Norma Kamali Spring Sale

Friends have be asking about updating their summer wardrobe and my best advice is to check out Norma Kamali's KamaliKulture line. It's relatively inexpensive and unfussy, which is the perfect combination for summer in and out of the city.

Those interested in heeding my words, should absolutely go to the Kamali boutique on Tuesday, May 1 between 5:30 and 8:30pm. The designer is hosting a huge sale where all KamaliKulture items will be 25% off when you purchase $100 or more.

In addition, the boutique's third floor will be stocked with discontinued styles, colors and one of a kind samples of Norma Kamali Collection. Prices will range from $100 to $200. For instance, the Goddess Dress, worn by SJP in SATC II, will be $198 from $550, a Gypsy dress will be $98 from $385 and the wrap and tie swimsuit will be $98 from $195.

The It-it: Elsa Schiaparelli Jewels

The 2012 Met Ball Costume Institute Gala is only a bit more than a week away and attendees are making their final wardrobe choices. This year, the Costume Institute is honoring Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion.

While the fashion world understands Prada as well as a Diet Coke, Elisa Schiaparelli is much less known. Schiap, as her friend's called her, is the grandmother of former model and actress Marisa Berenson. Her 1930s fashion rival -- everyone needs one-- was Coco Chanel.

The Paris-based designer was best known for her love of surrealism and her collaborations with artists such as Salvador Dali. Schiaparelli was particularly fond of magenta-pink and later became associated with a particular shade that was coined, "Schiaparelli pink."

While her main focus was clothing, we think the best way to independently honor the late designer is through her jewels. Right now, eBay currently has 43 Schiaparelli auctions and prices over the last month seem to be inching up. We expect these prices to continue to rise as the Met Ball nears and the public attends the fashion exhibit.

Our favorite jewelry items are those that contain the designer's signature pink stones or "watermelon tourmalines," as sellers describe them. This iconic bracelet is $429 on eBay but a similar style can be found on 1stDibs for $350. On Ruby Lane we found the watermelon bracelet along with matching earrings for $500 and here are the earrings alone for just $88.

Baccarat Annual Sale

Sipping Dom Perignon on a festive occasion maybe nice but there is only one way to make that yummy bubbly taste a bit better. The flavor enhancer we have in mind isn't in the beverage but in the accessories, of course. There is something about a red Baccarat Vega Flutissimo champagne flute that escalates champagne flavor and the festivities.

At $160 a glass, or almost $2000 for 12, it might make more sense to buy another case of champagne. After all, who has a party with just 12 people? It's always our philosophy to not make budget choices unless it's absolutely necessary and a good sale is always a fantastic workaround.

For two days, Baccarat will be discounting their delectable items up to 80% off. The only catch is that you have to drive to the brand's warehouse in New Jersey. But think of how many glasses you could buy if they ere just $32 a pop! In addition to barware, the sale will include vases, decorative pieces and a large selection of Baccarat jewelry. We think discounts like that are reason enough to throw a party!

Baccarat Sample Sale
Friday, April 27 to Saturday, April 28

DKNY 40% Off

DKNY is hosting a spring sale where select merchandise will be discounted 40% off. The sale  starts Thursday, April 26th and runs through Sunday, April 29th. Online shoppers should use the DKNY.com/VIP web address and use the code VIP40 at checkout.

We especially love the spaghetti strap stripped sundress that is already on sale from $475 to $332. A sleeveless wrap shirt ($225) is perfect for summer in the city and will also work well with shorts for summer at the beach. A DKNY light-weight cozy is a must for summer for everyone ($145).n Remember, the sale doesn't start until tomorrow but it's never too early to start plotting your strategy.

Mother's Day Gift Idea

Would you believe that May is only a week away? The years fly by so quickly. Before you know it, another one is over. Wouldn't it be nice to freeze time and share the moment with the woman you love most? Who is that? Mom, of course.

Yes, Mother's day is May 13th and you need to start thinking about how to show your appreciation. We couldn't think of a more wonderful gift than capturing a moment that she will keep forever.

PhotoOp, NY's premier photo studio, is offering customers a free photo shoot when you schedule a session between now and May 18. Think of it, you can gather the kids, the grand-kids and all the cousins for a session for the perfect Mother's Day gift. Then, to top it all off, you can schedule a second free session with mom, grandma and all the aunts. Expecting a baby? Capture your baby bump now and use your free photo shoot when your baby is born. That's all for the price of one shoot.

The second sitting is valid until the end of the year, so there's no pressure. Now, if we could only figure out a way to freeze time on our face. Oh yeah, that's Botox.

Inside the Jil Sander VIP Preview

By ManhattanMataHari

The Jil Sander sample sale doesn't officially start until tomorrow but we couldn't wait another day and decided to head straight into the "VIP preview sale"--whatever that means.

After the mandatory coat and bag check we headed towards the ready-to-wear section, which was all reduced 85% off retail. Our spring fervor made the heavy wools from the fall and winter collection less desirable but we were thrilled by the bright colored clothing from this season's line. We just wish there was more of it.

Our top picks included the minimalist tailored wool sheath dresses for an unbeatable $157. On the table in the middle of the room, which was stocked with mostly menswear, we found lovely lightweight silk and cashmere blend sweaters for just $127. If you are looking to stock up on office basics, you will not be disappointed. Crisp white button down blouses are now a mere $51 and there are also lots of black suit separates. Before you leave, be sure to check out the outerwear selection. Quilted down jackets with fur trimmed hoods are now marked down to $270. Bags and accessories are discounted 80%. Shoes are 85% off retail but we weren't impressed with either selection.

While the sale is promoted as "invite-only," even the doorkeeper, with the VIP list acknowledged that he wouldn't be turning people away. The wait on Tuesday, however, which is the first “public” day of the sale, will be quite hectic. Expect a long wait but the sale is definitely worth the trip downtown. Historically there aren’t too many headaches if you go on the second day of the sale.

Madison Avenue Watch Week

Madison Avenue is loved by shoppers all over the world because of its fine boutiques and unique offerings. Most people, however, don't realize that Madison Avenue is the largest fine watch marketplace in North America. What better way to celebrate the neighborhood's haute horology than dedicating an entire week to watches?

The 2nd annual Madison Avenue Watch Week will take place from April 28 to May 4. Watch enthusiasts can preview the newest and most exceptional timepieces at a variety of events and expert watchmaker discussions.

This week, we got a preview of some of the dazzling timepieces that will be on display during Watch Week. Our favorites include, the de Grisogono Otturatore, which has a rotating dial featuring four functions. The Buccellati Eratochron is strikingly beautiful and incorporates the brand's iconic delicate design. With over 16 carats of diamonds the Asprey Daisy WG Pave MOP dazzles even the most jaded customer. The Graff GryoGraff is limited to just ten pieces and includes, a 48mm hand-wound movement with hours, minutes and power reserve indicator as well as a double axis tourbillon and a three-dimensional moon phase. Now, that's a watch worth watching!

The festivities kick-off on Saturday, April 28, and everyone is invited to visit the Gallery of Watches tent on Madison at 64th Street. Visitors will have an opportunity to look at a photography show of the newest watches and register for invitations to the boutique receptions. You can view the full calendar of Watch Week events at MadisonAvenueWatchWeek.com. In addition, you can also request invitations to private consultations and viewings by submitting a request here.

The It-it: Nasty Gal

Prom season is just about to get started and we couldn't help ourselves from wondering where the younger generation is shopping. Sure there are some Upper East Side teens that wear the same designers to the prom as their mothers' wear to the Met Ball. More more typical teens, however, opt for the trendy Nasty Girl website.

Despite the porn sounding name, Nasty Gal specializes in new and vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. The site's fashion forward ecstatic and moderate price point make it an all time favorite with the gals from Trinity, Chapin and Horace Mann. Most items on the site are under $100.

Nasty Gal's look is consistently styled to mirror a blogger's street scene. We are told that prep-school gals are buying into this look by the box-load and pairing the outfits with higher-end accessories. An Hermes clic-clac bracelet or collier de chien cuff are the most popular punctuations to these street tend cloths.

As for prom, moms are happy that their daughters are as satisfied with a $98 Nasty Gal dress as they are with a more elaborate Oscar gown. It's the more "nasty gal" crop tanks that worry the parantals.

Hershleifer's Discount Deal

Hershleifer's, which is a beautiful boutique located in the Americana Manhasset mall on, Long Iiiii-sland, offers some of the finest brands available. The store carries Chanel, Celine, Balenciaga, Alia, Tom Ford and the list goes on and on.

Lets put it this way, Hershleifer's is the closest you're going to get to Bergdorf Goodman when you're shopping in the tri-state area. The best part about Herschleifer's is their periodic shopping incentives. For instance, through the weekend the store will give you a percentage off your bill if you spend over a certain amount.

The breakdown goes like this:
Spend $500-$999 receive 10% off
$1000-$2499 receive 15% off
$2500+ receive 20% off

Although the discount may not be large, it's much better than a department store gift card incentive that quickly express or friend's and family that excludes the most popular brands. The only exclusions that exist here are Chanel, Louboutin and fine jewelry. We can live with that, right?

DSW Fully Stocked with Gucci

By ManhattanMataHari

Gucci fans will be delighted to learn that the DSW in Union Square has received a large shipment of Gucci shoes. DSW is promoting the discount as 40% off but we calculate a much larger bite off the retail price for some styles.

Take notice, Gucci has updated their signature horse bit hardware and logo on their current style shoes. The DSW selection is nicely discounted but reflect the old styling. We'll call it retro Gucci. At least DSW is offering a large variety of styles and a full range of sizes.

Die-hard Gucci fans can snatch a pair of monogram peep-toes for $270 (retail $495, similar style minus monogram). Those looking to play with color can choose from a Crayola assortment of colors, which is the perfect to experiment this season’s color trend.

Flats and pumps are priced at $299. Current versions retail range from $400 to almost $600. Summer loafers, in a rainbow of colors, are $230 from a retail price of almost $600. These shoes are a great alternative to popular boat shoes, although be sure to skip the socks. Basic colorful leather flip-flops with Gucci hardware detailing are a bit more pricey at $150 from $185.

Keep in mind that these styles are a bit old but DSW is also known for their quick markdowns. We wouldn't give it more than six weeks until most of the stock is blown out at $199. Also, be on the look out for coupons and additional promotions. DSW is very generous with their loyal customers. You can browse a sampling of the selection and prices online here.

European Showroom Sale, for Kids!

C&C Childrenswear, which carries popular brands like ADD Down, Aletta, Eddie Pen, Loredana, Imps & Elfs, andVal & Max, is hosting a sale where prices will be under wholesale. The sale begins Monday and runs all week.

Shoppers will find a variety of merchandise including winter 2012 samples (if you can think that far ahead) and summer 2012 stock. Shoppers will find something for everyone in the family, stating at newborn and going through teens. We even spotted coordinating Eddie Pen separates that are perfect for adults.

At the last sale, we took home a haul that included, a Val & Max dress $40 (retail over $300), an ADD Down jacket for $125 (retail $288), pajama sets for $27 (retail $90) and a baby Imps & Elfs baby set was $35 from a retail price of about $80. The sale runs all week but there is no restocking. We suggest trying to attend Monday or Tuesday for the best selection.

The It-it: Hermes Passe-Guide

The Hermes Passe-Guide was designed by Henry d’Origny and introduced in 1975. This striking bag hasn't been seen in a retail store in many decades but is being reissued into the Hermes family this Spring.

The Passe-Guide is named for its clasp, which is modeled from the ring at the front of Roman chariots that kept the reins of the carriage in place. The heavy side hardware distinguishes this bag from most other Hermes bags. We love the smooth "Box" skin that give the bag a vintage. We like to think of the style as modern-vintage.

Before you dedicate your heart to this bag, be forwarned that it's not easy to obtain and spotting it on the shoulder of another women is about as heartwrenching as catching your husband kissing another woman.

3.1 Phillip Lim 20% off

There's nothing like a good e-commerce launch to spark up a good discount. Can't say we were disappointed to hear about 3.1 Philip Lim's new online store.

In honor of the new e-commerce capabilities, 3.1 Philip Lim is offering customers 20% off until April 23rd when using the check out code N31R5WQ67T6. We especially like the Kite two-tone dress and the Lark Tote. Lets be honest, there are few items we don't like.

Lederer’s Moving Sale

By ManhattanMataHari

While many people find designer "inspired" accessories to be tacky, it is indeed possible to make such a purchase and get great quality and value. Personally, we would never support Canal Street knockoffs because of poor quality and questionable manufacturing practices overseas, but Lederer de Paris carries a variety of bags that are handmade with high quality leather.

With retail prices for these loosely inspired bags normally range from $900 to $800. For prices as high as those we would normally save our money for the real deal. However, for the next couple weeks Lederer is hosting a moving sale where everything in the store is 20% to 70% off. A salesperson insisted that she didn't know where the store is moving but that seems quite odd.

Stepping into the store you will immediately see the designer inspired Birkens, 2.55 classics, and intrecciato designs reminiscent of Hermes, Chanel, and Bottega Veneta. Some of these designs are marked down between $299 and $499. Naturally, the Birken-esque bags are still around $600. We generally aren't fans of wannabes but $99 patent and leather woven intrecciato clutches are just too cute to pass up.

While we would pass on most of the handbags, definitely browse Lederer's selection of small leather goods and accessories which are also 20% to 50% off. The quality is fantastic and there is a plentiful selection in a variety of styles and skins. The lovely $99 smooth leather gloves with metal details à la Hermes are absolutely a must-have for fall.

Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

It's only mid-April but news-worthy sample sales are already scheduled. Today, Racked reports that the Jimmy Choo sample sale is returning to the Metropolitan Pavilion after a three year hiatus. This sale may be newsworthy for the discounts but the long line is what really makes headlines.

Lines for the Jimmy Choo sample sale win for longest and most tedious in all of fashion. The line, not only spans the full Avenue of West 18th Street but also wraps up 7th Avenue and along West 19th Street.

Okay, lets talk prices. At the last Choo sale, which took place in 2009, a pair of heels were $250, two pair were $450 and three were $600. Sounds fantastic, right? Think again. We calculate that to be between 65% and 75% off retail. The Jimmy Choo boutique end-of-season discount is 65% off. Some department store markdowns are even more. You do the math: Three hour line-vs-10% savings...

Obviously, we believe it's better to spend the extra 10% and avoid this type of shopping experience, or agony! Alternatively, you can try to get yourself on the press/VIP list that gets you Thursday morning access.

DVF x Gap 30% Off

It's not often that we get swept up with fashion hype. When it came to DVF/Gap collection, however, we admit that we may have taken the bate. Granted, our entire local store was wiped clean of merchandise and the sales people at the Fifth Avenue Gap location insisted that the stock would not be replenished.

Fast forward three weeks and the DVF/Gap collaboration is now discounted 30% off. There is still a lot of merchandise online and stores seem to have sufficient stock along with a steady stream of returns. Our advice is to go for the price adjustment. That $80 blazer is so much cuter when it only cost you $56!

Ralph Lauren 25% Off

We had a hunch that Ralph Lauren was tres cool in Paris but we had no idea just how much the brand had blown up internationally. Who would have known that a grand pony polo was hotter than anything Lanvin?

We are told that those big pony polos on Boulevard St Germain are 150-euro, which is about $200. On Madison Avenue those same polos are "just" $98 and through April 6th you can save 25% on your polo and most everything else at Ralph Lauren.

The "Shop in Style" discount benefits cancer prevention and research through the Pink Pony Fund. The discount is available in stores and online with the code RLGIVE2012. Now you can look as as hot as the coolest Parisian and have money left over to put towards your flight.

Botticelli Boot Sale

By ManhattanMataHari

Botticelli is well known for their luxurious Italian leathers and fine craftsmanship. The store has been a Fifth Avenue icon since opening 1968. Right now, the boutique is hosting a markdown that might have you thinking twice before liberating your toes into sandal season.

The Italian boutique is hosting a boot sale were versions in suede, smooth leather and even over-the-knee styles are plentiful. Discounts range from 30% to 60% off with most retail prices start at about $800. We found the majority of the heeled riding boots to be the under the $300 price range. Be sure to check out the selection of booties as well, with our favorite picks being the tri-colored suede Oxfords for $338.

MadSpy readers can now arrange an additional 10% off by mentioning the site. Now that’s the kind of name dropping we are never ashamed of.

The sale will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Shoshanna showroom, which is further proof of this sale's worthy status. We also expect this sale to be quite sane to shop as sample season has not yet officially started.

Sephora 15% Off

Just as Spring is starting to bloom Sephora is offering a 15% discount in stores and online. The beauty discount coincides with the launch of a new Sephora.com and runs until April 5.

The new site includes, customized search capabilities, inventory checks of your local Sephora and expert beauty advice. Personally, we have never been fans of Sephora's "insider" tiny samples but we did appreciate the highlighted deals on the new site that include a Dior mascara for $14.50 from $24.50.

Cosmetic discounts like these happen periodically and present a good time to stock up on your favorite items. Sephora's friends and family promotion is usually a 20% discount but friends and family at Lord & Taylor is just 10% off cosmetics.
