Via Spiga Boot Addict

Boots are a crucial part of any fall wardrobe but spending full price on those playful Prada nude and colored leather Mary Jane boots is out of the question. For the meantime you might need an intermediary boot to fill that hole in your wardrobe.

Today, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek into the closet at Via Spiga along with celebrity stylist and resident boot expert, Cristina Ehrlich. In the stylists own words, “you can’t beat the prices at Via Spiga for the style and quality that you get; you can walk out with two pairs instead of one!” And we all know, the more boot varieties in your closet, the better.

Via Spega is offering a wide assortment of suede and leather detailed boots for every occasion starting around $150. An added bonus-- the entire previous collection is up to 70% off and shelves are plentiful. Chunky leopard heels, strappy neutral pumps, and neon wedges are included in the sale and run under $100.

That's a good reason to grab a pair for for these last few weeks of heat and another for the new season ahead. Of course, you'll want to get those Prada Mary Jane high boots too... but not at full price!

Madison Avenue Lululemon

The Upper East Side's most popular workout clothing store, Lululemon Athletica, is opening a second uptown location on Madison and 85th Street. This space was formerly occupied by a very large Banana Republic. No date has been announced for the new store but we think it's safe to make a guesstimate of early-fall.

Designer athletic clothing has become as popular as high priced gyms in this neighborhood. Over the summer Gap opened their stretchy workout pants emporium, Athleta, on Third Avenue and 85th.

Both stores are strategically located near gyms. The new Lululemon is downstairs from a luxe David Barton and Athleta is around the block from Equinox.

Seems as if yoga pants are the new jeans. An American icon in the making? Well, maybe we should hope not.

Saks 25% Off New Fall Collections

Stores may be offering customers the best sales of the season but it's hard not to resist shopping the new fall fashions. Not all hope is lost if the temptation is too strong to resist falling for the looks in the "September issues." This week, Saks Fifth Avenue is offering shoppers 25% off when you spend over $1000.

The promotion runs from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28 and includes fashions from the fourth and fifth floors. Shoes, handbags and accessories are excluded. Collections that are located on these floors are primarily contemporary and diffusion lines like, Marc by Marc Jacobs, See by Chloe, M by Missoni, Milly, Alexander Wang, DVF and Theory.

We suggest taking advantage of this sale as the first promotion of the season, friends and family, is usually just 20% off. Presale for this sale is already underway and DealGirl has taken full advantage. Those who have disconnected for summer vacation will have to wait until October for friends and family.

Madison Avenue Spy Fashion Hunt

Fashion’s Night Out is the world’s biggest shopping event and we couldn’t imagine spending the night anywhere else than the avenue with the world’s best stores. That’s Madison Avenue, of course!

This year, yours truly-- yes, that’s me—is working in conjunction with the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and hosting an incredible Twitter “Fashion Hunt” on Madison Avenue, on September 8. Shoppers can collect amazing prizes and enjoy an exclusive champagne toast at the end of the night.

It’s really easy and lots of fun. All you need to do is select three of the participating retailers and tweet a photo of the designated item to @MadisonAveSpy. Randomly selected participants who complete their three tasks will be directed to a secret Madison Avenue location where they will meet at 9pm. Winners will toast their success and walk away with amazing prizes from assorted Madison Avenue stores.

Fashion Hunt Participating stores to date are listed below with more to come. In the Madison Avenue Spy spirit, no purchase is required. Spot me, Lila Delilah, and tweet my photo, and you’ll receive an extra point. Dreams of Gold

In recent weeks, investors have flocked to gold to hedge against the market’s volatility. But you don’t have to have a background in high finance or flash trading technology to benefit from gold nearing $1800 an ounce.

Divorce Your Jewels’, Missy Schorr says that her gold business is booming. A recent customer recently liquidated his gold collection that he had been accumulating for over 10-years. He would buy all types of gold chain and odds and ends from eBay, yard sales and flea markets.

The man, who is a litigator by day, brought Missy several bags of the precious metal. She tested it all piece-by-piece for authenticity and weighted the bounty, which she describes looking like a rapper’s rope chain ransom. The end result was a six-figure check paid to the order of the litigator.

How is he going to spend the money? It’s anyone’s speculation. Now is the perfect time to collect your unused gold and call Missy to cash it in for your next big purchase. On the flip side, the Divorce Your Jewels store has an array of designer watches that are mint condition. Some pieces retailed for over $28,000 but are reduced to about $7,000. Now that's a discount we like!

Chanel at Daffy's

One of our spies has a keen eye for Daffy's and recently told us that the discounter had received a shipment of merchandise from Hirshleifers. The super luxury boutique is located at the Americna Manhasset mall on Long Island, and carries high-end brands like Chanel, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli and Missoni.

To confirm the information, we hit the Daffy's at East 57th Street. We searched the store with the determination of a Project Runway contestant. Right before we were ready to give up, we spotted the rack, which is located directly outside the lower level women's fitting room.

We were not disappointed. We found oriental theme print Chanel blouses for $430 from a suggested retail price of $1790, a Givenchy wool jacket for $580 from $2450, a Michael Kors full length skirt fit for a ball for $1200 from $6500 and a Rodarte sequined cocktail dress with navy illusion for $600 from $2530. The real show stopper, however, is a tweed coat that we are sure is Chanel. There is no tag and the buttons were removed but the lining and the tailoring are a dead giveaway. The price is $870 from a suggested retail of $3600.

Unfortunately, there are not many pieces of each item. We are told that the merchandise was spread throughout Manhattan stores and we imagine that sizes and assortments will vary. The merchandise is about three years old but most of these items are timeless in design. You can click here to see a full catalog of pictures from our Daffy's trip.

Ladurée Coming Soon

By: L. Evans
The famed French patisserie, Maison Ladurée is set to open their first NYC location by Fashion's Night Out (September 8) on Madison Avenue, next to Celine. The lux pastry boutiques are known for their macarons filled with ganache and have locations across the world from Paris to Bahrain.

The company's pastries are loved by French tourists and locals alike. As one Paris native explained, "It's not just a fantastic pastry but the best pastries ever... and the experience is divine. I can't wait. I can't wait!"

Santoni, the Italian shoemaker, was formerly in the space at 864 Madison Avenue, at 71nd Street. Unfortunately, this location will not serve food but we're sure most customers can make a lunch of napoleons.

Giorgio Armani Fourth Floor Sales

By ManhattanMataHari

While most of the Madison Avenue markdowns have come and gone, the Giorgio Armani boutique is having their collection sale through the end of August. Go straight to the elevator and up to the fourth floor where all the merchandise including accessories and ready-to-wear are discounted 40% off retail.

At a glance it seems the stock is rather limited, but there are multiple sizes and styles in the stock room. This is actually considered a consolidation sale but the discount still doesn't seem to make a large dent on these big ticket items. We immediately spotted a large selection of leather jackets that are perfect for fall with a structured smooth black lambskin starting at $4825. A finely textured thick gray lambskin version is a bit more at $6425 and brown ruched snakeskin jacket was $10,975.

We spotted a lot of pieces from the spring/summer “La Femme Bleue” collection. Interestingly, the sales racks were overwhelmed by blazers, jackets, and dresses. Dresses in summery whites and beiges ruled the racks. Beige dresses ranged from $1525 for a body-conscious knit to a $2775 for a draped number.

After the hectic summer department store and sample sales, the personalized customer service at Giorgio Armani is quite refreshing. It might even help you forget that the discount is only 40% and the final purchase price is still four figures long.

Matthew Williamson Final Markdown

Matthew Williamson has started their final markdown. The 60% discount isn't as good as the customary friends and family sale that was 80% off but we hear promotion has gone the way of the subway token.

The sale ends August 21st and then the merchandise is sent back to Europe. It's likely that the company has more to gain from a refund on custom taxes than the income from continuing to mark down the merchandise.

The new prices are not yet available online but we anticipate that they will be shortly.

Bergdorf Goodman's Men's Clearance Sale

Our new menswear style expert, NYCSkinDr, extends his vast knowledge of high-end menswear and will be writing a regular column where he dishes on sartorial men's savings in New York City and beyond.

As many New Yorkers continue to summer as a verb, those in the city can take advantage of some great menswear deals. Bergdorf Goodman is currently in the middle of their seasonal sale, and many great items still remain. As you enter the men's store, you are greeted by deep purple signs advertising savings up to 60% off original retail pricing.

Some exciting bargains abound in the tie section on the ground level, include many Drakes ties (handmade in London) that are reduced to $69. That's a significant savings from the 125 quid charged by Drakes Online tie store (plus 20 pounds shipping charge to the US). Among these ties are grenadine ties, in solid and rare striped patterns, raw shantung silk slubby ties that are the sort of refinement to a summer outfit that makes a man's neck wear a conversation starter.

On the second floor, classic spring and summer garments are being cleared out in all departments, none better or bigger than the Isaia sport coat sale. The sheer variety of sport coats on sale makes this section the belle of the ball. The best part is that they are traditional enough to be staples for years.

Many pieces are reduced approximately 60% off original retail, although some pieces seem to have been marked down 75%. Bergdorf doesn't like to boast that they slash prices as much as the more commercial department stores, so you might need to look closely at the markdown tags to calculate the actual savings on your own. Original retail on these Isaia pieces ranged from $2000 to $4000 and are now discounted to $500 to $800.

Fortunately since many New Yorkers are still on vacation, you'll have an unencumbered shopping experience and get great deals before the stock gets whisked away to Neiman Marcus Last Call outlets.

Madison Avenue Movers

While you've been swimming, sunning and sailing, Madison Avenue boutiques have been shifting and renovating. Last week, The Feast published a wonderful series on what's new, what's out and what's renewing.

To break it down, Torneau and Joie opened. Tory Burch, Calypso St. Barth, Alain Mikli and Celine are opening. Roberto Cavalli, Solange Azagury-Partridge, Peter Elliot, Theory and Devi Kroell are renovating. Vilebrequin moved. The Bank of New York building was purchased by Marc Jacobs Inc.

You can bet there are lot more transitions come and we'll be scoping it out all month long.

Alexander Wang Sale Review

The famous Erin Jeen gives us a first hand account of the Alexander Wang sample sale: You can continue to follow Erin's shopping exploits on Twitter @ErinJeen.

I couldn't be more excited waking up this morning. I decided to get up bright and early--9:30am--to head down to SoHo and prepare for hours in line, with hopes of snagging some amazing deals. The sale is known to be epic, with deals ranging up to 90% off. The sale was not supposed to be open to the public until 3pm today. To my surprise I waltzed right in the sale.

I headed straight downstairs for the bags. There were three maroon Darcy bags going for $350. I was quite tempted but I've been saving for a Celine Luggage Tote!. There were a few Brendas going for $300 and Jade Trunk wristlets in white for $250. This was quite the bag selection considering the lack of nice bags at past sales. I was even more amazed at the plentiful assortment of shoes ranging from $170 to $300 and they had more than one size of each, unlike at past sales.

While i was sorting through the women's selections, my boyfriend was canvasing the menswear section. T by Alexander Wang items started at $35. He really made out-- scoring shirts, sweatpants and a pair of cargo shorts for $225. Men, this sale definitely a go! There were leather paneled varsity jackets, but they were a bit pricey.

I then found myself over 15 pieces in hand: a pair of leather shorts screamed at me, and for $200 I couldn't resist. There was a nice amount of leather vests and leather blazers for $240 and $350 respectively. One thing you can always say about this sale is that they have quite the stock. Girls are on hand in the fitting rooms and willing to check in the back to see if your size is available. RTW ranged from $60 to $260, with most items from $120 to $200. They have complete looks on hand, so review the runway before you shop.

I completed my journey in the T by Alexander Wang section with prices of either $35, $60 or $100, most being $60. There are adorable long black and grey maxi dresses for $60. I spotted lots of shorts going for $60, some were silk. I was disappointed in the lack of basic tees and tanks.

The sale is AWESOME, but also notorious for crazy markdowns. My advice is to go now if you want a bag or shoes, and maybe hold off on the more expensive ready-to-wear. Also, the lines right now are ridiculous.

Gap Friends & Family

Gap has so many sales it makes you want to kick yourself when you make a full price purchase. It's much better to anticipate your future needs and shop during a good promotion.

Speaking of good Gap promotions, the company is offering customers 30% off for friends and family. The sale runs from Thursday, August 4 through Sunday, August 7th.

Looking for ideas on what to buy? Madison Avenue prep-school moms swear by the uniform basics. We often proselytize about the 1969 jeans collection and have given up all other brands. Perhaps throw out all your socks and start fresh. After all, you know those mates weren't showing up anyway.

Alexander Wang Sample Sale

It's officially August, which means the Alexander Wang sample sale is under way. The sale officially starts this week but if past experience is indicative of future discounts we know that the shopping will be great.

The sale always begins with press and employee shopping and opens to the public in the mid-afternoon. That means that the chances of finding a $300 Darcy or $250 Rocco are quite slim. If you really want to catch the good stuff we suggest going early. We will let the definition of early remain vague.

If you can't make it to the sale at the "start" we suggest you set your attention to the "real" samples, which have been found for as little as $10 and basics from T by Alexander Wang that have started at $20. Dresses from the designer collection started at $140.

At the last sale, the promotional materials touted prices up to 80% off. This season, the flier says prices will be up to 70% off. That slight change may indicated that the discount might not be as good as prior seasons. At least, you can always depend on the price cut that comes as the sale progresses.
