Valetino Rockstud 90% Off

Valentino introduced the Rockstud collection as part of their fall 2010 runway show. The fashion world was both shocked and mesmerized, as up to then Valentino had been known for their ladylike collections. Four years later, the style is still going strong and has become a brand icon.
Finding the classic Rockstud style shoes and accessories on sale is not easy but we have the inside track with Amuze. The online, flash sale site, just launched a collection of Rockstud bags and clothing that's all marked up to 90% off.

The site has several bags including, the Rockstud shopper tote that's $725 from $2395. A Rockstud tote version in leopard calf hair is $850 from $2895 and an ornate studded net hobo bag is $950 from $3345.

Beyond the Rockstud bags, the sale includes lots of really great classic Valentino clothing items. This wool dress with lace detailing is ladylike-perfect, especially for $315 from $2200 and you really can't beat this ivory ruffle dress for $350 from $2290. Before you check out to quickly, be sure to take a look at the Valentino puffers, towards the bottom of the page. We may be coming into spring but you'll be hard pressed to find another one link this, that's priced for so little.

Take note, that this discount can be stacked onto already reduced merchandise. For instance, this Rachel Roy leather coat is about $530 from almost $1200 and these Citizens of Humanity wide leg jeans (bell bottoms) come to $120 from almost $200.

The friends and family sale ends online and in stores on April 6th. There's also free shopping on all orders over $150, which shouldn't be hard to reach.

Sample Sale: Vive le Vivier!

It doesn't take a fortune teller to predict that the Roger Vivier sale would be popular but we were surprised to learn that fans stated lining up for the sale 10 hours before it opened. Those who didn't camp out all night prior to the sale opening, found themselves waiting an average four hours to enter the sale.

Don't say that we didn't warn you!

On Sunday afternoon, there was no line to get into the sale. There was no line to check your coat. There was no line to pay either. As a matter of fact, on Sunday, there were more employees working at the sale than people shopping the sale. The best part was that there were still mountains shoes from which to shop.

Almost all the merchandise is reduced 50% to 60% off retail. Basic black pumps with no signature buckle start at $225 and long and ornate boots are priced up to $2000. Most buckle shoes are $300 to $350. A small assortment of little girl's buckle shoes were $200.

Take note, the best selection ranges from size 39 and up. If you're outside of that range, you might have a harder time finding your size in the buckle section but there are still lots of other styles from which to choose.

The handbag section is still fully stocked with a rainbow of colors. There are dozens of great clutches, Miss Vivs and micro Miss Vivs. Prices start at about $525 from a small bag and go up to about $2000 for a more ornate evening clutch. The wallet and accessory section is now very small.

Those who love a fine shoe should absolutely consider "shopping by." It's sad to say, but snagging even a basic Vivier for $225 seems like a steal. The sale runs through Tuesday and we are told there will be no restocking or end-of-sale discounts but we'll keep updated if anything changes. More pictures are after the jump.

Your Hampton Retreat is Ready

Usually our conventional wisdom is the bigger-is-better. (This is especially true for jewelry.) When it comes to second homes, however, we would easily forgo expansive and expensive for manicured and manageable. Truthfully, who wants to worry about managing and staffing a secondary or tertiary home? That is not the definition of relaxing.

If you're looking for the right place to spend a relaxing summer away from the city with your family, then we have the just the home. This beautiful Westhampton retreat is over 3000 sqft, features four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a heated pool with an electric solar pool cover. There's also a hot outdoor shower and a stone patio great for barbecues. The kitchen is a modern delight and boasts a sky light and stainless steel appliances.

One of the highlights of this home is the ideal location. This house just south of Montauk Highway and within walking distance to a Hampton Synagogue. Just down the street is a municipal park with a track, tennis, baseball and basketball courts. The home is just a 10 minute walk to Long Island Railroad and Westhampton town center. The beach is a 15 minute bike ride the beach.

The best part is that this home is in move-in conditional. All you need is a set of keys and we suggest that you not make to many sets if you want to maintain the space as a tranquil retreat!

Nordstorm Spring Sale 70% Off

If you think you're having a hard time with the unseasonably cold weather, just speak to a retailer. This spring is shaping up to be a disaster for stores. We are anticipating discounts to become particularly aggressive. Last week, there were heavy mid-season markdowns at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. This week, Nordstrom is offering shoppers discounts up to 70% off.

While browsing online we found this Barbour Gold Label leather and waxed cotton jacket for about $400 from $1000. A Helmut Lang dress with leather details is $402 from $670 and Michael, Michael Kors gladiator boots are $197 from almost $400.

There isn't a huge selection within Nordstrom's "designer collections" but the "Don't you want me baby" tee from ALC almost seems like a no-brainer when it's priced at $50 from $125.

Tibi Online Sample Sale

We will be the first to say that online sample sales are never as good as the real thing. Nonetheless, Tibi is hosting an online "sample sale" that's not all that bad. Prices are up to 70% off and there are lots of stylish items from which to choose.

We are big fans of Tibi's true sample sale because of the very low prices and the wearability of the collections. As suspected, the online prices aren't as good as the true sample sale but the selection is actually very good. Check out this leather asymmetrical wrap dress that's now $173 from $575. Over here is a stretch velvet blazer for $150 from almost $500. While shopping be sure to check out the shoe selection too. There are a lot of really great styles that are priced at about $150.

Keep in mind, like real sample sales, there are no returns. On the flip side, there are also no lines. Take note, you will get a coupon code for an addition 15% off when you log into the sample sale with your email address.

Statement Jewelry Perfect for Spring

It's hard to dress up in the summer. There is nothing worse than looking over-styled when temperatures start heading near the triple digit. (It's hard to imagine that ever happening again, but it will.) Our favorite way to fashion-up a simple dress or even a white tee is with bold and bright statement jewelry.

When picking out oversized costume jewelry, we suggest keeping it chic and cheap. Save the big bucks on fine jewelry and, like most things, a bit goes a long way.

Check out this Kenneth Jay Lane deco necklace. We love the bright colored stones paired with sparkling crystals and white enamel. It's perfect for a walk on Main Street when paired with flats or a stroll down Madison with pumps or wedges. This large multi-metal and rienstone Janis Savitt necklace is perfect for adding an effortless cool to almost any outfit. We are thinking that this piece is so versatile that it will work with everything from cargo shorts to leather pants.

Be sure to check out the entire eBay Collection of statement jewelry. We've included new and vintage designer jewelry items from  Lulu Frost, YSL, Prada, Versace, Oscar de la Renta and more.

While you're at it, we challenge you to create your own eBay Collection. From now until, March 31, 2014, whenever you create a collection using #ImBornTo in the title, eBay will donate $1 to March of Dimes (up to $25,000 total) and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 eBay shopping spree. Send us links to your collections and we will be sure to inspire readers by spreading the link through Twitter and Facebook.

Presale: Bloomingdales Friends & Family

The spring Bloomingdales friends and family sale will officially begin April 2 and run through April 6. Presale started today in stores. The discount is 20% off but most premier designers and cosmetics are excluded from the promotion.

If you're shopping online you should direct your attention towards this Halston Heritage shirt dress, which is city-to-country summer perfection. We love this Rachel Zoe fit and flare dress($375), which has the most unexpected open back and the Trina Turk rashguards and bikini bottoms ($72 each) are the perfect amount of pattern magic.

Although the friends and family exclusions are extensive, the last sale had a few exceptions. We are hoping that Giuseppe Zanotti and Valentino included in the promotion, as they were last season.

The Best of Armani for 90% Off

Armani may be the most under-appreciated designer in fashion. There, we said it. Looking beyond his iconic suiting, Armani designs with an Italian sensibility. It's the perfect level of chic along with the highest level of quality.

The best part is that you can shop some of Armani's greatest items for 90% off on Amuze. Check out this gorgeous leather shoulder bag. The quality is much better than anything from Saint Laurent and it also hasn't been plastered though out the pages of every fashion magazine. This fashion gem is one of our favorite bag shapes for the season and is on sale on Amuze for $595 from $2295. These high-wasted silk pants are perfectly on trend for the season and are priced at $225 from $1295. (That's even less expensive than the inferior quality offered by J. Crew.) You really can't go wrong with these t-strap pumps for $250 from $650.

The Armani flash sale that runs until April 8. We would really suggest giving Armani a try, especially at 90% off. We are sure you will be pleasantly surprised. Also be sure to check out other ongoing flash sales from Chloe, Valention and Pierre Hardy. Use the code madavespy for free shipping.

Get Your Chanel Polish at Costco

We spend a lot of time talking about how much the price of shoes have gone up, the inflation on designer handbags and even the price hikes of a little black dress. The same is very true for cosmetics.

Did you realize that the retail price of a Chanel nail polish was $19 in 2007. Today, the retail price is $27 and we won't be surprised if it hits $30 very soon. (Sorry, we shouldn't make statements like that.)

We know just the place to buy your Chanel polish if you're roll back to 2007 prices. Costco! Yes, the Harlem Costco has a variety of Chanel polishes for $19. The best part is that the selection includes some very nice colors.

The four colors:
  • Particuliere- one of those interesting Chanel colors that is greyish brown face-on but flashes purple in certain light
  • April- launched in 2012 and is truly a perfect berry color. It's not too pink but is feminine and appropriately bright.
  • Ballerina- the most classic of nude-pink
  • Frenzy- his color quickly sold out when launched and has remained popular ever since. The pigment is a muted gray with notes of lilac.
Although there seems to be a lot of inventory on these nail lacquers, we don't think that they will become a Costco staple. At least you now have something to look forward to when making your next run for birthday cake that feeds 48 and your 15 count of jumbo double-ply paper towel.

Are You Ready for Birkenstock Chic?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there is no draught of ugly shoes in the fashion world. Can you think of any footwear uglier than Uggs? Who decided that clogs were acceptable outside of Amsterdam? Crocs, ahem! The list goes on and on. This season, the fashion set is focusing on Birkenstocks.

Birks have captured the love of fashionistas everywhere. It's up to you to decide if this is a trend you want to walk in but we promise to not pass any judgement. (Well, we can only promise to try.) Top designers such as Celine, Stuart Weitzman, Givenchy, Dior and Isabel Marant all have designed their take on this hippe-dippie shoe. (You can click here to see a full collection of designer Birkenstock-style shoes.)

Putting your Birkenstocks into action is up to you but we've seen the style run the full span of versatile. From sporty, casual to a night-out ensemble, it's up to you to make them work. One suggestion is to style them with clean minimal lines, try them with skinny jeans and a layered top or contrast of the clunky shoe and a feminine dress and a moto jacket. Alternatively, you can always opt out. What do you think?

Cesare Paciotti Sample Sale

Ready to spike your week with some new heels? Cesare Paciotti will be hosting as sample sale starting Wednesday. Savings will be 80% off retail. (Note: It's 80% off not "up to 80% off.) The sale will include a wide assortment of shoes and accessories for men, woman and children.

Since this is one of those special showroom sample sales, you can expect to find lots of true samples from their prior collection. Unfortunatly, that means that a lot of the best of the inventory will be a size 7 but we are sure the sale will also include overstock in an assortment of sizes.

At the last sale, this past summer, we found great wedges for $190 from $635, pink leather pumps are $195 from $650 and men's loafers are $162 from $540. There were also handbags and belts for just $50. We expect there to be a lot more merchandise this time around considering the slow retail environment. Look forward to more updates.

Saint Laurent 85% Off

It's been increasingly difficult to find great prices on Saint Laurent merchandise ever since Hedi Slimane took over. The bi-annual sample sale has been a disaster and even the Hawaii discount was discontinued after we posted about it.
Amuze is one place to shop that has a great selection and consistent low prices. Right now, the site is hosting a flash sale, which includes YSL clothing, shoes and bags. The sale's prices are reduced up to 85% off retail. Be sure to check out this Muse Two, which is discounted to $495 from $1345. Classic black Tibute pumps are just $295 from $795 and a white peplum dress is $350 from $2290.

Have no doubts, all the items on Amuze are authentic. Just be warned that Amuze's deals are addictive. We are hard pressed to find another website with better prices. And get this-- use the code MADAVESPY and you'll save an extra 10% off your purchase.

Gap Friends and Family 40% Off

This is Rebekka Bay's first season as creative director of Gap and she has focused on going back to the company's roots and highlighting basics. Most of the editorial and financial communities are very positive about the direction being charted by the H&M veteran. As a shopper, we aren't convinced.

Sure, we all need great jeans and tees but there's no shortage of places to buy these core items. Those shopping for basics are generally looking for two things: quality and value.

Gap is very good at offering value but over the years the quality has been inconsistent. Jeans stretch out too fast, sweaters lose their shape and tees just don't hold up. When a customer shops at Gap, they know their purchases are unlikely to last past that season.

The other problem is that marketing basics as they were done in the 1980s is not very exciting. Does the above ad make you crave a cozy tee and slouchy jeans? It's just boring. Vanilla. You know, the type without fresh Madagascar vanilla beans. In order to keep shoppers coming back, you need to catch their eye. Where is the buttery leather moto jacket that's also affordable? How about letterman sweaters instead of ill fitting blazers? What about a spring coat that's not a trench?

We think it's great to capture the heritage of Gap but the retail landscape has way too many competitors. Gap can't just depend on basics to entice shoppers. The company needs to continue with offering great value, improve the quality of their merchandise and offer the season's top trends.

For now, you can grab your basics at 40% off using the code SAVE40. The friends and family sale runs through Sunday, March 16. Let us know what you think about the new creative direction in the comment section.

Inspiration: What We Need For Spring

Two days of tepid weather has us beginning to plot our fashion strategy for Summer. Inspiration is everywhere. All we need is a few more days of blue skies and warm weather to put our looks into action.
So, what fashion items are inspiring us while we shop for our summer wardrobe? To start, we are longing for a pastel coat. Pink Chanel seems to be especially perfect this season. Other color options include peach, nude, a light blue gray (think Lanvin blue) and mint green.

We have also fallen in love with Givenchy's floral prints, which are poised to be the most iconic print of the season. The contrast of sweet and dark sets the perfect tone. We also long for an item in vintage Gucci floral print. If you are super into the sweet floral theme, you must check out Dolce & Gabbana's flower sunglasses.

Speaking of prints, Valentino's oversized camo is a huge hit. There so many variations of this print, that we would suggest going with the "look for less"--a non-designer version that will cost you a lot less money. The same advice can be applied to Loree Rodkin's oversized bondage ring. One need not feel compelled to spend $20,000 to enjoy the trend.

Other trends that are catching our attention? City appropriate shorts, dresses with unexpected cutouts, slacks with racing stripes and ethnic jewelry. Do you agree? Share the trends are inspiring your spring wardrobe in the comment section below.

TheOutnet Clearance 85% Off

Although we've been trying, it's hard to find a great retail sale right now. If you're looking to browse large discounts we suggest you track your courser over to TheOutnet. Discounts on clothing, shoes, bags and accessories head upwards to the 85% mark.

Some of our favorite pieces include this gorgeous Antonio Berardi silk coat. The retail price was $5100 and it's now $1000. We also wouldn't mind owning this red Marni cape that is $516 from about $2600. Perhaps all you need to kickstart spring, is a Kenzo print dress that's $213 from $1065? (We just suggest swapping out that strange looking belt.) Alexander Wang mid-high boots are $300 from $1200 and it's hard to resist this Anya Hindmarch bag that's now just $240 from almost $1000.

It seems that a lot of the selection is from the winter 2012 retailing season. Take note, that for many items there is only one size and one unit. That's a warning not to procrastinate. The sale runs through Monday and there are usually extra discounts taken during the last hours. We just wouldn't expect there to be many desirable items left at that point.

Spring Ahead: J. Crew Sale

The clocks have been rolled ahead and the days are officially longer. Warm days can't be too far away-- at least we hope. Nothing seems more appealing than freshening our wardrobe with some fashionable spring staples.

Through Tuesday, J. Crew is offering 25% off women's clouting and accessories in stores and online. (Of course, discounts can't be applied when shopping at 869 Madison. Is that considered a Madison Avenue tax?) We can't get enough floral prints for the coming season and the overblown floral blouse ($398) and shorts outfit ($189) is polished enough for strolling city streets or Main Street. A classic varsity jacket ($290) tops our list of needs for the new season, along with this leather moto jacket ($1200). We also love this jeweled Thomas Mason shirtdress ($498).

Those looking for more wardrobe stapes can should take this opportunity to stock up on our favorite pixie pants ($88) and a very thin cashmere sweater looks always looks perfect with a skirt. We can't think of anyone who doesn't need a jean skirt. Don't have one you love? Try this version ($98).

If you're looking to shop for men or children, we suggest that you wait. This discount is strictly for women but we predict that more promotions will be coming soon.

Beyond Mansur Gavriel: Bucket Bags

Mansur Gavriel bags may be the hottest trend for the spring. The waiting list for their iconic black and red bucket back may as long as long as Gulfstream's list for a G650. Luckily the Mansur Gavriel bags are less money than the long-range aircraft. Just be warned, prices on the next shipment of bags are up about 25% from last season.

Taking the price inflation and hype over this brand, we would seriously recommend investing in an alternative bucket bag. Some of our favorites include the Louis Vuitton Noe drawstring bag, which can be found on eBay for just about the same price as the Mansur Gavriel version. A denim Chanel bag with a chain drawstring is also priced under $600 and black and it doesn't get more 80s fabulous than a white MCM bucket bag for $300.

You can check out my entire collection of bucket bag selection here on eBay. We would love for you to comment about your predictions for the Mansur Gavriel brand and hear what you think about our eBay bucket bag alternatives.

Save the Date: David Yurman Sample Sale

We hope you've been stashing cash because the David Yurman sample sale is set to start Thursday, March 27. Discounts normally range from 30% to 60% off retail and 10% of all proceeds on the first day of the sale will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

During the last sale we didn't find many classic Yurman pieces. We did, however, find a lot of Petite Albion items. Rings and earrings with semi-precious stones were 30% and 50% off, depending on the particular item. For example, silver and pearl varieties were 30% off. Most of the jewelry selection was composed of link-type items and a few cable styles. Most of the iconic cable pieces were discontinued just 30% off. The watch selection was quite limited, but all timepieces were 50% off retail.

We are very much in love with the colorful Yurman aluminum bangles ($350) but doubt they will be at the sale. There aren't additional markdowns taken throughout the sale, so were suggest going early to get the best selection. The David Yurman outlet is always a good alternative if you can't find time within your day to make it to sample sale.

Get Ready for Spring at Royal East Shop

Now that it’s officially March, we are ready to throw away those over-used snow boots and start planning for sunny spring break. Top on our list of must-haves are colorful prints and playful basics.

Online store, Royal East Shop launched just last month and offers all of the ideal get-away items we desire. The best part is that the prices are super competitive. Check out these bright Rosena Sammi bracelets. While many stores are already sold out, Royal East Shop is selling a set of six for $47. We are also obsessed with this Missoni-like Agua Bendita cover-up and this translucent box clutch for just $43. We also love the Dimepiece tops that speak our mind: ‘cause honey, “love don’t pay the bills.”

In honor of their grand opening, Royal East Shop is offering customers an extra 10% off and free shopping. Just use the code GRAND10 at checkout.

Peter Pilotto on Clearance

The Peter Pilotto collection for Target hit stores on February 9th and less than a month later the merchandise has hit the clearance racks. The entire collection is discounted about 30% off and almost every item is still in stock online and in many Manhattan surrounding stores.

Although the Brittish designer is loved by fashion insiders, he isn't commercially known throughout the United Sates. We imagine that most people, even in the New York area, had no idea who designed the kaleidoscopic prints. And, apparently, not too many consumers wanted to jump into the rainbow of Pilotto's separates. That just means more for us.

Some of the collection's most popular items are still available and are on sale. The iris print strapless dress is available in limited sizes and is now reduced to $56 from $80, the belted green floral print dress worn by actress Taylor Schilling at the launch party is $35 from $50 and this light blue floral and stripped sweatshirt is $21 from $30.

Putting aside the most popular pieces, we prefer the more novel summer items. The brightly patterned beach towel for $17.50 from $25 and is a great hostess gift or a great way to brighten your poolside. The black and white print sneakers for $21 from $30 are as good as any Givenchy print slip-on sneaker. The iris print tote bag for $28 from $40 is also perfect for beach.

Considering the disappointment of the last few collaborations, Target may want to give Missoni another chance. What do you think?

Must Go: Monika Chiang Sample Sale

We love to go to a great sample sale but it's always sad when you know that the deals come along with the demise of a designer. It's no secret that the Monika Chiang brand had trouble getting traction among consumers but the end is always a surprise.

Sample sale organizers wouldn't confirm that this was a liquidation sale. It's not a leap to assume that the company is closing considering the brand's well-publicized layoffs, there's no retail distribution this season and the website wasn't stocked with spring merchandise. So, we say good-bye to Monika Chiang and suggest that shoppers not miss this shopping opportunity.

Inside the sale, you will find leather moto jackets (toupee, wine and blue-grey) reduced to $100 from almost $1000. There were still a few motos in black but all were a size xs. Leather pants are all priced at $80 and the inventory includes stretch leather leggings (silver, black, gray), leather cargo (black), leather moto (black, gray, light blue, pink) and leather sweat-pants (black). The retail prices on most of these styles range from $700 to $1100. We also found a selection of leather body-suits and tops, both for $65 from $795.

We admit, it's hard to get past all the leather that's reduced about 90% but there are still lots of other sale items. Almost everything from the Fall 2013 presentation can be found at the sale. The heavy weight canvas jackets and long wool coats are $100. The sale also has a full rack of stretch dresses with sexy mesh incerts for $50 from $325. There are also racks of assorted tees and tops. None were very interesting to most shoppers.

All of the bags are priced at $50, which is a huge discount from about $600. There are lots of these leather embossed clutches, this large hobo and this pony shoulder bag. The shoe selection is mostly tranny heels and cheesy over-embellished wedge sneakers. Although the shoe styles aren't very desirable, the all-under-$69-price-point is. Every shoe from the Monika Chiang site is represented at the sale. The OTK boots and shearling boots were the only styles that completely sold out.

Monika Chiang Sample Sale

Monika Chiang is one of those contemporary designers that goes a bit too unnoticed. Her designs resemble those of very high-end designers but the mass production and lower price point makes her collections a lot more affordable.

Monika's designs will be even be more pocket friendly with the start of her sample sale, on Monday. We are told that leather jackets will start at $100 and leather pants will be priced at $80. For reference, a leather jacket is usually pried at about $1000 and stretch leather pants are only a bit less than that. The quality of these items very much resembles that of Tory Burch. (Har,har.) Dresses will be priced at $50, jewelry will be priced from $20 to $40 and shoes between $40 to $65.

This summer, Monika hosted a sample sale of just accessories and shoes, which was a huge hit. Bags were all priced under $100 shoes were all under $100. According to those-in-the-know, tomorrows prices will even be better. We would also consider the how long this sample sale is scheduled and can only assume that the amount of merchandise will be huge! (If only, Monika's Birkin collection was included...) Be on the lookout for sale details tomorrow.
