Goyard Private Sale

This is a "bit" West of Madison but the Goyard boutique, in San Francisco, is hosting a "private" sale event on Thursday, July 31st from 5pm to 8pm. It's mostly overstock merchandise, so the colors that go on sale are almost always green and orange. There is an occasional red. Black and royal blue do show up, but it's a rarity.

Last year, West Coast Spies report that the discount was from 10% to 40% off retail prices. A $2450 red Jeanne was on sale for $1800. Lots of floor samples were also for sale. Getting the $100 hand-painting cost waved might be reason enough to change your initials to match a floor sample bag. In prior sales there have also been plenty of agendas, wallets and card cases.

Sorry but sale items can't be shipped. Trance, fire up the BBJ. We're spending the weekend at the OTHER Union Square.

Mad-Spy Roundup (con't)

Coverage of final markdowns continue...

I called and shopped asking the question, "Do you still have any Spring/Summer merchandise?" Then followed up with the pièce de résistance, "What is the current markdown?" Here are the responses in alphabetical order.

Barneys (6th floor): "We have a bit left still." Everything is 75% of except for Marc Jacobs, which is 70% off.

Bergdorf Goodman (4th floor): "There are bits and pieces on the racks in the special sale section." The sale is up to 75% off. Most shoes are now 65% off.

Bloomingdales (3rd floor): "It's now the consolidation sale." The markdown is 40-35-60, which comes to a grand total of 81% off.

Saks (3rd floor): "Yes a bit." The markdown is 60% off and the same goes for shoes.

Super Saturday 7/26

Since 1998, Donna Karan has hosted and underwritten Ovarian Cancer Research Fund's annual summer fundraiser: Super Saturday. This Hamptons garage sale is just what you would expect of a Hamptons garage sale.

"The Rolls Royce of garage sales allows celebrities, supporters, and shop-a-holics alike to purchase designer goods at deep discounts to support a good cause," the website boasts.Everyone from Prada to LVMH pitches in to support the chicest flee market on earth. Click here to see a full list of Garage Sale Participants.

Of course there is a hitch. Tickets to the CHARITY event start at $450. Early entry will cost you an extra $200 and sponsorships go up to $50,000. This year the festivities take place on July 26, 2008, from noon to 6:00pm, at Nova's Ark Project in Water Mill. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

See ya there!

P.S. Here's a bit of a hint for those of you who don't want to drop almost $500 to go shopping. Volunteers don't pay the entrance fee. All volunteer opportunities are closed for this year but plan early for next year.

I Spy: Phillip Lim for Gap

I have been on the fence about Phillip Lim since he hit the fashion scene in 2004. Not sure on what side I sit at this point but I have to admit that there are a few things that I have liked. This past season Phillip did what every up-and-coming designer does-- partnered with a big box store. No, not Target, but rather what I consider to be the most boring store of them all-- the Gap.

The designs were actually nice and I even considered pressing the checkout button on . Upon consideration, however, I thought it was silly to spend $78 on what is basically, a white Gap shirt. Much rather have a white Miu Miu or Prada shirt if I'm nearing the triple digit price tag. (I love the spandex in their material.)

Time as passed on and Winter has turned into Spring and Spring into Summer. Now that $78 short is 7 bucks at your local Gap. For that price, who can say no? Online however, there are only two styles left and the price is far more at almost $30. Either way $7 or $30, the shirt is a good deal. I hope you agree.

spend $500-$999 --> get $50
spend $1000-$1999 --> get $100
spend $2000-$2999 --> get $300
spend $3000 or more --> get $450

Neiman Marcus Extra 50% Off

If you have a few moments of surfing time, hop over to They are hosting an extra 50% off fine apparel already reduced merchandise (that's the stuff we like). The selection is small but the products are stunning. The merchandise is already reduced 30% and another 50% brings the total savings to 65% off.

Most items are four figures long before the new discount and still kind of pricey. However, I would gladly take this Dolce & Gabbana belted bubble dress over a full priced Tracy Reese. Granted, this dress is not for everyone but to me it yells, "chic." This Dolce was origionally $2,395 but is now about $775. Gulp. I think I am going to be passing on both the Reese and the red bubble.

Jimmy Choo Sample Sale Undone

Friends report back that the Choo sale is a bit of a sneeze. This is how it went down-- Press was given entry at noon, friends and family at 1:00pm and the general public had access at 2:00pm.

The prices are as follows: Shoes are $250 to $275. Boots range about $300. Exotic shoes are $375. The bag selection is small and range from $200 to $1100. The Mahala, photographed below, was $600.

There are no sunglasses but there are wallets, which are $100 for large sizes, $75 for medium sizes and $50 for credit card/business card holders.

The sale runs until tomorrow at 6pm. As usual I say--PASS!

Valentino Friends and Family

I got the following email last week:

“Please let me know if you are interested in going as I need to add your name to a list as it is a private sale and when you go to the store you need to be discrete. This discount is 70% off.”

This was attached:

Getting beyond that fact that this is an amazing sale. When do you get to shop Valentino for 70% off? All the rules and the "list" give me clubbing flashbacks. For some reason I am picturing a velvet rope and petite girls dressed in black, miked-up and carrying clipboards

However, I digress. This is a friends and family sale with a list. It runs for three days: July 17th, 18th and 19th. Only Spring sale items are included. This is a "privileged please be discreet." (I'm sorry. That makes me laugh every time I read it.) New York, Los Angeles, Bal Harbour, Las Vegas, Palm Beach, SouthCoast Plaza, Boston, and Dallas are the only boutiques included.

You are limited to two day bags and three evening bags. So don't think you're going to be able to stock your eBay store for the next six months. Happy shopping and remember-- BE DISCREET!

New Barneys Sale Merchandise

When a store starts a sale, you go get what you want and figure that the selection usually gets worse with time. But no. Sometimes sales just get better as time goes on.

Living in a city like New York we are lucky enough to be in the heart of consolidation. It's not out of the ordinary for other cities like Houston and New Orleans to clear out their merchandise and send it to the Big Apple at the tail end of sale season.

The Internet is also a great medium for blasting out product. Take Barneys, for instance. added a bunch of new merchandise to it's site this weekend. Their sale started a few weeks ago but there's lots of inventory that was not there even last week.

These silver python Christian Louboutin ballerina slippers were $950 but are now $380. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that 60% off? There are lots of other 50% and 60% off shoes and slippers to choose from. Take a browse. There's no cab fare or gas usage for trolling online.

Century 21 Clearance Sale

Century 21 is a very interesting breed of department store. Of course it is a discounter but I have found some of the most amazing things there. Take my $4k Prada silk and mink coat that I got there for $700 or the $400 DVF dress I found there in 1998 for $25. (It still looks great today.)

Some days it's a hit other times it's a bust and more recently the tourists make the store somewhat of a nightmare to navigate. If you have some skill for endurance, however, and a knack for weeding through what's mostly junk you may find a surprising gem. Starting today, Century 21 is having their clearance sale where prices are guaranteed to be more than 85% off suggested retail prices.

If you really can't take the crowds may I suggest you head out to one of their other locations. You can find details about their non-Manhattan locations here.

Jimmy Choo 2nd Markdown & Sample Sale

Jimmy Choo pushed the trigger button and reduced prices again from 30% off to 50% off. You're still better off going to a department store where they have reductions up to 70% off at this point. Sometimes though, the selection isn't the same and a girl (or guy) has got to do what a girl (or guy) has got to do-- spend too much for something they love.

The sale is also running online. Click here if you want to take a gander. Only problem is that prices are quoted in pounds and it seems cheap until you do the currency conversion. That damn weak dollar!

Contact: Zita 212-759-7078

In other news, there is a Jimmy Choo sample sale next week where shoes, bags and accessories will start at 60% off. (As I'm sure you can imagine--I would still rather go to the department store.)

Here are the sample sale dets:

Luxury Watches Friends and Family

Movado is the parent company of luxury brands like Ebel and Concord and also fashion brands like Juicy Couture and Lacoste. Pryced Wright sends us word that Movado hosts a friends and family sale three times a year. The discount is up to 60% off on all brands, which also includes Coach, ESQ and of course, Movado.

At the last sale, I am told that there was a limited edition watch where Movado commissioned Proenza Schouler to design a his rendition of their Museum watch. It had a "brown dial on a fantastic distressed brown leather cuff-size strap with antiqued contrast stitching," Wright dishes. The retail price was $1,500 but it was available at the sale for $595.

Only challenge is you've gotta be willing to drive to their NJ office (650 From Rd., 3rd Fl., Paramus NJ 07652).  Load it up in your navigation system and you are road trip ready. I've always like the gold Ebel Beluga. Give me a shout out if you see one.

Movado Friends & Family Sale
Friday, July 11th
1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Saturday, July 12th

Monday, July 7, 2008 Extra 40% Off

I was web hopping today and came across an unexpected discount. Seems as if Neiman Marcus online is holding an extra promotion. The site is boasting an extra 40% off sale merchandise. It's unclear if this is "Last Call" but the value is there.

This D&G grosgrain-trimmed sheath dress is perfect for lunch or cocktails and started out at $425 but is now just $165.

These blue or pink Manolo Blahnik crisscross ankle-wrap sandals were $675 but are now about $305.

There has been no email notification for the extra reduction nor is there any info on the homepage. So there is still a pretty good selection and several sizes from which to choose.

More Reductions at Saks

Come and get it...
I imagine that this is the last ha-ra at Saks. From Thursday, July 10th to Sunday, July 13th you can take an additional 50% off select sale merchandise. I expect the selection to be limited but the discount is deep. I did a quick scan of the website and there are still a few worth while items.

Take this $495 See By Chloe dress. With the additional markdown it will be under $100.

These Jimmy Choo gold snake skin sandals might not be for everyone but regardless they are pretty hot. They started out at $920 but with an extra 50% off should be about $275. Not cheap, but again they are really hot.

Prada at Barneys

Before I started packing for the big weekend I stopped by Prada to see if there were any further reductions. Why do laundry and pack old clothing if you can pick up something new? Turns out that there will be no more reductions at Prada. As a matter of fact all Spring/Summer merchandise is being sent away Monday. To where, nobody knows. I always imagine it to be some sort of clothing heaven where racks of clothing peacefully rest for eternity. It's more likely an outlet.

As a mere formality I ran into Miu Miu too. The sales people were less assured of the supreme plan but Judith was forthcoming about Barneys having a great selection, which is highly reduced. Even on the Barneys site there are some great buys. This Prada double ring flat started off at $530 and is now 50% or $265. I'm almost sure that the gladiator look will only be bigger next Spring. Just beware when shopping online at Barneys. They frequently oversell their inventory and several days later cancel orders. Don't be surprised if what you see is not what you get.

PS Have a fun and safe 4th of July!

New Neiman Marcus Markdowns

I love this time of year. Everything you have browsed over for the past six months finally becomes affordable. Most of the stuff already tires me but there are always a few items that still make my heart pound. I consider it fate when those items are still around the store and in my size. It would be so wrong to doubt fate. That's why July is the "i'll-take-it" month.

This week, fate will be brought to you by Neiman Marcus. The new sale starts July 10th but pre-sale is underway. The sale is an additional 40% off already reduced prices. Music to my ears...
