Where to Shop After Christmas

We apologize in advance but we are going to take off for the rest of the year. We wouldn't want to leave you hanging so we put together a list of sales you're not going to want to miss.

In the meantime, you can always email us with your inside shopping tips. If we can find a reliable network we'll be sure to pass on the information along with your unique spy name. Happy Holidays, Healthy New Year!

1. Saks Fifth Avenue
Starting Thursday morning, Saks will be enticing shoppers with an additional 50% off from 8am until noon for a total savings of up to 70% off. After the clock strikes noon the additional savings drops to just 40% off sale items. So set your alarm clocks or presale Monday and Tuesday.

2. Net-a-Porter
Luxury e-tailer, Net-a-Porter, already started their second markdown where some items are reduced up to 70% off. Starting Wednesday evening/ Thursday morning, you will notice that a lot more items will be reduced to that 70% off mark. Of course, you can wait for this merchandise to hit TheOutNet, but why wait?

3. Manolo Blahnik
The Manolo Blahnik usually starts their first markdown immediately after New Years. The discount is normally 33% off but if you can wait three weeks, prices are slashed to 50%. Then right when you think your winter blues can't get any worse, Manolo starts their February clearance sale where shoes are discounted up to 75% off.

4. Ralph Lauren
When Ralph Lauren slashes up to 70% off we've been known to raid the Rhinelander Mansion for cashmere sweaters for ourselves. The best part is that most of the leftover men's stock  is a size xs, which is just perfect for us. Just be careful, prices in the store don't always match up online. So bring your iPad, so that you can price compare.

5. Barneys New York Holiday with Jay Z
Barneys special holiday store was a huge bust on all accounts--no pun intended. We doubt that many people are going to the Madison Avenue department store to shop the collection, despite the fact that all the proceeds are going to charity. That makes the fate of the $17,000 special design Hublot watch into question, along with this $700 Elder Statesman cashmere ski mask and this Balmian Epaulette tee for $1000. All these items were customized for the collection and we couldn't imagine any discount store wanting to be associated with the messy controversy. Barneys will have no choice but to close out the merchandise quickly. After all, the money has already been spent. That's what we call a lose-lose situation.

Huge Reed Krakoff Bag Sale

Reed Krakoff is hosting a large markdown on their handbags. The discount is about 60% and there are dozens of great styles from which to choose.

While shopping the boutique, we event found a classic black Boxer included in the markdown. The brand's iconic style bag is now $626 from $1490. The more slouchy styled Fighter bag is $710 from $1690, a tri-colored Atlantique $626 from $1490 and a sweet Academy cross body bag is $416 from $990.

Surprisingly, the markdown on shoes and clothing is not as much-- just 40%. In the meantime, we are going to be sure to keep our eye on the alligator printed long sleeve sweater that's still $714 from $1190 and this crewneck sweater dress with leather front skirt that's still $1014 from $1690. We should also talk about these perforated leather booties that are $510 from $850.

Piperlime Closing Out Kids

Piperlime, a division of Gap, is closing their kid's department. Children's shoes are now reduced up to 50% off. Through Thursday night, you can also use the code NEWSTYLES for an extra 30% off.

These toddler New Balance sneakers are $22 from $44 and just $16 with the discount code. Sorel snow boots come to about $32 from $60 and boy's Adidas Orions are about $27 from $52. Beware, sizes are selling out quickly and all sales are final. Sometimes the final sale situation outweighs the price savings-- especially with small kids. Order with care!

What to do When It's: 'Sold Out'

Every season, there are a handful of items that top the list of the world's most fashionable and then sell out. There are waiting lists and black markets. Resellers and bribes. This is fashion and you are only as cool as your last purchase, or some think. This year, some of the hottest items never even make it to the sales floor.

Rather than throwing up your arms in defeat, it's always good to start searching stores that may not be on the average shopper's radar. Below are a few of our favorite shopping destinations for hard-to-find items. If these stores fail, you can also try stores in other mid-tier markets, like Miami, Chicago and Houston.

Our first stop is always Hirshleifers on Long Island at Americana Manhasset. During our last trip the tony boutique had waiting lists for the Chanel No. 5 Plexi Perfume Bottle bag ($9500) and the Boy Chanel Enchained ($5100). The store is also receiving ample shipments of Chanel espadrilles, if you're looking to stock up for the spring. Of course, this season the brand raised the prices by $100. The store also has a large collection of hard to find Chrome Hearts merchandise and hard-to-find Buscemi sneakers.

Coco Pari
The basic Christian Louboutin styles usually aren't hard to find but it can be difficult to get your hands on some specialized styles. In these situations, I always give a call to Coco Pari, in Red Bank, NJ. The store is filled with a huge selection of the red soled shoes. The best part is that from time to time they will even wave a small discount to close the deal. Just be aware, the high school sales people are a bit stalkish and don't have the most sophisticated style. It's always a good idea to shop there with a critical eye.

Scottsdale Fashion Square
It's not as hip as California but they try. Scottsdale has a large affluent population and great shopping, but trends travel there a bit more slowly. For example, when Celine Luggage Totes were nearly impossible to find in New York, the Barneys at Scottsdale Fashion Square had a selection of almost every color combination. Looking for an Hermes item that shouldn't be too hard to get-- try the Hermes here. There's also the added benefit that cold weather items don't tend to sell very well. The best part of the Mall is that there is almost every store that you would find on Madison Avenue located in one place.

Second Markdown: Saks & Net A Porter

Tis the season of markdowns and shopping. Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-A-Porter both have started their second markdowns. The online retailer, NAP, has reduced prices up to 70% off and the discount at Saks is now up to 60% off. So where are the better deals? Lets take a look.

These days, retailers make a point of trying to keep their merchandise unique so that it's more difficult to price compare. That doesn't mean we can't find lots of apples. For instance, NAP has a great sale on Charlotte Olympia's kitchy bags. Prices are mainly discounted 70%. This Pandora is $277 from $925 and this fruit clutch is $298 from $695. Over at Saks, however, you can find a great assortment of discounted Fendi bags. A patchwork 2Jours is $2023 from $2890 and python and leather Silvana is $2177 from $3110.

Jimmy Choo Amore boots are the same price at Saks and NAP: $556 from $795. Saint Laurent Paris ankle boots, however, are $100 less expensive at NAP, $597 from $995. NAP is also the better location to buy Giuseppe Zanotti's 'Ester' ankle boots. The price is $478 from $1195 and the price at Saks is still $836.

If you're a fan of Reed Krakoff, you might find better savings at Saks. A color block fine wool sweater was originally $1190. Saks has the sweater reduced to $428, while NAP's price is $714. Saks also offers a more significant savings on a metallic print Jil Sander sweater, which was originally priced at $1590. The price at Saks is $572, while the NAP price is $954. That's almost a $200 price difference! Saks also wins on a Christopher Kane print dress that's priced $700 more on NAP.

Both sites are offering free shipping and returns through the holiday season. Saks Fifth Avenue generally has a lot more options than Net-A-Porter but the edit from the online retailer is more focused on a edgier shopper. As always, we always suggest shopping all sites before making a purchase.

Zara Sale Begins Friday

Zara's semi-annual sale will start Friday, December 20. The markdown will range from 10% to 50% off and also be available online. Children's clothing and slow selling women's items are usually found at the deeper discounts, while popular shoe and bag styles are reduced less.

Right now you can find some sale racks in stores and a limited sale section online. For example a women's color block top is $40 from $70, a houndstooth coat is $100 from $179 and a leather bowling-style bag is $70 from $160.

Zara isn't keen on price adjustments but if you want to get the top picks you might be able to buy sale merchandise a day or two before the sale officially starts. As the New Year edges on, Zara will likely take the top markdown to 70%. By this time, however, much of the leftover merchandise is either damaged or undesirable.

Shopping Ideas: ShopBop 75% Off

Those holiday shopping online, can save a bit and still get their packages by Christmas. Starting today, Shopbop is offering customers an extra 20% off all sale items. That means that you can save up to 75% off on your purchases. To access the additional discount, just use the code: EXTRAOFF20.

In light of the holiday season, we searched the site with the thought of filling a holiday shopping list all at once. After all, why shop six sites when you can clean out just one? Above are imagines of our favorite gift ideas for everyone on your list. The sale ends Wednesday at midnight, so we suggest you get clicking now. (Or wait until after Christmas for even deeper discounts.)

While browsing we found a McQ moto jacket with gorilla fur arms, which comes to about about $1100 from $2465. This Vionnet dress with long sleeves is New Year's perfect and comes to $720 from $2260. We found CoSTUME NATIONAL booties that come to about $330 from $920 and Alejandro Ingelmo clutter high-top sneakers for $170 from $525. Kelly Wearstler earrings are about $100 from almost $300 and this Eddie Borgo statement ring is about $110 from $350.

You can scroll through our above lookbook for even more finds. Remember, everything is an extra 20% off. Some itms will be perfect for your sister-in-law, niece, aunt or mom. You might want to even keep something for yourself!

Amuze Gucci Sale Starts at Noon

Even during sale season prices on luxury designer products can still be very high. Finding a true bargain is not a simple task. That's why we were so thrilled to find the new site, Amuze. The online discounter runs weekly flash sales of some of our favorite designers. The best part is the prices, most of which are 80% off retail.

Last week, the site ran a sale of amazing Valentino products. The sale had Rockstud shoes for $275 from $845. Another sale consisted of perfect gifts for both men and women. A men's Brunello Cucinelli sweater was $350 from $1200 and Gucci croc shoes were $395 from $895. In the women's sale there were Tom Ford slingback for $285 from $1114 and a $4290 Valentino dress marked down to $850.

This week, starting Monday at noon, the site will post a sale consisting of fabulous Gucci items. Shoppers can choose from an assortment of the brand's most popular clothing, shoes and bags. All pries are up to 80% off retail. That means that you can afford to indulge your normally jealous sister with a similar pair you bought for yourself.

Seems good? We agree, but there's even a better deal for you. Madison Avenue Spy readers can use the code "bemerry" at checkout and receive $25 off your purchase. Shop quickly because the sale will end on at noon on December 25. All orders submitted by Friday, December 20 will arrive in time for Christmas.

Curent Season Found at Jason Wu's Sample Sale

Despite rain, show and sleet the sample sale must go on. Today, marked the beginning of Jason Wu's first sample sale. Judging from the volume and large selection of merchandise we can easily say, it's about time. This sale is also a good reminder of what it's like to shop a real sample sale, as there are lots of current season merchandise.

Shoppers will find a great selection of current and past season Jason Wu clothing, shoes, bags and accessories. Prices $25 for sunglasses and run up to $1200 for dazzling gowns. Most of the merchandise we spotted ranged from 60% to almost 90% off of retail.

Shoppers will find great deals like this fox fur-trim motorcycle jacket, which is currently on sale at Neiman Marcus for $3252 from $5420. At the sample sale the same jacket was just $650. This black, white and yellow stripped sweaters is just $200 but is currently at Saks for $357 from $595. These whipstitched ankle boots were priced at $150 but are currently on ShopBop for $678 from almost $1700. We even found a few Daphne style bags that were priced at just $300 from a retail price of over $2000. (Above are pictures of items we found at the sample sale that are currently in stores.)

The pricing list also includes day dresses for $550, skirts for $400, blazers for $500 and tops for $250. The most expensive items are the evening gowns, which are priced at $1200. If you're in the market for red carpet attire, we would suggest waiting for markdowns. The sale continues through Tuesday when there are likely to be additional discounts. If you're looking to save about 90% on that fox collard jacket, however, we would suggest hitting the sale right NOW!

eBay Gift Ideas: Hostess, Kids and Art Books

While we love shopping, buying gifts for what feels like every human we've ever met can get overwhelming. Actually, it's mind numbing. How many times can a 6-year-old tell you that the only thing she wants for Christmas is to be on Dance Moms?

Don't worry, I'm not indulgent, delusional or sadistic enough to start tracking down Abby Lee, in Pittsburg. Instead, I shopped eBay and created collections of gift ideas for everyone you can imagine. For my imaginative 7-year-old I found a great spiky backpack, a Lisa Perry dress, a Crayola Marker Airbrush Set and Rainbow loom, of course.

My eBay collections also include gift ideas for a hostess. I was able to find a Faberge crystal champagne bucket (in the case you're invited to St. Barths for the week), a Hermes cashmere throw, a backgammon set and a Missoni/Target espresso set. The collection I curated for the fashionable bookworm has an assortment of wonderful art books from great fashion houses like Dior, Louis Vuitton and Prada.

We all know, eBay has just about everything anyone can want. All you need is a bit of inspiration and guidance. I hope you will take some time to explore the inspiring collections I made and follow MadisonAveSpy on eBay as I create more. #eBayCollection and #FollowItFindIt.

Kirna Zabete 60% Off

The sale at Kirna Zabete, Soho's swankiest multi-brand boutique, is running their semi-annual sale. The site says that discounts are up to 50% off but we found lots of merchandise discounted 60%. Discounts aside, the best part is that KZ has a great assortment of discounted inventory that may not be on sale at all at your local department store.

For the unfamiliar, a quick browse of the Kirna Zabete site will have you falling in love with this downtown gem. Take this Givenchy American Dream Sweatshirt is $962 from $1375 but it's still full price at most department stores.

While browsing, we came upon a collection of Thakoon and Erdem items that are discounted 60%. This Thakoon lace floral top is $396 from $990 and Erdem floral blouse is $445 from $1111. This fabulous Giambattista Valli mink collard coat is $1915 from $4780 along with Proenza Schouler Tiny PS!! $985 from $1645.

The next markdown is usually to 60% but we would try to take advantage of the extra markdowns on the site right now.

Inspiring Holiday Gift Guides

We are in the thick of holiday shopping season and finding the right gift for everyone on our list is never easy. A bit of inspiration is just what the doctor ordered. To spark ideas for great presents, I recently curated several Gift Guide collections on eBay.

All of my collections are based on a real shopping list and gifts that I have purchased or plan on purchasing. One of my collections was inspired by my husband. I included everything from the hottest new tennis racket to my favorite brand of athletic earbuds. (You know, the kind that really stay in your ears when you're running a 6-minute mile.) The collection also includes, a dream novelty watch from de Grisogono and a deco gold lighter from S.T. Dupont Ligne.

In another collection I curated an assortment of items perfect for my 30-something sister, which ranges from a Fendi 2Jours bag to a Beautyblender--the newest must-have cosmetic accessory. A collation of gifts for my 9-year-old daughter's has a vintage lava lamp and knitting machine.

I hope you will take some time to explore the inspiring collections I made and follow MadisonAveSpy on eBay as I create more. #eBayCollection and #FollowItFindIt.

Insider Sale Begins at Christan Louboutin

Missed out on the Christian Louboutin sample sale this season? Fret not, the Madison Avenue (and soho) boutique started their markdown today for "insiders". The discount is a solid 40%, which is a larger savings than most of the department stores. Expect to find an assortment of handbags and fashion shoes (no classic colors or styles) from the Fall/Winter 2013 collection.

If the past is any indication, there will be a long line to get into the boutique and it will be busy. We suggest you avoid this by stopping by the store this week to buy your red-soled wish list since they will not be restocking.

Unfortunately, sales associates were unable to provide details on exactly what will be included, but naturally our spies got the inside info. Our intel suggests there will be some tall boots and popular Daffodils in fashion styles like leopard, rainbow, satin, crepe and pony. While you will be able to find some of the stacked front platforms marked down, the celeb-beloved Highness styles will not be included since they are considered classics. If you are coveting a specific style, we suggest calling ahead to see if it is included prior to making the trip.

Chanel Treasures at Last Call

Early last week we got a tip that there was a nice assortment of Chanel clothing at the Neiman Marcus Last Call, in Jersey Gardens Mall. We didn't believe it at first but also couldn't help ourselves from staying away.

Lo and behold, in the rear of the stor, there is a section of assorted Chanel ready to wear that's marked an additional 30% off. A teal tweed shift dress comes out to about $1600 from a retail price of about $7000. A gold lame dress with pearl detailing is about $3300 from a retail of about $11,000. A classic winter white wool dress is about $1500 from a starting price of $6000 and lace plants are about $612 from over $2000. (You can see a full set of pictures right here.)

Take note, there is just one style of each item. Sizes range from size 36 to 40. The best part, however, is that there is no sales tax on clothing in New Jersey. You can consider that another savings of almost 10% from New York.

If you're outside the New York area, we suggest exploring your local Last Call outlet. We are told that a store in Chicago has full length Chanel tweed coats. The prices there, range from an outlet price of $2000 to $8000 from retail prices of $11000 to $26000. Obviously these are all still very expensive prices but it's Chanel, babe.

Chanel Presale Begins, Louboutin Too

Presale on Chanel merchandise is beginning at major department stores. Clothing, shoes and a small selection of bags will be discounted 40%. Chanel boutiques, however, have not promoted their sale yet to customers.

Nordstrom stores that carry Chanel--Seattle, Portland, Mall of America etc-- are assisting customers already. Closer to home, Saks Fifth Avenue will accept presale purchases on Monday for Chanel. The markdown officially begins on Friday, December 13.

The Louboutin presale will begin Thursday, which is just one day before the actual sale. You can click here to see a election of shoes that we believe will be included in the markdown. Feel free to post any questions in the comment section below.

The Down Low on Department Store Sales

This week, mark the official start of discount season. Almost all designer brands are on the sale list. (Chanel and Louboutin are still the exceptions.) At all of our department stores, fall and winter clothing is discounted 40% off but the prices of shoes and handbags vary greatly.

Take note, some boutiques offer even lower discounts than the department store. For instance, Tom Ford and Prada are both offering customers a 50% savings. Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks. Take note, online discounts are the same as the stores.

Get Shoes at TheOutnet Clearance Sale

TheOutnet is hosting their bi-annual clearance sale and a wide assortment of designer goodies are reduced 85% off. We spent some time browsing through the site and were rather impressed by the great looking shoes that were included in the clearance promotion.

Check out these Pierre Hardy color blocked lace-ups that are $265 from $1325. Rick Owens leather wedge sandals are a steal at $367 from over $1300 and these quirky Charlotte Olympia platforms are $295 from $1475.

The selection outside the show department is a bit light but we did find a striking Erdem velvet print gown for $631 from $3155, an adorable Marni color blocked poplin dress is $170 from $1372 and a Matthew Williamson romper is $159 from $795.

The sale runs for another five days but suggest shopping the sale sooner rather than later. With these types of discounts it's not surprising that merchandise and sizes are going very quickly.

Inside the Yigal Azrouel Sample Sale

Yigal Azrouel has quickly become one of our favorite designers. His clothing is edgy and youthful without looking overdone or overly-sexy. This season's sample sale doesn't start until Tuesday but we couldn't help ourselves from spying a day early-- and we are sure glad we did.

Last year, the sample sale was held at the designer's boutique in Soho but this season shoppers will need to head to the company's showroom, in the garment district, to shop for coveted Yigal and Cut25. Sample prices are the most attractive but there is only one of each item and the best merchandise was being snatched up by employees. We grabbed this Cut25 blouse for $40 from $310 along with an all black version of this jacket for $40 from $495. A Yigal bodycon dress was $60 and the designer's high-end leather skirt was $125. All Yigal samples are $60 and Cut25 samples are $40. Leather Cut25
samples are $90 and Yigal leather samples are $125.

While there is less open stock than last season, there are still lots of great items from which to choose. One of the hottest items was this shearling and leather combo coat that was priced at $500 from $2900. This Yigal Azrouel leather-panel pencil skirt was $150 from $590 and Cut25 sweaters were $100. Yigal blouses and tops are $125 and Cut25 blouses and tops are $100. Full pricing details are in the image to the left. (Click on the picture to enlarge)

In addition to all the women's finds, there are also a few racks of men's clothing.  Today, there were hardly any men shopping but there are bound to be more tomorrow. Women should take note that there is no dressing room. We suggest dressing in sample sale attire or leggings and a tank for optimal modesty. Click here to view more pictures from our sample sale shopping trip.

Most stores have now taken a markdown on their fall and winter merchandise. Finding the best deals, however, is not always the easiest job. In honor of Cyber Monday, many online companies are offering extra shopping incentives to get you surfing and purchasing on their sites. Below are a few of the best designer deals we found:

Moda Operandi
The exclusive online site is known best for their pre-season trunk show sales and just-off-the-runway looks. We happen to like the site's non-preorder boutique best. The merchandise is curated flawlessly and not only from the regular designer suspects.  What's even better, is Moda Operandi is reducing all pre-fall and fall designer merchandise by 40%, starting Monday. Be sure to check out this Kule herringbone coat with fox collar that was $695, the pop-art hand-beaded bag from Sara's Bag that was $980 and Tabitha Simmons floral print pumps that were originally marked $925.

Designer merchandise is discounted 40% off and for Cyber Monday shoppers can save an additional 40% for a total savings of 70% off. A Missoni fit and flare black dress is under $1000 from $2225, Barbara Bui leather skinny pants in ox blood are $480 from $1355 and Surgio Rossi classic leather booties are about $420 from $995. Don't worry if you don't see your additional discount immediately in your shopping cart. The additional 40% comes off once you enter your credit card information in the checkout page.

The international online retailer is blowing out select winter merchandise at 50% off and through Monday shoppers can use the code THANKYOOX and save an additional 15% off. These Giuseppi Zanotti high boots come out to just $336 from $825, this dramatic red Marni cape comes to $587 from $1390 and this adorable Love Moschino tote bag is $67 from $135.

Thanksgiving: Online Sales to Feast On

There's no better way to digest your turkey than to surf the web shopping. Although Black Friday is the most hyped shopping day of the season, it's not known to offer the highest discounts. Below are a few Black Friday sales that are worth your attention.

Now, some of the best fashion merchandise on the web is reduced 50%. Sophia Webster booties are about $300 from $600, a Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch is $462 from $953 and a Barth silk-satin and jacquard coat from The Row is $1975 from $3750.

Although there isn't a Nordstrom on the city (yet) they seem to be offering the best discount on designer shoes and accessories. Saint Laurent Chain Booties are $836 from about $1400, a cross body bag from Alexander Wang is $476 from about $800 and an Alexander McQueen dress is $1430 from $2385.

Tag Heur
The watch brand is hosting an online friends and family sale that runs though Monday. Watches are discounted up to 60% off. You can access the sale by logging onto and using the access key aquaracer2013. A Carrera Calibre 16 Heritage Chronograph with a leather strap is $3000 from $4600, a red-faced Formula 1 Quartz Chronograph is $800 from $1700 and a Aquaracer 500M is $1700 from $3100.

Scoop NYC
Shoppers can save 25% off in store and online. Take note, the only women's exclusions to the markdown are Alaia, Missoni, Jimmy Choo and Chloe. So that means you can apply the discount to Moncler (only in stores). This promotion can also be used on already reduced items. The sale runs though Sunday, December 1st. Online we found this print Helmut Lang print dress that's now $232 from $520 . Stuart Weitzman knee high platform boots are $276 from $610 and these AG corduroy jeans are $74 from about $170.

Valentino, Tom Ford & Gucci 80% Off

The Internet is full of discount shopping destinations but few offer really wonderful designer merchandise at great prices. That is, until the launch of Amuze. This online flash sale site and boutique offers a varsity of merchandise from the most exclusive fashion designers and prices up to 90% off retail.

Lets take a look: Right now, the site is hosting a Valentino sale. Black Rockstud platforms are $275 from $845 and python versions are $425 from $1400. In the boutique section, you will find Tom Ford pumps for $255 from $870, YSL Tribtoos are $315 from almost $800 and a variety of elegant Valentino dresses priced 80% off retail. In addition, the site also includes a variety of handbags, shoes, accessories and clothing from Gucci, Marchesa, Judith Leiber, Chloe and more.

Seems good? We agree. But the deal gets better. For Black Friday, Amuze will add new inventory and items will be priced even better. As a matter of fact, Madison Avenue Spy readers can use the code "givethanks" at checkout and receive $50 off your purchase. The post-Thanksgiving sale beings at 10pm on Thursday night and will run until Monday at noon.

So, gobble ... gobble... gobble and rest assured that this type of of consumption will not add a millimeter to your waiste line.

Presales: Prada, Miu Miu, Tom Ford & Vivier

It's time to unplug the computer and put the Turkey aside. Prada, Miu Miu, Tom Ford and Roger Vivier are all hosting great private sales. All of the boutiques open their discounts to the public after Thanksgiving, but why wait when you have the inside scoop? Details are below. Don't forget to tent the bird.

Clothing and select shoes are discounted 50% off. Seasonal style bags and accessories are discounted 40%. For winter, Prada's bag collection consisted of bowling bags in a variety of materials. One bag looks like a winter puffer jacket, another is a tweed and others jacquard check prints. Prada's ready-to-wear consists of some of the brand's greatest hits and is a true crowd pleaser.
Betty: (212) 327-4200

Miu Miu
The Miu Miu discounts are the same as Prada. Clothing and shoes are 50% off and bags are 40% off. This season's collection was playful with a capital "P." Polka-dotted neckerchiefs, jackets with a double sailor collar and stripy stockings remind us of a true fashion personality.
Larena: (212) 641-2980

Tom Ford
We love Tom Ford and we love his sales. Seasonal merchandise is a straight 50% off. Some of our favorite pieces are the heels with heavy gold zippers and Tom's moto jacket, of course. The sale officially goes public December 2 but presale shoppers can take their merchandise home immediately.
Veronica: (212) 359-0300

Roger Vivier
Select shoes and bags are discounted 30% to 40% off. Unlike most other private sales, this one can be a bit difficult. The company requires that you have purchased an item at full price, at the boutique, before allowing you to participate in the markdown. Sometimes you can find an extra friendly sales person but we wouldn't suggest calling the boutique for an order if you are not a regular customer.

Saint Laurent Presale Starts Now

The presale at Saint Laurent started today. The discount on clothing is 40% and shoes and bags are marked down 30%. The sale goes public on Black Friday but presale shoppers can take their purchases home mow.

Sale shoppers should be quick to grab the seasonal colored Sac de Jour bags. We aren't a big fan of the studded buckle ankle boots but they have been a host seller. We are sure those $5000 moto jackets aren't flying off the shelves but they become a bit more attractive when discounted 40%. But doesn't everything look more attractive when on sale?

Gucci Presale Begins

The presale at Gucci started today. Although the store is taking presale orders you you will not be able to take your purchases home until December 4. Those buying online will will have to wait until that date to have your order shipped.

If you're in need of a tall riding boot we especially like the Eleonora, which is $649 from almost $1300. Take a look at this check flannel dress that's $1097 from $2150 and this floral degrade dress is s is $1279 and $2550.

The Best Department Store Shopping

If you're looking to avoid the large international crowds than this weekend would be the time to begin your holiday shopping, Most department stores have started presales that include most of store's seasonal winter inventory. Generally, Christian Louboutin and Chanel do not allow their merchandise to be discounted until mid-December.

Here's an overview of what you'll find within our local department stores:

The Madison Avenue department store has the best first markdown with clothing, shoes, accessories and handbags all discounted 40%. Among the included reduced items are Prosenza Schouler PS1 bags in several shades, like purple, blue, green and rust. Studded Saint Laurent bags are also part of the discounted inventory, along with a small selection of Givenchy bags, like the HDG Hobo. In the shoe department, you can count on most of the Prada and Miu Miu collection to be discounted along with Chloe and Gucci.
Contact: Kyri 212-833-2088

Bergdorf Goodman (Neiman Marcus):
The discount on designer clothing is 40% off, while shoes are discounted 33% and bags are 30%. Upstairs, on F5 you can already find contemporary clothing reduced up to 65% off, which is more than any other store. While browsing we found lots of amazing deals. For example, this Theory leather shift dress is marked $319 from $919 and J Brand's Super Skinny Metallic Suede Jeans are about $350 from $1000.
Contact: Allison 212-872-8732

Saks Fifth Avenue:
Forget about shopping first markdown. In-the-know Saks customers want to shop the Black Friday sales before, well, Friday. Prices for the shopping extravaganza are usually reduced an extra 50% off of reduced if you can get to the store before noon. We can't say that a sales associate will be able to pull the merchandise from the floor but if you have a good relationship you might be able to have someone "keep an eye" on your most covetable items.

Montblanc Sample Sale

Montblanc's "private" friends and family sale is always a great place to pick up sophisticated gifts without breaking the bank. This sale is usually a reader favorite. Although, it's dubbed private it's not. Period.

Last season shoppers were not happy with the sale. They said there were enormous lines and overcrowding. One Montblanc fan said she made it into the sale at noon all the rollerballs or ball point pens were already sold out.

Those who got to the sale earlier found watches, pens, jewelry, bags and accessories. Most items were 65% off and leather goods were 75% off. All the pens that were under $300 went very quickly-- as illustrated above. A limited selection of watches were more $1000. Cufflinks ranged in price from $100 to $300.

The sale is only two days, starting Monday. There is no restocking and loyal fans turn out in mass for this discount opportunity. Those planning to majorly stock up should be warned that there there is a maximum of 12 pieces or and four watches for each shopper.

Collections for Holiday Shopping Inspiration

At this time of year, it's hard to feel motivated to shop when it's a task listed on your to-do list. We always recommend that you begin your holiday shopping with a bit of inspiration. We recently curated several style-influenced collections on eBay to spark ideas for great gifts (and items for yourself.)

One of our collections is composed of items we envision as It-Girl Must-Haves. We included everything from a hot pink Mulberry Alexa to a white Alaia dress to an Hermes Collier De Chien cuff. In another collection we curated an assortment of our favorite Intoxicating Scents, which ranges from Tom Ford's Black Orchid to Dyptique's Feu de Bois. Perfect Accents is a collection of our favorite belts, hair accessories, gloves charms and jewels.

We hope you will take some time to explore the inspiring collections we made and follow MadisonAveSpy on eBay as we create more. #eBayCollection and #FollowItFindIt.

My eBay Collections were curated as part of my collaboration with eBay.

Presales Starting on Madison

Temperatures are dropping and so are prices. Today, we collected markdown intelligence from Madison Avenue boutiques that are beginning presale and discounts. Take note, some stores can be a bit cagy about their presales. It's best to ask for a particular sales associate or call ahead to see if an appointment is necessary. It's still early in the season for great boutique discounts. So we'll just call this our seasonal amuse bouche. Enjoy!

Presale will begin by appointment on Thursday and the sale officially begins on December 29. Clothing will be discounted 40% and shoes and a few select handbags will be discounted 30%.
Kim 212-717-8220

Dolce & Gabbana
The Monreale inspired collection from Dolce & Gabbana will be discounted 30% to 40% off. The sale officially begins December 1 but presale started yesterday. Accessories and shoes are 40% off, while clothing is discounted 30%. Exclusions include, special pieces and the company's black lace and gowns.
Stephanie 201-951-2597

Presale started today at Lanvin. Clothing and jewelry are discounted 40% and shoes are 30% off. Some styles of ballet flats are included in the markdown but it's hard to generalize about which ones. The sale officially begins November 25.
Molly 646-439-0381

The markdown at Missoni started last week and discounts range from 40% to 50% off. The markdown depends on how much stock they have of an individual item. So, you can assume that the hottest pieces of the season are discounted less. Winter accessories, like hats and gloves are not included in the sale but discounts have been applied to shoes, belts and jewelry.
Sara James 212-517-9339

Proenza Schouler
Presale started at Proenza Schouler for VIP clients (i.e. editors, VIPs and those who have shopped at the story previously). "It's a tight list" but we imagine that a store manager can accommodate serious customers. All others will need to wait until December 5th to shop the discounts. The markdown is 30% off clothing and runway bags.
Emerald 212-585-3200

Presale just began yesterday at Valentino. Clothing and shoes are discounted 40%. This season, there are no bags included in the markdown. The sale will open to the public in December.

Buy Cookware in November

While we've talking about discounts and markdowns on clothing, shoes and accessories, the cookware market has been offering seriously hot deals. Historically, November is the best month in the year to shop for the kitchen and we would be negligent to not, at least, point you to some great places to "game-up" for Thanksgiving.

We love shopping for housewares at both Bloomingdales and Macy's. Although you might get sidetracked by the great fashion, you shouldn't overlook them for your cookware needs. On sale at Bloomies, you will find a Ballarini Rialto 6-piece cooking set for $190 from $390 and a set of four Luigi Bormioli wine glasses are $25 from $35. Macy's has a Cuisinart 7-speed blender for $60 from $100 and a Wusthof Silverpoint 16-piece knife set is $170 from $342. Keep in mind that you can save an additional 25% during Macy's friends and family sale, which is December 3rd through December 9th.

If you're looking to stay further uptown, Sur La Table (1320 Third Avenue @ 75th Street) is offering some really delicious deals. For example, this All Clad 3-quart sauté pan is $99 from $229. Zwilling J.A. Henckels' three-piece knife set is $99 from $265. The Nespresso Essenza and Aeroccino with a milk frother is a favorite for its economic counter-top footprint and the milk frothed can be stored away. This beloved Manhattan gadget is now $100 from $198.

A bit further uptown, William Sonoma (Madison @ 86th Street) is offering similar deals. A Zwilling J.A. Henckels 7-piece knife block set is $320 from $765. A large All-Clad roaster, perfect for Turkey, is $160 from $330. Who needs an immersion blender? (I do!) This one by Abrax is now $75 from $100. You can also save 20% off all table-top with the code TABLETOP.

After spending so much time talking about the knives, gadgets and roasters, we think we deserve a bit of a shopping break. For fashion, of course.

Versace, Moschino and Armani at TJ Maxx

This time of year always has us scrambling for wardrobe updates. Looking great isn't an option when you have work parties and gatherings with friends and family. If you're looking to grab some feel-great/ look-great items for not-so-much than you might want to take a browse through TJ Maxx.

During a trip to Columbus Square, on 99th and Columbus, we found lots of "Runway Collection" items marked down seriously low. For example a cocktail ready DVF beaded dress, with a sexy lace back panel, was reduced to $169 from $300. The retail price on this simply elegant piece was $600. An Armani chalk stripped blazer is reduced to $479 from $800. The retail price on this wardrobe classic was $2000. We also spotted Gucci studded shoes reduced to $289 from $400 with a retail price of $650 and classic brown suede Dior pumps are $360 from $500, with a starting retail of $750. (You can click here for pictures.)

Most of the above items are markdowns from earlier in the season but there are also good deals to be found on newer arrivals. A black and white color blocked Versace dress is $200 from a retail price of $450 and a Stella McCartney velvet tuxedo jacket is $500 from $829. While you're shopping, don't miss the jewelry counter. The brand is Italian-made Ottaviani, and there is a stunning cuff for $50 and Lanvin-like pearl and ribbon earrings for $15.

Heading uptown to the TJ Maxx on Columbus Circle, we found lots of different designer items but not so many markdowns. For example, an elaborate Marc Jacobs skirt with feathers and beading was marked $1000 from $2000, a chunky Love Moschino belted sweater is $249 from $625 and a See By Chloe dress is $150 from $375. Most impressive were new style Saint Laurent platform pumps for $500 from $995.

Those looking to shop for kids gifts can also make out well at both TJ Maxx stores. Uptown we found a playful Betsey Johenson duffel bags that's perfect for sleepovers. It's price is $60 from $120. There is also a great selection of discounted Barbie dolls and accessories. Newly released, "Barbie Look" dolls are $17 from $25 and "Fashionista Barbie" is $13 from $17. Princess & Barbie Popstar houses are $30 from $40.

We agree that it's a bit off color to buy gifts at a discount store but it's a great way to fulfill the "something for me too" urge. And really, we are happy to buy a Barbie anywhere it's discounted.

Target has reduced their Lauren Bush Lauren's FEED collaboration items up to 60%. So, this discount is just a win-win situation.

H&M Opens Times Square Mega Store

f you ask most city kids for their favorite part of the city, most will answer Times Square. Everything there is beyond human proportion, bright, loud and created for fun. The new 40,000-square-foot H&M Times Square is no different. The store is a retail playground with lots of entertaining technology and great views.

The store is scheduled to open at midnight, Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Lady Gaga and the launch of the Isabel Marant collaboration. That's what we call a Times Square entrance. The company is expecting thousands of people to attend the extravaGaga. Unfortunately, she won't be performing but will be shopping with her fans. (Wouldn't you love to know Gaga's favorite H&M items?)

Upon entering the store, shoppers will quickly notice and appreciate this store's use of technology. In place of signage mannequins are fit with LED screens offering additional product information, iPads near the fitting rooms to do online and multi-store product searches and a social media runway where your pics can be beamed to your personal accounts and to street-side monitors. The mega-store also carries all of the company's products, except for home. As a matter of fact, this is the first store that we've seen that has an entire beauty section.

Heading to H&M in Times Square may be out of the way but it's absolutely an entertaining Times Square destination. As a matter of fact, your tween might have more fun here than the nearby wax museum. It might end up being a less expensive way to entertain her too.

Manolo Sample Sale Will Open to the Public

Invited guests were able to begin shopping the Manolo sale at noon today. There were rumors that tomorrow's public shopping day would be canceled but we are told that is not true. Everyone is welcome to shop the sale starting 9am on Thursday, however, stock is expected to be very limited. We are also told that if the crowd gets out of hand, as it did last season, the sale will be closed.

That sounds like a warning to stay clear if shopping the sample sale is any inconvenience. As a matter of fact, early shoppers, today, say the inventory was more limited than usual and that the best selection was for those who wear a size 40.5.

Personally, we prefer shopping the sales in the boutique. Trying on shoes while sitting on leather banquettes and taking our purchases home in boxes is worth the extra money.

Walter Steiger Sale: $175 Shoes

The Walter Steiger sale that started last week continues on and prices are reduced almost ridiculously low. Today we stopped by the sale to find that some pairs of shoes were marked as low as two for $50. This is quite the deal considering that most of the collection had a retail price of about $900.

The selection includes lots of samples in size 37s and 40s and 41s. It appears that many of the styles are part of the Spring 2014 collection with a few styles from the current offering in stores. Our favorite styles are this flame shape cut-outs, which are on preorder at Neiman Marcus for $800 are just $200, these studded d'Orsays were $1400 at Neiman Marcus and reduced to $400 but at the sample sale the price is just $250 and maroon patent leather peep toes are $175 from $800.

The sale will only run through Wednesday. If you're looking for major deals we assure you that this is a great place to go hunting. No rsvp required.

Bloomingdale's Friends & Family Includes Luxury

Bloomingdale's is hosting another friends and family event where customers can save 20% off sale and regularly priced merchandise. This time around, the friends and family discount has a lot fewer exclusions and can be applied towards many luxury designers, including Giuseppe Zanotti and Valentino.

The promotion started online today and will continue in stores and online through Sunday, November 17. Online shoppers can use the code FRIENDS at checkout. The big exclusions are generally leased spaces, Agent Provocateur, Akris Punto, Canada Goose, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs Collection, Moncler, Oscar De La Renta, Ralph Lauren Black Label, Ralph Lauren Collection.

While browsing we found lots of already reduced DVF and Sonia Rykiel, which comes out to about 50% off with the additional discount. In the shoe department you can apply the promotion to Ferragamo, Giuseppe Zanotti and Brian Atwood. Exclusions include, Chanel, Christian Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Prada,  and Ugg.

You can also apply the discount to furniture and the Bloomingdale's home departments. We suggest taking advantage of the promotion for Baccarat items and our personal favorite, Charisma bath towels.

This markdown should at least get you through the start of Chanukah, which is unseasonably early and coincides with Black Friday.
