hosting a private sale online sale where most everything is reduced 50% off.

Cloths from a variety of seasons are included in the promotion. We are especially fond of the children's collections of both brands. The cloths are soft and functional, which is even perfect for babies.

While browsing we found a Splendid girl's romper for $24 from $55 and a women's tee for $34 from $72. Over on the Ella Moss side there is a delightful baby's bloomer set for $29 from $64 and women's a simple maxi dress for $99 from $198, which would be perfect for after the beach.

Just take note, all sales are final and no exchanges are allowed. The good thing is that both brands run true to size.

Where to Get DVF x Gap Kids

The Upper East Side was almost completely wiped out just hours after the launch of DVF for Gap Kids, on Thursday. We were able to snag a few key items by hitting the official Gap pop-up store in mid-town. Even there, the inventory was running low and sales people estimated the merchandise would not last past  Friday afternoon.

Even if you procrastinated, you still may be in luck. First we suggest checking online. There are still lots of girls wrap dresses and rompers, toddler dresses and tees and baby bodysuits.

If you're looking for more popular items, like the blazer with DVF patches, we suggest looking outside the boundaries of Manhattan. At Short Hills Mall, in NJ, there was a consolidation of area merchandise that included the aforementioned blazer in a variety of sizes and the highly popular DVF printed baby bodysuit.

Alternatively, there's always the option of stalking the store for returns. The East 85th Street Gap, only received two items in each size for the launch. By Thursday afternoon, the store was practically void of all merchandise. Returns started to trickle in this weekend and there will be many more once customers receive their Internet orders. After all, kids can be more picky than their parent's when it comes to shopping.

The IT-it: Solange Hotlips Rings

Growing up in the 80s, I had my own phone line that went directly to my bedroom. My room was the only place the phone rang and I was the only person who answered. My cherry-red hotlips phone represented the early stages of freedom and was naturally focal point of my life.

I think the memory of my phone has sparked an especially strong connection to Solange's hotlips. These silver and enamel rings come in a rainbow of colors and are sure to be a great conversation point. Obviously, I'm partial to the red but the pink looks great with a matching girly manicure. Solange also produces the lips for men in the form of cufflinks.

The silver and enamel rings photographed above retail for $1500 and an 18k yellow gold version is about $3245.

The RealReal Mad-Spy Deal

All this warm weather has us fishing for spring-like clothing. While searching our closets for weather-appropriate wears, we couldn’t help ourselves from noticing how much of our belongings go unused.

It’s been several years since we’ve rocked that red Chanel bag and that Hermes duffel hasn’t seen the light of day for almost a decade. Prada shoes from 2006 have been worn exactly twice and we never should have purchased that Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress in size tiny.

Seems like the ideal time to arouse that organizing hormone and cash in unused fashion into Summer 2012’s best purchase. Our first call is always The RealReal. The online luxury designer consignment store offers more than any other outlet we can find. The RealReal consignors earn 60% of the sale price. Then when you reach sales of $1,500 per year, your rate increases to 70% for the remainder of that calendar year. Try topping that!

For the next 30 days, Madison Avenue Spy readers will get a $50 site credit when they consign 10 or more items and mention Madison50. If you need some guidance, don’t worry. The RealReal offers white glove service and will personally pick up items from the New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. So round up your Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Chanel, Prada and Gucci. Jimmy Choo at DSW

By ManhattanMataHari

With the warm weather rapidly approaching, replacing our favorite worn out wedge sandals from last spring is a top shopping priority. We stopped by the DSW in Union Square to see what designer items were in stock, at a discount of course. Head straight to the back clearance racks where with a bit of patience you can find spring and summer footwear discounted 30% to 40%, while boots and pumps are discounted up to 70%.

Fans of Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Ralph Lauren purple label, Badgley Mischka and Giuseppe Zanotti will fare best. However, our favorite finds for the day were a couple lovely pairs of patent Jimmy Choo sandals, both now $420.

Exotic skin Sergio Rossi pumps and Giuseppe Zanotti nude patent slingbacks are both marked down to $280 with a 30% cut. The best deals were on Stuart Weitzman and Ralph Lauren purple label shoes, both marked down 70% off. A pair of Weitzman orange snakeskin espadrille wedges are now a mere $39 while purple label suede loafer pumps are now $180 from $600.

We forecast that a bother markdown is still a few weeks away. Even though the best clearance merchandise can be found in stores, online shoppers won't regret clicking around in the DSW luxury section. In the clearance section we found $99 Gucci flip-flops and $99 gold Gucci slides.

Getting Marni x H&M

It was just four days ago that the Marni collection for H&M launched to much fanfare. As expected, customers waited throughout the night to be the first to get their hands on the low-priced designer goods.

Many "hoarders" shopped the collection in hopes of turning a profit on eBay. The flipping of collar merchandise usually pays off. For instance, with this collection a $19 sequined collar already sold on eBay for $472, a spotted black coat that was $129 sold for $360 and a $129 maxi dress was given to the highest bidder for $355.

If you're a Marni fan, you can trust that there's still time score some lucky finds. The H&M return policy requires that all collaboration merchandise be returned within 10 days of purchase. So if you're looking to take home a little Marni for yourself, you may want to hover around the return counter. For those keeping count, Sunday, March 18th is exactly ten days from the Marni launch.

While spying the return counter of our local H&M today, we found a Marni print tote bag, a print skirt with a matching top, several pairs of shoes and the iconic brown leather front shift top. A floor manager confirmed that the H&M 10-day return policy translates to a quick boomerang effect. He predicts that the deluge of returned merchandise will be brought back to the store over the weekend.

For those still skeptical, just imagine that we found a pair of H&M/Versace shoes today. They were in perfect condition and reduced to just $20 from a start price of $69. This is just one of the many reasons why you should avoid the "eBay premium."

Mackage Sample Sale

We always suggest stocking up on a hot item when it's least needed. This season's unseasonably warm weather left lots of excess winter coat inventory, which means it's the perfect time to shop for next winter.

The upcoming Mackage sample sale, which starts Thursday, is prime for the picking. This annual event is not usually very remarkable but this time around we have a hunch that there will be lots of great merchandise from which to choose.

We are told that the discount will range from 30% to 50% off and include both the men's and women's collections. At the last winter sale a wool coat with leather detailed pockets was $260 from $590 and double-breasted coat with patch pockets and leather detail was $298 from $595. This season, we would also expect several puffer styles.

The It-it: The Mini Bag

Our unseasonably warm weather could easily be a cruel pre-April fools joke. Nonetheless, we can't help wanting to shed winter bulk. The first item that needs to lighten up is our handbag.

We are really enjoying the high fashion take on the mini-bag.  Below we have a Celine Nano Luggage Tote, a Chanel Wallet on a Chain, a bright pink Prada Mini, a small Chloe Sally, Proenza Schouler's small PS11 and Hermes small Constance bag. Most styles double as cross-body versions of larger iconic purses.

If you're worried about how to downsize from your over sized handbag we suggest taking it down to the bare minimum and working up. After all, what more do you need than a lipstick, keys, phone and a credit card?mini bags

5 Designer Collabs to Watch

It seems as if a new designer collaboration is announced almost every day. This month, in particular seems to be popular for designer partnerships. We've counted five worthy designer collaborations just in the month of March. Of course, many more will bloom as spring approaches but here are just a few worthy mash-ups to start your early season shopping.

Marni for H&M-- March 8
This season's biggest collab is most definitely Marni & H&M. The collection is already available to view online here and we are already betting the $149 leather front sweater, the $99 fitted silk dress and the $20 plastic bracelets are going to be a big hit with the Madison Avenue crowed. We have a feeling that a majority of the most coveted pieces will be grabbed by the resellers. Good thing the Marni boutique is not too far.

DVF for Gap Kids-- March 15
It's never too early to teach your kids to marry well and then conquer the world. Diane von Furstenberg is offering a kick-start to the facts of life so your tots can at least look the part. DVF's empowering prints and effortless style, including her famous wrap dresses, will be available to the pint-sized set online and at Gap stores everywhere. Mini-wrap dresses will retail for $68 but you can always count on a Gap markdowns for extra value. That's what we call a rapper's delight.

UU Uniqlo Undercover--March 16
While we've just started to explore Uniqlo, we've always felt that the Japanese superstore was missing a huge market without a children's department. In less than two weeks that hole will be filled amid a collection designed to fill the needs of the entire family. Undercover designer Jun Takahashi has collaborated with the mega-fashion emporium to deliver a style that is "family avant-garde." The collection will include items for men, women, kids and babies ranging in price from $10 to $100. Now, we just hope that Uniqlo will start to produce those kitchy tees for kids too.

DKNY for Bauble Bar--March 1
We love when a well known brand introduces us to a new place to shop. This is exactly the case with DKNY's collection for Bauble Bar. The online boutique offers fashion forward jewelry at fashionably reasonable prices. This month, Bauble Bar teamed up with DKNY to create a collection that is stylish but playful. Prices range from $92 for adorable poppy resin earrings to $320 for a multi-textured enamel and chain necklace. We hate that you have to sign up to view the goods but in this case we say the browse might be worth your email address.

Kanye West x Giuseppe Zanotti @ Colette--March 1
If DVF can make wrap dresses for kids why can't Kanye West rap women's feet into Zanotti shoes? In this mash-up there's no singing but the result is lyrical. The knit stilettos are a knock-out but cost about $5,800. (No, that's not a typo.) The shoes are made of calf leather and adorned with embroidered pearls. Gals on a "budget" might be relieved to find a scaled back version for about $780. Both styles are available at Colette's online store.

The It-it: Barry’s Boot Camp

By ManhattanMataHari

With springtime here and swimsuit season around the corner, we need to lose our winter insulation and tone up, stat. Luckily, increasingly popular Barry’s Bootcamp opened their Manhattan outpost in Chelsea, last June. When Upper East Side driver-driven Escalades start migrating to alternative Manhattan locations for a workout, you know something is going on. We had to check it out ourselves.

While certainly not for the fitness novice, Barry’s Bootcamp is the perfect way to kick your exercise routine up a notch and really watch the pounds melt off. For $32 (or less with their package deals) you get multiple class options, like full body workouts, routines that targeting specific problem-areas, cardio, toning, and strength training. Just make sure you don’t need to climb any stairs after taking the famous “Butt & Legs” class. The result is not a pretty picture.

Travel lightly or leave your belongings in your car because the lockers are small and don’t fit more than a large bag. On the positive side, you can feel comfortable taking a shower at Barry’s as the locker room accommodations are quite pleasant and maintained very well. Bonus points are given for the Malin + Goetz bath products.
