Saks Pre-Fall 60% Off

Saks Fifth Avenue has taken a markdown to a large amount of pre-fall merchandise. The discount runs from 30% to 60% off. As expected, the nicest and newest merchandise is discounted the least but that doesn't mean there aren't some values that can freshen your wardrobe.

Frame skinny jeans are $80 from $200, a Clover Canyon print dress is $166 from $277 and these wide-leg Thakoon pants are a great buy for $340 from $850.

If you're looking for markdown on designer merchandise, you're still going to have to wait until Private Night. Most years the sale starts the second week of November. We would place bets on November 12. The discount is 40% and includes most third floor designers.

Ralph Lauren Fall Markdown

Ralph Lauren has started their first markdown of the season. Right now you can find select merchandise reduced 50% off.

Don't be disappointed that there aren't any high end fashion items for yourself. Instead, direct your attention towards the Denim & Supply collection. The fashion is urban casual and priced excellently. Take this hooded down jacket that's now $130 from $185, this majorly on trend men's styled herringbone coat that's $220 from $300 and a denim shirt for $55 from $80.

For men, a tennis polo is $90 from $125 and a golf polo is $62 from $90. There's also a nice selection for kids. A wool hooded toggle coat is $170 from $225 and this boy's large pony polo is $27 from $40.

There is also a bit of housewares on markdown but there isn't anything very eye catching. Ralphie really needs to start shaking up the home department. It's in dire need of an update.

Surprise: Manolo Sample Sale Happening Now

Sometimes a Wednesday just isn't just the middle of the work week. This is exactly one of those occasions. We just found out that Manolo Blahnik has started their sample sale. It opens to the public at 11am today.

Considering how the private days have run under the radar, we would hope that the sale isn't too much of a mob scene. Those brave enough to attend will be awarded with shoes priced at just $100. Exotic skin boots top out at $600. Shoes with ornamentation are usually priced at $150. You may even be able to afford to go crazy with a alligator style, which will cost you just $300 from a retail price of $4300. (That's less than the tax would cost.)

Usually, by the time the time the sale opens to the public, there isn't much left. We have a hunch that this isn't the case this year. If you're at the sale or plan to go to the sale please leave intell in the comment section so that we can pass it along to other Manolo fans.

JCP Designer Charity Sale

Every year, non-profit JCP hosts an amazing fashion sale that is reminiscent of shopping a local consignment store in the 1990s. The merchandise is amazing and prices are, would you believe, reasonable!

This season the sale will begin on Sunday, November 2 and run for four days. We got a sneak peak into some of the primo items. The extensive list includes studded Christian Louboutin peep-toe platforms $400, instead of $1,295. A Goyard red tote is now $400 from $1,300 and a Max Mara coat with fur collar is now $375 from $1,800. Other designers include Alexander McQueen, Acne, Ferragamo and YSL among many others.

You can point your courser right here to see the products on the organization's instagram account. One word of wisdom: JCP can be a bit tricky about not putting out all the best merchandise on the first day. So this might be a sale you should consider seriously stalking if you're looking to find fashion gold.

Sample Sales: Brioni, Rachel Zoe & Sandro

There are literally dozens of sample sales scheduled for this week but only a few meet our high standards of achieving worthiness. Below is a carefully curated selection of this week's upcoming sample sales paired with expert shopping tips.

Brioni
Wednesday, October 29th through Friday, October 31st
Wed—Thu 9am to 7pm, Fri 9am to 5:30pm
Soiffer Haskin, 317 W 33rd St (btwn 8th & 9th)
Men appreciate a good deal too and the Brioni sample sale is poised to offer lots of savings while supplying your man with top Italian suiting. Discounts are said to be up to 75% off but we suggest waiting until Friday to shop. We wouldn't be surprised if leftover merchandise was reduced to 90% off retail. Yes, 90%.

Rachel Zoe
Wednesday, October 29 through Sunday, November 2
Wed—Sat 10:30am to 7pm, Sun 10:30am to 5pm
Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Ave (btwn 15th & 16th)
We wouldn't suggest taking the trip from Madison Avenue to Chelsea Market for this sale but it may be worth checking out the goods if you're in the neighborhood. Merchandise will be discounted up to 70% off, which isn't much more than a good end-of-season sale.

Sandro
Thursday, October 30th through Sunday, November 2nd
Thu—Sat 10am—8pm, Sun 10am—4pm
151 Wooster Street (btwn W Houston & Prince)
Sandro has quickly become one of our favorite mid-priced brands. The styling is French chic and there are always a lot of great classic fashion items. We are going to be on the hunt for items more than 70% off. We'll be sure to keep you posted.

YSL, Fendi, Marni Friends & Family

It's near impossible to find a friends and family sale with no exclusions. These days, there is always a long list of designer blackouts. It is for this reason that we were so excited to find the Forzieri friends and family sale. The luxury retailer is now offering 25% almost all full price bags and shoes when you spend more than $250. Just use the code FRIENDS25 at checkout.

The best part of the promotion is that Forzieri carries great Saint Laurent, Fendi  and Gaultier. After the discount, a Fendi 2Jours comes to about $1900 from $2550, you can save about $1000 on a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour and you can shave about $600 off this Jil Sander top handle bag. The site also includes a lot of great items from Marni, Charlotte Olympia and Roberto Cavalli.

The sale runs through Tuesday but we suggest shopping soon because some of these highlighted items seem to be selling out. Perhaps, you should consider this Halloween gift to yourself. It's better than candy in so many ways.

Intermix Sale Items 70% Off

It appears as if all of our good "friends" have abandoned us reminded their discount codes. We might have to wait until November for the next round of markdowns and discount promotions but that doesn't mean it's impossible to find some real wear-now deals.

Right now, the sale section on Intermix is attracting smart shoppers with discounts that go to 70% off. We found this Etre Cecile graphic tee for $59 from $158, Rag & Bone distressed and ripped skinny jeans for $79 from $229 and a 6397 denim coat for $200 from $695.

Inside: Hermes & The Row Sample Sales

Today was a busy shopping day. Both Hermes and The Row opened up their discount dens to press and VIPs ahead of their public sales. Prices at both sales can make a rich girl poor but those shopping for Hermes or The Row don't suffer from sticker shock easily.

This year, the Hermes sale is better than the past several sales but brand veterans were still were not very impressed. Most everything is priced at 50% off retail. Shoppers will find a nice assortment of scarves -- Do you need more? -- enamel bracelets -- Do you wear the ones you own?

The sale has no leather bags, wallets or small leather times. We also didn't find any leather bracelets or belts. Ties are plentiful as are shoes and boots. The best items, if there are any left, are the Cape Cod watches, gloves and hats. The sale also includes a bit of china and clothing.

One thing that was abundant were the limits. For obvious reasons, each shopper could only purchase three scarves, five bracelets and 10 ties. We hear that some sales people will hold scarves so that you can take another pass at the checkout line but we didn't have the need to try.

The only limits at The Row sale is your bank account. Today's VIP preview provided a wide assortment of the twins' timeless classics. Prices are a bit higher this year. All clothing is discounted 70% off and bags are 60% off. Last year, everything was marked 80% off retail.

As we arrived, we noticed that the brand's popular chunky knit sweaters where quickly evaporating. By the time we left there were very few remaining. Bags were plentiful but going fast. The assortment included totes, backpacks, shoulder bags and satchels. There is also an entire table of gorgeous exotic bags. As you can assume, people were buying a lot of bags but there didn't seem to be any hoarding.

Other popular items include leather dresses, like this long sleeve mini style and the more classic sheath dress. There are leather leggings and leather coats too. There didn't seem to be as many blouses or coats as the past sale but the racks were filled with lots of dresses, pants and blazers. This school-boy jacket is one of our favorite items from the collection and we found it in both black and cream.

Almost everything at the sale is from this season's collection. Even if items are older, the styling of The Row is so classic that you would never know. Sizes run from 0 to 12 but there is only about half a rack of 0s. As we always say, The Row is the closest you will come to a civilized sample sale. Dare we even say, we enjoy shopping the sale more than Barneys???

The IT-it: Lace-Up Shoes

New York is a walking city. As much as we love wearing heels, it's just not possible to hobble around on a four inch needle while you make your way around a three mile track of errands. Ballet flats, smoking slippers and driving shoes have been the historical go-to for practical and fashionable footwear but this season, manly lace-up derby's, oxfords and creepers have taken the spotlight.

Below are a few of our favorites:

Barneys Purple Card Promotion

We know that shopping incentive programs aren't the best way to save money but a gift card for your purchase often feels like chocolate cake after great meal. Starting Wednesday, Barneys is gifting customers with a $25 gift card for every $250 you purchase. The promotion is just four days and ends Sunday.

The best part about this deal, is that there are no exclusions. That means you can get gifted from buying anything at Barneys from Goyard to Givenchy and Chanel and Louboutin. The only snag is that you have to use your gift card between the dates of November 17 and December 31, which is always a prime markdown period.

Be warned, Barneys will most likely not extend the dates if the cards aren't used during the specified window of time. So be sure to enjoy your meal and eat all your dessert.

The Week's Best Sample Sales: Hermes to Yurman

9am-6pm daily
Soiffer Haskin, 317 W. 33rd St btwn 8th & 9th Ave
The Hermes sample sale [formerly the mother of all sales] is scheduled to start later this week. Press, friends and top clients of the brand --with invitations-- are scheduled to begin shopping Wednesday. The sale will officially open to the public on Thursday. Expect very long lines at the start of the sale and before you invest a lot of time head remember how last year's epic Hermes fail. Oops, sale.

Hunter Bell

Wed & Thurs 10am-7pm, Fri 10am-6pm
152 West 36th Street, Suite 206
The sale includes an assortment from the designer's Fall and Winter 2014 samples. The merchandise ranged from dresses to coats and blouses to skirts. The merchandise will all be priced from $50 to $120 from a retail price of $250 to $600.

Thurs 12pm-7pm, Fri 9am-7pm, 9am-6pm
Metropolitan Pavilion
123 West 18th Street, 4th Floor
The Row sample sale is always a huge hit. Expect to save 70% off clothing and bags and 80% on damages. Last season, a leather coat was $11,000 reduced to $3500, a leather jacket is about $1000 from $2900 and a classic blazer was $1790 reduced to $537. Click here to read our past coverage.

David Yurman
Thursday, October 23 through Sunday, October 26
Thurs 3pm-8pm, Fri & Sat 10am-7pm, Sun 11am-5pm
The Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street
The discount usually ranges from 40% to 60% off but the last sale hosted by the designer didn't offer a very desirable selection. Silver bangles with cabochons and a few classic styles were half-off. Among the fine jewelry was a large gold Albion ring with tiger's eye and diamonds for $2250 from $5500 and an X cross-over ring was half off too.

The Bestie Friendly & Family Sales

I don't think there is another time of year that makes us feel more popular. It seems as if every online retailer his hosting a friends and family sale. And, guess what, everyone is your bestie. Our friends are offering enticing discounts ranging from in season Prada shoes to YSL lipsticks. Browse through the pictures of our top picks and read below for more details.

BlueFly
Extra 20% off your order with the code FAMILY and an extra 10% off Prada. We found a Moncler jacket that's reduced about $1000 and a huge assortment of Burberry that's reduced about 50% once all the discounts are applied. The selection of Prada includes this season's colorblock Mary Jane that come to $545 from $925, wingtip oxfords are $520 from $890 and a Prada Saffiano double zip bag is about $1500 from $2100.

Calvin Klein
Mark our words, Calvin Klein is about to have a huge comeback. (We've been saying it for a while but it's happening.) Now though Sunday you can save 30% off everything on line using the code FFOCT30. You can try using the promotion at the Madison Avenue boutique but we aren't sure it will work. Not sure what to buy online? We are big fans of the company's sleepwear and their basic underwear rivals La Perla Studio.

Lord & Taylor
Lord & Taylor may not be the swankiest of stores but is about the only shopping destination that still includes beauty in its friends and family sale. Right now you can save 25% off most merchandise and 10% off beauty and fragrance. Use the code FRIENDS at checkout. The sale runs through October 26. We suggest heading to the Chanel beauty counter to take advantage of this sale promotion. Dior and YSL beauty can both be purchased online.

Rebecca Taylor
Always classic. Rebecca Taylor is giving shoppers 25% off everything. Could you imagine, no exclusions? Use the code RTFRIENDS14 at checkout. Absolutely go for the double v-neck jumpsuit and the cocoon coat. The sale runs through Monday.

Madison Avenue Celebrates Heritage

Highlighting trends and style is fun but it's always nice to add a bit of substance to your fashion with the understanding of a brand's history and heritage. The Madison Avenue Business Improvement District is elevating the shopping experience through an interactive online app that allows shoppers to view educational shorts from some of their favorite brands.

Although the online app launched today the Madison Avenue Fashion Heritage Week officially runs from October 20 to 26. During this time, a variety of boutiques will redesign their store windows to highlight their rich heritage and history. Participating boutiques include: Akris, Bally, Brunello Cucinelli, Calvin Klein Collection, Carolina Herrera, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Ermenegildo Zegna, Etro, Hermès, J. Mendel, John Lobb, Longchamp, Max Mara, Missoni and Mulberry.

We must admit, that the best part of the initiative is the rich commentary delivered by Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of The Museum at FIT. Her depth of knowledge and insight leave you salving for more. We just wish more brands allowed the resident expert to narrate more of the heritage videos. Her insight is a lot more enriching than the ordinary luxury brand short.

You can experience the official Madison Avenue Heritage Week walking tour here. The best part is watching it live from in front of the boutiques but we won't tell if you experience the app right there from your bed.

Accessorizing Your LBD

The ubiquitous little black dress, or LBD, isn't always very exciting. But there's lot of room to have fun if you think of the wardrobe basic as a blank canvas. Below, we shopped Nordstrom for three stylish basic black dresses and picked an assortment of accessories to jazz up the look. These items can be used with almost any basic dress. Remember, if the dress is basic you can go wild with the accessories. Nordstrom always offers free shipping and free returns. If only other things in the city were as easy as shopping at Nordstrom.

Saks Friends & Family Online Now

The Saks Friends & Family sale doesn't officially start until Thursday but the sale just went live online today. The discount is 25% off most everything that isn't designer. Jewelry is 20% off. Just use the code FRNFAM when checking out.

This season there seems to be more designer exclusions than ever. We estimate that there are more than 200 designers not participating in the discount. Sure, we've become accustomed to the Chanel and Louboutin embargo, but we are surprised that even brands like Jet Set and Gryson are opting out. At this rate it feels more like shopping hype.

If you're really looking to take advantage of the available discounts, we suggest starting in the sale section. Most everything that's already reduced is eligible for an extra 25% off, which brings the savings to 75% on some items. This Nanette Lepore leather and illusion skirt comes to $273 from almost $600, an emerald green Kate Spade jacket rings out at $285 from $648 and this white Thakoon eyelet dress is more than 75% off from $1220 to $366.

Take note, Saks has underscored all of the items that are included in the friends and family promotion. (We can use all the help we can get.) Just look for the Friends & Family tag below each specified item. As always we suggest waiting for the Private Night promotion that happens during the first week of November. Most designers are included then and the discount is 40%.

Shopbop Friends & Family

The hugely popular Shopbop friends and family sale is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday. Once the sale begins shoppers can use the code FRIENDS25 and save an additional 25% off most items on the site. Of course, there are designer exclusions but Shopbop's list isn't too bad. You can click here to see the full list of where the code won't work.

The best part of this sale is that you can apply the discount to previously reduced merchandise. For this reason, we always like to start our browsing in the sale section. We are obsessed with these Chrissie Morris Wink pumps that come to $330 from $985, this slinky Vionnet long sleeve dress rings in at about $500 from $2260, and 3.1 Phillip Lim marbleized pants are about $100 from $450.

Some less expensive and more causal options include this BLK DNM jean top that's now about $50 from $170, an Each x Other sweatshirt with leather fringe is about $130 from $527 and Paige Denim high waste zip jeans are about $75 from $209.

Remember, the code won't go into effect until Tuesday. In the meantime, we suggest loading your cart up now. It wouldn't be the first time the site went down from too much traffic. The three day sale ends Thursday. Get shopping.

Best Columbus Day Sales

Celebrating finding America isn't what it used to be. Banks are open and so is the the NYSE. Chances are, if you're not in a union-- you have work. Even so, it is the perfect day to go "sailing." Shopping online is just too easy, especially when online discounts are better than much of what you'll find in stores. Here are a few of our holiday favorites:

Barneys Warehouse
The famous Warehouse (website) is offering shoppers an additional 30% off almost everything on the site and an extra 40% off clearance merchandise. A Derek Lam cobalt blue coat comes to about $600 from $2550, Pierre Hardy knee high boots come to about $270 from almost $1300 and this Thakoon dress is under $150 from $650. Yoox
The site has a selection of designer fashion some of which is hardly ever on sale. Take these Chloe scalped flats that are under $300, a Roksanda blush colored blouse is $151 and a fire engine red Stella McCartney coat is $790 from $1488.

Barneys-Like Closeouts at 80% Off

We spend a lot of time trolling eBay. It's the obvious place to pick up vintage and preowned wonders but this week we unearthed a collection of brand new designer clothing that is worthy of Barneys. The best part is that the merchandise is between 65% and 80% off.

Head right this way to see all the Suno, VBH, Preen and Clover Canyon that we uncovered. We also have a few tips on how to haggle for even better prices. Some times, we wonder what we would do without online shopping.

Louboutin x Disney = No Joke

Designer collaborations have become as commonplace as sushi takeout. We just never expected that Christian Louboutin would take the Disney route for an exclusive Angelina Jolie Maleficent shoe. No. We ware not kidding.

"The curled heel and nude mesh base hint that something sinister is afoot," says a news release. Yes, it is evident that this entire concept is twisted. The only "silver lining" is that profits from sales benefit the SOS Children’s Villages, an NGO supported by Jolie that provides stable, loving homes for orphaned and abandoned children in 133 countries.

The limited edition shoe, is $1400 and drops exclusively at Louboutin boutiques on October 20 in New York, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong and Paris. Call now to place your preorder but we would personally prefer takeout from Tanoshi Sushi.

The Designer Bag You Want Now: Luxury Bond

One would think that after making the decision to spend 3, 4, $5000 on a bag that you would only need to go to the store and hand over your plastic. With some designers that sense of instant gratification doesn't always work. Take Chanel as an example, the brand is often completely sold out of it's most popular styles-- like the WOC (wallet on a chain) and its Boy Bags.

What do you do when you have that yearning burning inside but no there's product to ease the pain? Head to the amazing Luxury Bond website. The luxury retailer is a great resource for completely authentic Chanel, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and the occasional Saint Laurent or Hermes. The best part is that the store is always stocked with the most hard to find designer handbag styles--some are even offered at a discount.

Take a look, when was the last time you saw a classic black or red Boy Bag just sitting on the shelves of your local Saks Fifth Avenue? Or how about this Caviar WOC and a straight forward mini classic?

The experience of getting exactly what you want exactly when you want is almost unheard of within the world of Chanel. The best part is that Luxury Bond offers domestic shipping for a flat fee of $19 and all sales taxes are already included in the price of the bag. The site also ships to many international destinations.

Those looking to cash out of their lightly worn luxury bags would also do very well consigning with Luxury Bond. The company's commission fees are lower than we've ever seen-- ranging from just 15% to 25%, depending on the price of the item. That means that you get to keep most of the value of your bag but don't need to deal with the hassles of selling it yourself.

So what are you waiting for? Go get your dream bag right now.

Getting the Prices for Designer Sunglasses

The prices of sunglasses have skyrocketed over the past several years but unlike other luxury merchandise designer peeper protectors are widely distributed among retailers. This means that there is a lot more pricing leeway when it comes to premium shades. Head right this way to read my full guide on finding the perfect pair of sunglasses for a major discount.

35 Reasons to Get to Century 21 Now

It's been ages since we've headed to the Century 21 flagship and figured it would be interesting to see what's changed since the store was remodeled. We began our shopping trip with low expectations but were shocked to see that discount store was fully stocked with the most premier legendary designer treasures. We're talking about the names you hardly ever find outside of boutiques any more.

When was the last time you saw Prada and Hermes in a discount store? Exactly. On the Prada rack we found classic puffer jackets with fur collars for $980 from $1890, gingham long wool coats are $1749 from $3860 and leather moto jackets for $1649 from $3885. Take note, signs above the Prada merchandise states: C21 Guaranteed Authentic. Not Affiliated or Authorized Retailer of PRADA. (Pics in the jump.)

The Lanvin section wasn't any less spectacular. A ruffled top dress is $1759 from $5000 and a classic LBD is $979 from $2975. Other great finds include a long Gucci shearling coat for $3059 from $15,770, a classic Pucci coat with a fur collar that comes in assorted solid colors is $1059 from $4000, a classic Missoni sweater coat is $429 from $2575 and a Celine leather top is $670 from $2275.

The Hermes silk blouse was not the best piece of fashion we found at C12 but it was the biggest shocker. The blouse is priced at $1499 from $2705 and a Hermes tee is $399 from $640. Both not worth the money but nonetheless surprising. The store is also well stocked with Oscar de la Renta stunners and great Proenza prints. You can check out pictures of all the aforementioned items along with a lot more with a clickty click.

Upstairs on the 6th floor, the children's department is also stocked with great fashion finds. There are ADD jackets for everyone from infants to the 14-16 set. A girls Missoni coat is $300 from $660, a Dolce & Gabbana dress is $119 from $324 and dressy Oscar de la Renta girl's dresses are $101 from $235.

Frankly, we haven't been this excited by a discount shopping trip in a very long time. We suggest that all you Uptown girls head downtown before the tourists walk away with all of our home town goodies.
