Marc Jacobs 70% Off

The Marc Jacobs boutique in SoHo-- not to be confused with the Marc Jacobs section of the West Village-- is hosting a 70% off sale. All spring ready-to-wear, shoes and jewelry are discounted by two-thirds. Bags are not discounted at all so if you're looking for a good MJ bag discount you might want to head over to Barneys or Saks.

Oscar de la Renta 50% Off

The entire Oscar de la Renta spring collection is 50% off, including ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, belts, sunglasses and fashion jewelry. The sale is also online for your viewing and shopping pleasure.

Most dresses started off at about $7000 and are about $3500 now. Shoes are in the $600 to $700 range and are now, well, half that. The after sale price for sunglasses averages around $150 and handbags are, not very attractive, so don't worry about it.

The site also has an outlet where the inventory from prior collections is also 50% off. We don't understand that pricing rational but maybe other shoppers do. Last season, the collection went to 70% off. So if you're looking for a great deal you might want to wait four to six weeks.

Louboutins and Choos

Choo shoes and Louboutin shoes are officially going on sale at their respective boutiques starting Friday. The spring/ summer collection at Christian Louboutin will be 40% off. We are told that there is still a good selection of shoes and sizes but you should go now because there will not be any further discounts.

As for Jimmy Choos, the discount is 30% off. The sale includes the summer and cruise collection, as well as select bags. There was a private sale last week but we were left in the dark due to a dim sales woman who believed that the sale would not begin until the fall. Don't fret, we have the situation under control and Faisa will be taking care of all our Jimmy Choo "needs." going forward.

The Same Game: YSL Cage Boots

Every season an iconic piece of fashion emerges. Sometimes it's a belt at a particular width, could be a bag with a noticeable print or the intricate pleating of a skirt. This season, YSL seems to have captured a look with their Cage Boots. Rumoured to be sold out shortly after the collection arrived, we were surprised to see these wearable (or unwearable) pieces of art reduced.

In the spirit of Madison Avenue Spy--lets play The Same Game!

YSL Cage Boots: Retail price $1,590
Bergdorfs:$1590-- will be reduced on June 3rd either 30% or 40%
eBay: $1700
YSL Boutique: $999
Saks: $1590 --will be reduced 30% on June 1 to $1113 Private Presale has launched their private sale. To view the items at their discounted price you need to use this link.

Bags range from 30% to 40% off, ready-to-wear, shoes (including holdovers from the winter), scarves, belts and other accessories are all 40% off. Expect another discount soon but without the presale or the secret link.

Roger Vivier Private Sale

We got a postcard this week announcing a five day sale at Roger Vivier. Most of this season's style are 30% to 40% off. Some bags and clutches are included in the sale but sunglasses and the classic square pilgrim shoe are not.

The private sale runs through Sunday and then prices go back up. We think they will yo-yo the prices a few more times before the season is over but we don't expect the discount to go higher than 40%.

Marni 30% to 40% Off

Marni's sale has officially started. Ready-to-wear is 30% off but accessories will be 40% off for the first time ever. Rumours are that second cut is just a few weeks away and will be 50%.

The sale is also available on the Marni site. The above dress was $1120 and is now $784. A ruched lambskin leather shoulder bag was $1655 and is now $993. A jacquard orange and brown check sleeveless top was $955 and is now $669.

Saks and Barneys 1st Markdown

The department stores are going to their first markdown. At Saks, shoes, handbags, clothing and other accessories will range from 30% to 40% off. The sale officially starts Monday but presale is underway. The call we received from a first floor specialist detailed the handbag department-- Bottega Veneta bags are 40% but Jimmy Choo and Gucci are just 30% off.

Meanwhile uptown, Barneys is marking their designers down 40%. The sale is also online but beware, there are many shoe styles that didn't sell when there were 70% off this winter.

The good department store markdowns may be slow but they are coming. Until then we'll keep a watchful eye

Jeffery Presale Begins

Hi, Lila.

How are you?

You probably heard we are pre-selling most styles. I have a blog with pictures of many styles that you are welcome to check out.

I do have items that are not on the blog. If you have specific collections you are interested in, I would be glad to send you pictures of those.

I am in the store from 10 am until 6 pm this evening.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Jeffrey NY

Editorial note: The discount is 40% off.

McQueen 40% Off

There's still a good chance to get a good deal on Alexander McQueen even if you did bypassed the Target line. The spring summer collection goes on sale June 2nd but you can register online now for presale "opportunities."

This seems to be a cool high tech way to presale. Sure beats getting dozens of random "we're-going-on-sale" phone call while you are fighting to catch a cab. Could you imagine what fashion industry would do if they had to give up fax machines?

Prada Presale Begins

Prada's presale begins Friday. Ready-to-wear is 50% off and accessories are 40% off. Even with the steep discount we are hard pressed to find anything worth buying and we usually drool over anything with a Prada lable. Can anyone clarify what is up with this white-paper-bag-with-black-ribbon look?

Woodbury Commons Weekend

The holiday weekend is upon us, which usually means major outlet reductions. We went to Woodbury Commons to scoop out the situation and found that many of the outlet stores have become a bit more conservative with their markdowns. There are still some good deals to be had but beware, some neighborhood boutiques actually have better prices. Here are the details:

Bottega Veneta:
All ready-to-wear is an additional 50% off for the long weekend. Some reject bags are also 50% off but most leather accessories are priced better at the Fifth Avenue boutique, which publicly starts their 50% off sale Friday.

All ready-to-wear is an additional 50% off. Bags and shoes are temporarily reduced 10%, 25% or 40% off for the weekend. The racks look pretty well picked over. Die-hard Chloe fans will fair much better buying this season's clothing on sale at the boutique.

The additional temporary markdown is 40% off fall/winter '08 ready-to-wear. There is a small collection of clothing from spring/summer '08 that's 75% off but there is a reason why it's all still there...

Dolce & Gabbana:
This is the store to hit if you're looking for an old fashioned good deal. Almost everything in the store is an additional 65% off for the weekend. We found lots of summer '08 clothing, including bathing suits and D&G dresses thet were priced under the $200 mark. Lots of Dolce & Gabbana collection pieces that started at $2000+ are about $250 to $350. That's a good deal, even in my book.

For the weekend, Fendi is offering an additional 50% to 60% off already reduced merchandise. Everything is priced as marked. Most items are about $399 from about $2000-ish. There is a small rack of items that's $199 and another rack of $99 items, which included lots of basic sweaters and black skirts. Shoes are an extra 60% to 75% off. Black high boots, which started at $1000 are now $380, black booties are $247.

Giuseppe Zanotti:
Most of the selection is 75% off the originally price. We found a pair of classic flats with a jeweled toe ring for just $142. They are currently at Saks for $346 reduced from $495. There are some great deals here but sizes are a bit scattered. A pair of rhinestone encrusted shoes started at $1000 and are $250 but there are only size 7s and 10s.

The markdown that happened in February is the only markdown in the store and there were be no additional discounts for Memorial weekend. The best deals were from last year's spring collection were we found a $600 Caribbean blue Miu Miu skirt reduced to $150. The sales manager did inform us that on Friday morning they will be rolling out a rack of samples and damaged clothing. This rack alone might be worth the hour drive. Click here to see what samples we found out our last Prada Outlet trip.

Shoes and handbags are an additional 20% off for the holiday weekend and ready-to-wear is an additional 40% off. We didn't find any outstanding clothing below the four-digit mark but did come across a mini Uptown purse that comes out to $800 from $2100. Those platform shoes from last spring, which are treaded like a stock car's wheels are now $300 from $1055 and a very cute raffia Tribute tote now comes out to just $320.

Coming Soon: MadSpy TV

Markdowns at Gucci, Bottega and More

Many stores along the Avenue have already started steep discounts ranging from 40% to 50% off. Those who haven't are lowering prices this week. Here's the scoop:

Bottega Veneta:
We got an excited phone call filling us in about the sale that starts Friday. Presale is underway. Sounds like everything is 50% off. Yes, that includes bags. This type of markdown is unheard of for the Fifth Avenue boutique. Too bad their color-way was a big bore this season.
Tatiana 212-371-5511

The double G semi-annual sale starts June 1st. Presale officially starts Friday but go ahead and make your selections now if you haven't done so already. The discount ranges from 30% to 50% off.
Nora 212-717-2619

The fine linens company has reduced prices 50% at their Madison Avenue boutique. Spring bedding and accessories are all half-off. What's interesting is that Frette's website is hosting an outlet sale until June 8th where items are 60% off. A classic robe was $275 and is now $110, a $2000 velvet throw is now $800 and a classic white duvet was $350 and is now $140.

The boutique is just two blocks up from their old location but somehow it still doesn't feel the same. The store itself is in a major need of a face lift but lets get back to the sale. Presale starts Friday for a 40% discount, not that anything looks very appealing.

Scoop vs Intermix

The war of the boutiques is on. Both Scoop and Intermix are hosting designer 40% off sales that start Wednesday. We aren't sure about what designers are included in the Scoop sale but Intermix ran the same promo last week and the discounted designers included Matthew Williamson, Missoni, Chloe, Balmain and on and on.

We think 40% is a good start but we'll let these boutiques price war a bit longer before we start pulling out our wallets. Isn't capitalism great?

Children's Showroom Sale

The children's showrooms at 131 West 33rd Street are at it again. Petit Bateau, Magia Imports (Simonetta, Cavalli, Il Gufo and Armani Jr. etc) and Groupe Zannier (Kenzo, Cantimini, Tartine et Chocolat, Floriane etc) are all hosting sales with amazing discounts. As with most great sample sales there are also major lines. Some of the 100 plus people waiting to get into Zannier waited on 33rd St. for more than two hours.

The wait was worth the time and patience. Floriane dresses that retail for $100 to $170 are all $25, sweaters that retail for about $85 are all $20, and skirts there are normally about $100 are $20. IKKS, Cantimini, and Jean Bourget, dresses are all $20, shirts are $10 and winter coats are $40. There's so much merchandise there that it's better if you plan to go later in the day when there's usually no line.

Our next stop was Petit Bateau, where everything was priced at about $20, There were lots of kid's pajamas and boxed shirts, which range retail for $45 to $75 and are now $20. Blouses and shirts are $15 at the showroom and scarves are just $5. More shipments are coming in daily so make sure to ask a sales person if you don't see what you want.

Finally we ended our shopping journey at Magia where they sliced prices a bit from where they were two weeks ago. Everything is now 50% to 50% off wholesale prices. We found gorgeous Simonetta dresses that retail for $700 were reduced to $180. A baby Il Gufo stretchy retails for $32 and now $7 at the sale.

The sale runs until Friday at all the above showrooms. If you love European kids clothing and hate the prices this is a sale not to miss. More details below:

Children's Sample Sales
Where: 131 West 33rd Street, (between 6th and 7th)
Groupe Zannier (10th Floor) Magia (8th Floor), Petit Bateau (8th Floor)
When: Through Friday, May 22nd
Hours: Mon-Thurs: 10am-4pm; Friday: 10am-2pm
Payment: All showrooms are cash only.

Rene Caovilla 70% Off

Earlier this week we Twittered upon a new site we love, Luxurate. Not only are there posts about beautiful shoes but there's also great sale information. Our jaws dropped to the floor when we saw a post about Rene Caovilla shoes at 70% off. That's right, 70% off. The sale is at the Rene Caovilla store in Palm Beach but is also online.

One pair of gold jewel encrusted high heels were $1195 and are now $358. Still not pocket change but enough discount to have us feeling for our wallets. Intertwined crystal motif flats were $1250 and are now $375 and a pair of red satin spiral sandals with crystals were are $289 from $955.

Luxurate also has sale information on the Manolo Boutique in Vagas. Before you get all pumped to head to 54th know that the stores do not have the same owner and NY will not go on sale until summer.

Henri Bendel Castoffs

Earlier this month, the 114-year-old luxury department store, Henri Bendel, announced that it will stop selling clothing and focus instead on its accessories and cosmetics. That's a lot of clothing to hit the discount market and we know where it's going...

In the East Village, there is Gabay's Outlet, a small designer discount store we like to think of as Century 21 lite. The store gets major close-outs from Bergdorfs and-- you got it-- Henry Bendel. Most shoes, bags, clothing and accessories at Gabay's are priced at 50% to 80% off retail. Expect to find lots of Chanel, Manolo, and Jimmy Choos shoes, in addition to YSL and and Oscar de la Renta clothing. There is also lots of great men's lables, including Etro and Davide Cenci.

We were speaking with the owner today and found out that our East Village secret had first pick Henri Bendel's luxury castoffs. The shipment is expected to hit the store later this week and should include some great clothing.

The rest of the merchandise, we're told, is heading to TJ Maxx.

Gabay's Outlet
225 First Avenue (between 13th and 14th)

Dior Private Sale

Dior has quietly gone on sale. The markdown is 50% off. If you don't see signs don't be afraid to ask.

Speaking of Dior and Galliiano, we hear that Johnny is poised to start showing at the haute couture shows under his on label, in addition to Dior. His muse is set to be a super model with a cracked cell phone.

Madison Avenue Sale Update

We are slowly working our way down the Avenue. Many stores still have not started a markdown but every store is willing to help you pre-shop sale time.

We are also finding that several of our favorite sales associates have been let go or are no longer at their respective stores. Creating relationships -- especially trusting fashion relationships--is never easy. So when your contact leaves your store experience is bound to change. Below are some examples of changing relationships as well as sale information:

Bottega Veneta:
There's no sale date and no item list, however if you would like to come in and shop the collection they will keep a watchful eye on your selections. We expect ready-to-wear to go straight to 50% off and bags and accessories to markdown 40%.
Tatiana 212-371-5511

Christian Louboutin:
Nothing has been confirmed. We expect this boutique to hold out for a while, after all they have a luxury image to protect.
Erich 212-396-1884

Dolce & Gabbana:
The store is holding a private sale for their premier shoppers. The discount is 40% and if you have a problem drop Lila's name.
Cono 212-249-4100

Maura is no longer there and getting sale information is difficult. After a long conversation we were invited to walk through the store and point out our favorite items so that we can "prepare for the situation." We're not sure what situation we are preparing for exactly but we will be happy for a 50% discount.
Nora 212-717-2619

Jimmy Choo:
Zita is no longer at the Choo box and Jenny told us that they will not be going on sale for "a few months." Don't you know that there's big demand for sandals way into September!? We'll have to check back again.

Posh Sale For Lighthouse International

Every year, Lighthouse International hosts an amazing designer sale. There are vintage cloths, new designer cloths, shoes, jewelry, belts, hats. Basically, if it's fashion it's for sale. Designer donations include, Chanel, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Marni and so on and so forth.

We were offered a peak in the fashion closet today and found an Oscar de la Renta dress for $150, a Matthew Williamson top for $125 (sure beats H&M) and a vintage Victor Costa for $150. We also found Prada, Chanel and Manolo Blahnik shoes priced from $75 to $100. However, the most exciting find was the "Kim Cattrall shoe box." The Sex and the City star donated dozens of some of the most gorgeous shoes imaginable. Inside the box were rhinestone encrusted Giuseppe Zanotti ($200 to $250), black satin Sonia Rykiel pumps with large gems ($300), nude jeweled Valentinos ($250) and Manolos iced with jewels ($400).

YSL Private Sale Begins, Officially

This afternoon I got the following voice mail message:

Hi this is a message for Lila. This is Charles from Yves Saint Laurent. I'm calling you because we are going on sale. So give me a call when you get a chance. The number here is 212-980-2901.

I call back to get the scoop but Charles was with a custmer. So I asked the sales assocaite who answered the phone, "Can you tell me the current markdown."

The associate replies, "There's no markdown. Everything is still full price. We don't go on sale until June."

I respond, "Then why did Charles just leave me a voice mail about a sale."

She answers, "Oh the private sale. I'll have to put you through to Charle's mailbox."

I leave Charles a message and he calls me back a bit later and says, "Oh Lila, would you believe all ready-to-wear is 50% off and shoes and bags are 40% and 50% off."

And that's the way it all goes down in the boiler room of luxury fashion.Oh and just an FYI, markdowns at are already live.

Tune in tomorrow for a transcript of a conversation with Gucci.

Madison Unofficially on Sale

We had an exhausting day of shopping and we didn't even make it half way down the Avenue. Even on a nice day like today the stores were empty. Not a credit card swipe to be found. This being the case we got extra attention and had some time to talk to our favorite sales people. Everyone we spoke to offered us a presale option although sales aren't officially expected to start until 5/15.

We still have a lot more shopping to do on Monday but here's the current sales information update going down from 80th Street:

Missoni: The sale officially started Thursday and the entire spring/summer collection is 40% to 50% off. For the first time ever, bathing suits and spring scarves are included in the sale. Prices of swim suits range from $420 to $620 and are now reduced to $220 to $313.

Crowd control: One other browser
Contact: Spencer 212-517-9339

Intermix: A private sale is going on where all designer clothing is 40% off. Chloe, Stella McCartney, Valentino Red, Matthew Williamson are just some of the collections included in the sale. We were drooling over a $2,700 Williamson caftan, which is now reduced to $1620.

Crowd control: Two other shoppers
Contact: Rachel 212-249-7858

YSL:The sale hasn't started yet but it's expected to break next week. The discount will range from 30% to 40% but a second markdown should come quickly because prices are still too high.

Crowd Control: Zero shoppers
Contact: Michael 212-988-3821

Prada: The sale is slated to start mid-month. Even so, the collection is a disaster. Did we miss something or is there nothing to buy even if under $100?

Crowd Control: Zero shoppers
Contact: Janic 212-327-4200

Chloe: "I'll tell my manager that you're a good customer and we can put this on presale for you." The sale will officially begin next week and the discount "should be 40% to 50%."

Crowd Control: Zero shoppers

F.P. Journe Moves to Madison

With Madison Avenue rents on the decline, vacant shops are attracting a new flock of tenants.

Swiss watchmaker, F.P. Journe is taking over the 800-sq-ft former Graff jewelry store at 721 Madison Ave. between 63rd and 64th streets. While the company has stores in cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong and Geneva, they didn't open their fist US store until December 2009 in Boca Raton, Fla. The Madison Avenue location will be the company's first in New York.

Many real estate experts see F.P. Journe's decision to open the Manhattan flagship as a direct correlation to falling rents. Experts say rents are down about 25% from their highs about 18-months ago when real-estate owners were asking $1000 to $1500 a ft. Asking prices today hover around $700 to $1,200 a foot.

If J.P. Journe is any indication, we will be seeing a lot less banks on Madison and a lot more independent companies.

Saks Private Night 40% Off

The Saks mayhem all started this winter with Private Night. (Don't know what we're talking about click here to get the details.) They started with a 30% discount but then upped it to 40% and then history was made with 70% off sales.

Well, Private Night is upon us again and runs for two days, Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th. We expect the discount to be 40% off but everone from the corporate offices to the sales floor seems unsure on how this whole sales thing is going to take its course.

We hear that the top brass is waiting for Bergdorfs are Barneys to break first. Bergdorfs has a will of steal when it comes to sale season so it's going to have to be Barneys. The only question that remains is if the Private Night discount will turn into a full blown markdown or and at sundown Friday. We imagine that the 40% off will stick around for a while but don't expect any 70% off savings until at least mid-June.

Barry Kieselstein-Cord Sample Sale

When Cece Cord broke away from Barry Kieselstein his brand seemed took a bit of a beating. That being said, the company still has belts, bags and jewelry that are really unique and dazzling.

Finding a good sale on these goods has been nearly impossible but that's all about to change. This week Barry Kieselstein-Cord is hosting a sample sale. Yes, it's Barry Kieselstein's sale and not a sample sale company. So we're expecting it to be good.

We called over and were told that handbags, silver buckles, belt straps and sliver jewelry will be included. Our source said that prices will be 20% to 40% off retail but we have a feeling she was being modest. From the sound of the hesitation in her voice we would say that prices will be 60% to 80% off.

Once the sale starts we will be sure to send a more detailed sale update. Sale details are below:

Thursday, May 7th to Saturday, May 9th
Thursday 12 pm – 7 pm, Friday 8 am - 7 pm and Saturday 9 am – 4 pm

Brooks Brothers 30% Off

If any fashion house is ready for a rebanding it would have to be Brooks Brothers. Just look at the photo below. We think that Martha Stuart would toss a cheese cake at the sight of this picture. Anyone our there think this is chic?

For those of you whose eyes have not swelled with tears, there's a 30% off discount at Brook Brothers until May 11. Notice the fine print, "Discount may not be applied towards... monogramming and personalization." Oh, wouldn't that seersucker suit look even more perfect with white embroidered initials on the breast pocket. UCK!
