Nordstrom Sporting Discounts of 60% Off

This time of year might be the most difficult time to find good discounts. It takes lots of browsing and sorting to find anything noteworthy. A sort through Nordsrom's sale section, however, turned up some interesting finds.

Among the items the reduced 60% is this great Comme Des Garcons twill topper that's $460 from $1160, a mini Fendi bag that's $680 from $1700 and an Alexander Wang denim skirt that's reduced to $118 from almost $300.

Beyond the sale section, it's definitely worth your time to take a browse through the more cutting edge designer merchandise that Nordstrom has grouped as 'Here + Now'. The Brandon Maxwell collection is so nicely tailored that it looks like fine art, the Lowe selection  as spot-on as any snooty niche boutique and there is more Vetements than anyone will ever need. Did you get your $2700 hoodie dress yet?

Beyond the Vetements, there is truly a lot to keep your eyes on. For now, we are happy with our baby Fendi on sale.

Ralph Lauren Final Clearance 70% Off

Ralph Lauren has started their final clearance sale of the season. Most merchandise is now discounted 70% off. Although this isn't the biggest sale of the season, there are still some great finds. We wouldn't count on them sicking around for very long.

This sale is online only but we usually find that the Ralph Lauren boutique will match prices. It always takes some time and standing around waiting for a manager's authorization. In this instance it might just be easier to shop online. This leather zip jacket is now $300 from almost $1000, a Wimbledon bomber jacket is $200 from $500 and a team USA polo is $60 from $98. We even found this classic black Ricky Bag reduced to $1300 from $2750 and this purple suede version is just $624 from $2250.

Among the men's polos there is a team USA Olympic polo for $70 from $125, a classic polo starts at $35 from $98 and depending on the color and the classic fit Big Pony's start at $44 from $125. There is still a lot of Olympics merchandise but the discount isn't stellar. We will keep a watchful eye on the red, white and blue.

There might be an additional promotion before the sale season officially ends but it won't likely save you very much more money than the current savings. We suggest that you buy what you like now, and don't look back.

Hervé Léger Moving Sale

Hervé Léger is moving its store on Madison Avenue. In honor of the move we are celebrating by taking advantage of amazing markdowns.

Right now, the boutique has two categories of sale merchandise. The first section is filled with dresses and speperates that are all priced from $199 to $699. The rest of the store, which primarily consists of the prior spring and summer collections is reduced 70% to 80% off.

The sale runs through Sunday. Unfortunately, no phone orders are being accepted. So you're going to have to head uptown to restock on your bondage dresses or go online to the sale section. The discounts aren't as plentiful on the website but here is a jacquard dress that's reduced to $402 from $1320 and strapless dress that's $537 from $1790.

Neiman Marcus Gift Card Event

No matter how much we try to resist, there are always a few items we need immediately. Considering sale season is more than three months away, finding a good gift card promotion could be your best (and only) discount option.

Starting Monday,  Neiman Marcus is offering customers up to $300 in gift cards. The gift card incentive breakdown is below.

Spend $500 or more and receive $100
Spend $750 or more and receive $200
Spend $1000 or more and receive $300

The sale runs online through August 23. The best part is that there are hardly any exclusions and the promotion includes beauty and fragrance items. Just use the code NMAUG at checkout to automatically receive your electronic gift card.

Some fashion pieces never seem to go on sale and others we just refuse to wait for. For example, living another moment without this Brandon Maxwell bustier top would be pure torture.  And we all know the Chloe Drew bag in the sweetest powder pink is never going on sale nor are those Christian Louboutin booties that we completely wore out last year.

Once you get started, it's hard to stop. After all, any incentive is reason enough start the new shopping season.

The IT-It: Fashion Worthy Handbags

New Yorkers are as obsessed with handbags in a way most people are invested with their cars. See, nobody ever sees our cars. So, we don't really care. Our handbags, on the other hand, are representitive of our personal style. After all, some cost more than a small car.

Every season brings a new crop of hot it'bags. Try as you must, it's sometimes hard not to fall for what's destined to become a fashion cliche. In honor of the new season, we've picked an assortment of our favorite bags on the market. We've steered clear of the ubiquitous Birkins and 2.55s and opted for the breathtaking Delvaux Tempête GM satchel and the Blackout bag from Balenciaga, which has no hardware.

Both bags represent an understated luxury but don't sacrifice style. Use the above scroll to see more of our favorite new bags for this season. Just remember, many of the most fashionable woman carry no bag because their Escalade is waiting around the block.

Farfetch Discounts Top 75% Off

Farfetch is known for bringing the world's most popular fashion boutiques, local and emerging designers and brands to a single website. It almost makes us sad that we can shop our favorite Italian boutiques right here in New York. Some might say it takes away the adventure but it's realistic to think that anyone can hop on a plane several times a year and great each new collection from their favorite stores.

One of the other great things about Farfetch is that it makes markdowns available globally. Right now, the site is offering discounts of up to 75% off. We are told this is the last week to take advantage of these steep discounts.

Here's a Dolce & Gabbana dress that's 70% off. Too bad it still comes out $2550.  Then there is this Stella McCartney sleeves shirtdress that's $760 from $2500. Here's a Givenchy Love cardigan that's $740 from $1200. It's really perfect for early Fall. Don't you think?

One thing that we've noticed is that many American brands are more expensive when sold from foreign stores. We suppose that's what happens when you pay duty twice. Speaking of which, all prices include duty and returns are free for 14 days after your purchase is received.

What's even cooler, is that Farfetch has click-and-collect service, which allows customers to purchase items online, then pick them up from any of 100 boutiques around the world. Best part, there are no associated shipping charges that can easily become expensive.

The store also carries this season's Chloe Faye bag with rainbow patchwork that's reduced to $1840 from $2450 and this Valentino Rockstud zip clutch is $980 from $1395. Our favorite is the Gucci Dionysus Sequin-Embroidered bag that's $3040 from $3800. (Click here to see pictures from inside the store.)

The Fall IT: Backpacks

The thought of getting back to school can make anyone anxious but it's impossible to ignore the fact that teachers are already stocking their classrooms. Aisles are filled with back to school supplies and prudent parents are already tackling their supply lists.

It's prime time to start dissecting the most important item for any child (or adult) heading back to the classroom-- the backpack. Nothing says it's a new school year more loudly than the bright and clean glow of a new backpack. Below is a compilation of some of our favorites. There are a lot of good ones. It's going to be hard to choose.

The Fall IT: Velvet Block Heels

The thought of wearing a sweater makes our skin itch but it's impossible to ignore the fact that fall fashion is here. September magazine issues are arriving and back to school shopping is well underway. It's prime time to start dissecting the next big trends.

The season’s hottest fabric is Velvet. The lush textile can be worn crushed, coloured or top-to-toe but our favorite items of the season are plush velvet block heels. Look for jewel colored hues like rich midnight blue, bordeaux and emerald.

Some of our favorite variations are Gianvitto Rossi's heavenly Mary Jane platforms, Miu Miu platform sandals, Chalotte Olympia's velvet and metallic leather platform and Saint Laurent's Candy platforms, which are almost completely sold out in every size. Be sure not to overlook Dries Van Noten's ankle boots with a sculpted heel. They are showstoppers.

If you're not into clunky, we suggest you opt for Manolo Blahnik's BBs in pearl velvet, Christian Louboutin's or Saint Laurent's pointy toe.

Some wear-now variations-- well wear in September-- include Prada's mixed media leather-velvet sandal platforms and Gianviitto Rossi's low stacked sandal. If you're looking for some less expensive options, we suggest you go with a platform sandal from Sam Edelman and a Barneys label Mary Jane.

The best part about this trend is that the velvet sandals can be worn in early Fall and accessorized by a great pedicure. Once the frost of brutal Winter grabs hold, you can pair your sandals with thick opaque tights. Just make sure that your shoe has a heavy platform to counter balance the weight of the tights.

The problem is, these fashions don't come without a price. A very high price.

Inside Manolo's Final Summer Markdown

If you are debating if you should pop over to Manolo Blahnik's mid-town boutique to scope out their final sale-- don't debate, just go!

As usual, prices are broken down by colored stickers; orange, red, blue and green with the prices ranging from $195 to $275. The sale isn't as plentiful as past seasons but there are enough classic styles to put a crimp in your wallet.

When we scouted the sale, Tuesday afternoon, there was a 15 minute wait to get into the store. Once inside, it was hard to choose which BBs to take home. Classic white or colorful suede? At $195 a pop just take them both, right? Peep-toe d'orsay heels were $250, as were most of the shoes that weren't basic.

A few pointers for Manolo's final markdown: Shoppers shouldn't hoard display shoes, you should be loyal to one sales person (they work on commission) and try to be in and out quickly because there is a one-out-one-in policy when the store is crowded.

The final markdown ends on Thursday and then the boutique closes until Tuesday, August 9th. At that time all the Summer styles are whisked away and replaced with the fall collection.
