Intermix 25% Off ANYTHING!

Dying for this season's IT item but just can't stand to pay full price? We know the feeling but we have a plan.  Intermix is hosting a sale where you can get 25% off a single item item. Online shoppers can use the code BDOCT13 at checkout.

The promotion only applies to non-sale items and begins today and runs through the end of the month. There appear to be no exclusions but we wouldn't be surprised if a sales associate snared while ringing you up for a number from Givenchy, Rick Owens, Saint Laurent, Alaia or the like.

Trendsetters will be happy to know that the code can be applied online for Vita Fede, which is turning out to be this season's hottest accessory lines. The code also works on Valentino, which means you can stop procrastinating about getting those RockStud pumps that never seem to make it to markdown. Mulberry and Proenza Schouler bags can also be a worthy use of your quarter-off discount.

Obviously, the best merchandise isn't found online. We would suggest doing a sweep of Intermix stores and knocking off your fall wish list one piece at a time.

New & Preowned Chanel Bag Sale

Sometimes you fall in love with fashion only to realize that your closets aren't big enough to support your addiction. In the case of Hanna Kim's passion for handbags, she made a rule that she needed to sell a bag in order to buy a new one.

If Hanna set her eyes on the newest Chanel, Vuitton or Hermes, she would have to say good-bye to an existing member of her expansive collection. This tactic shortly turned into a business and others were following suit and asking her to sell their bags too.

The business model was great but the experience of buying and selling preowned luxury bags was notably limited. "As a vintage Chanel collector, I found the experience of buying preowned designer bags from online shops and consignment shops to be very different from buying new bags at boutiques," Hanna says. "It did not feel as special as buying a bag at a place like a Chanel boutique. I wanted to create a more personal and luxurious experience that would match the high end bags that I am selling."

This yearning to create an atmosphere for vintage that conveys the experience in a boutique has given birth to A Modern Take's Chanel and Vintage Designer Bag Sale. This season, the sale will take place at the Bowery Hotel from Friday, October 4th through Saturday, October 5th. Shoppers can expect to find a variety of new and preowned Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Celine and more. Chanel prices will start at $800.

We got a preview of some of the bags included in the sale and found it hard to contain ourselves. A very rare dark gray Jumbo Chanel Flap with black hardware is priced at $3000, a limited edition Alexander McQueen Knuckle Clutch is $1800, a Chanel Mini Flap is $1300 and a classic Chanel tote is $1600.

Take note that these types of vintage sales do not happen often. In order to respect hotel guests, shopping is by appointment only. Please e-mail in order to make an appointment and include your name and preferred day and time. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with details of the sale.

Betsey Johnson Jewelry Find

We like to consider ourselves equal opportunity shoppers. We recently stumbled upon Betsey Johnson's jewelry and couldn't believe how enchanted we become of the collection.

Almost everything in the Betsey Johnson jewelry line-up is under $200 and is both playful and stylish. Check out this Paris is Always a Good Idea necklace or these Enchanted Forest Spider Drop Earrings for $40. This Dress Form Multi-Charm necklace for $48 is playful and affordable, which is all of the best of fashion jewelry. Frankly, we aren't as fond as the watches but couldn't you see something like this Paris and Pearl necklace in Lanvin for 10-times the price?

The best part is that everything is an additional 30% off online. All you have to do is enter the code KNOCKOUT at checkout.

C. Wonder Flash Sale

The colorful boutique, C. Wonder is hosting an end-of-summer flash sale where clearance merchandise is dramatically discounted. Check out the inventory soon because the sale only runs until Thursday and items are already selling out.

Be sure to check out these spiked pave studs that look like Vita Fede but cost only $9 from $38. (Hey, junk jewelry is junk jewelry!) Who can't use an extra set of napkin rings? These deco enamel versions are plated with 18k cold and are reduced to $20 for a set of 4 from $58. And, oh yes, there is a signature preppy polo for $46 from $68.

Frankly, don't bother with the standard sale section unless you're shopping for pretty print beach balls. Regardless of sale we are always tempted to overhaul our classic tableware with C. Wonder's great prints.

Sferra & Pratesi Sample Sales

If you're looking to freshen your whites you should take note that there are two upcoming luxury home sales. Starting Wednesday, Sferra will be hosting a sample sale at Chelsea Market where a range of bed linens, towels, pillows and throws will be discounted up to 70% off. Pratesi, on the other hand will start their sale Saturday, October 5 at Soiffer Haskin. The discount is usually up to 75% off.

At the last Sferra sale queen size sheet sets ranged in price from $65 to $170. The more expensive sheets has a retail price of $500. Queen duvets were $160 and kings were $190. Bath towels were priced at $14 and bathrobes were $50. If you're looking to shop we suggest going at the start of the sale because prices usually hold strong but stock can get thin.

Over at the last Pratesi sale comforters were priced at $600 and sheet sets started at $500 (originally $1600). Cashmere blankets were $1400, while wool blankets were priced at about $600.

Both sales offer a significant savings. Choosing how much money you want to spend on dressing your bed is very similar to deciding on a, well, dress budget. The only difference is that you can't stick your bed in a closet when you grow tired of the pattern.

Bloomies Friends & Family

Bloomingdales friends and family will begin Tuesday, October 1 and run through Sunday, October 6. It's been a while sine we've had a good friends and family sale but we're not sure if this sale really counts as good. The discount is 20% but almost all luxury brands and cosmetics are excluded.

Presale will begin this week. Online shoppers can use the code FRIENDS. Don't worry if you miss this sale at Bloomies, there is usually another in November.

Those waiting for the Saks friends and family promotion will need to wait until the third week of October. The discount is the same 20% off and the exclusions are similar.

The IT-it: Sophia Webster

It's a new season and you can't be surprised that there is a new IT shoe designer. British footwear designer, Sophia Webster started as an assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood and debuted her first solo collection just a few seasons ago. The new designer already has huge distribution and can be found in Saks, Net-A-Porter and Nordstrom. As a matter of fact, she just debuted a capsule collection for J. Crew during fashion week. The J. Crew collection will launch spring 2014.

Webster's shoe designs are playful, unique and exude confidence. Her style closely resembles the kitsch of Charlotte Olympia with the sexiness of Alaia. This season we are especially loving the almost completely sold out Riko cutout patent-leather and suede sandals. They are both edgy but feminine. They also play well with the still-going-strong black and white fall trend. These shoes are dress-up ready but we also love how fashion blogger Annebelle Fleur paired them with jeans and a blazer.

Why the Hermès Sale Was a Bust

Now that we are one day into t Hermès sale we can say that the event is officially a bust. There are no bags, no leather goods, no jewelry, no beauty products, no scarves or ties and anything that attracted most shoppers to this high-end sample sale.
We couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the days of great discounts and unbelievable finds. Hermès insiders, who insisted upon anonymity, say that Hermès recently consolidated all of their overstock and past season merchandise in anticipation of reopening their Beverly Hills boutique after a lengthy renovation.

The Beverly Hills Hermès recently renovated their West Coast flagship store. Before reopening, the brand hosted what seems to have been an epic sale. According to LA Racked, the sale included an ample supply of silk scarves, ties, jewelry, enamel bracelets, small leather goods and, would you believe, handbags! (Ladies, there were Medor clutches priced at half off.) That's in addition to the standard ready-to-wear, shoes, hats and gloves.

Obviously, the sale was "pandemonium inside and out." One attendee commented that the customers who shopped this epic sale event more closely resembled Honey Boo Boo's family than the normal tony customer that patronizes the brand. Without saying, VIP customers were able to shop the sale during a very secret presale.

For those wondering if another sale like this will occur our answer is a hopeful yes but just don't expect it will happen at Soiffer Haskin. We hear that the Hermès boutique in Houston will be moving down the street from their currently location at BLVD Place on Post Oak. The move isn't likely to take place until later in 2014 but perhaps brand enthusiasts should consider pitching in to charter a plane from New York.

An Early Look Inside Hermes Sample Sale

Most of us rather wait on a line for discounted Hermes, than a Cronut or Target's new designer collaboration. This season, however, a Cronut or a Target Philip Lim bag would be more satisfying than the Hermes sample sale.

Hermes VIPs were invited to shop today but early indications are that the sale is another bust. Our insider says that the discount event was a complete disappointment. She couldn't even find any style bottle of perfume or horse print plate.

The sale does include a scattering of undesirable gloves, clothing and shoes. Shoes and ready-to-wear are both 50% of retail. That means you can expect to still pay about $1000 for most any item. Most of the clothing was more than two years old.

If you feel compelled to buy anything go for the shoes. Our spies had the best luck there. There are H slides in bright shades of red, blue and patent. The sale also includes a good selection of boots and booties, which are perfect for the fall.

There is just one piece of good news. There was hardly any line today. At the start of the sale there were about 20 people waiting. In prior years we've waited two hours on the VIP day. Later in the afternoon, we hear there was no line at all.

The Best of September

Fashion week is officially over, which means we can turn our attention to the most important part of fashion: Shopping! It's still early in the sample sale season but you might want to mark your calendar for the following upcoming shopping events:

Philip Lim for Target
September 15
Get ready for Lim-mania. Philip Lim's collection for Target dropped today and there are already over 800 of the bags listed on eBay. While the launch wasn't as popular as Missoni, it did grab the attention of style lovers all over the country. The farther away you get from Manhattan the better luck you'll have at snagging the most coveted items. Our favorite local Target location is Jersey City.

Hermes Sample Sale
Shopping for VIPs: September 17
Public Shopping: Wednesday, September 18th through Saturday, September 21st
Soiffer Haskin, 317 W. 33rd Street (off 8th Ave)
The Hermes sample sale [formerly the mother of all sales] is scheduled to start later this week. Press, friend's and top clients of the brand with invitations will are scheduled to begin shopping Tuesday. The sale will officially open to the public on Wednesday. Expect very long lines at the start of the sale and before you invest a lot of time head over to our review of last year's epic Hermes fail. Oops, sale.

Loro Piana
Sunday, September 29th through Thursday, October 3rd
Soiffer Haskin, 317 W. 33rd Street (off 8th Ave)
The premier cashmere brand will be hosting it's semi-annual sample sale. You can expect to find most items discounted at about 50% off retail. At prior sales we found scarves ranging from about $300 to over $1200, cashmere coats for about $1500 and sweaters ranging from $400 to about $2000. So even a half-off discount can be a bit more than some customers want to spend.

Fashion Week Spring 2014: Top Picks

New York Fashion Week is winding down and the tribe will soon begin to make its way through Europe. Before we depart from style coverage, however, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite looks from fashion week. Below is a sampling of the the most playful collections and our favorite collections.

Fashion must not always be serious. Who can resist fashionable irony, sartorial suggestion or an inside joke from your favorite garmento? We loved Ostwald Helgason's motifs that seem inspired by Jeff Koons' balloon sculpture. (Ya think?) Alexander Wang poked fun of the black box parental warning labels currently used on video games and music. Jeremy Scott's colorful collection was irresistible and the his "Earth Sucks" tee is destined to be a editorial showcase.

Once in a while you go to a fashion show and you fall in love. We aren't talking about the love you have for a cute puppy on the street. A great fashion show can be as intoxicating as the perfect first kiss. Prabal Gurung was one of those instances where grace meets fashion forward. We loved the elegance of the collection that was given a twist of modern personalty by way of pastels and acid bright colors. Against many odds Victoria Beckham has made a name for herself among fashion elite. This season she even gained more respect as she turned in her expected body-con focus into a collection that is both crisp and polished. This season Milly caught us off guard. We were expecting a procession of her lady-like Madison Avenue shift dresses but instead got a refreshing dose of goth care of lots of fishnetting.

Fashion Week Spring 2014: Runway Trends III

Our feet are shot and the novelty of celebrity spotting and free cocktails is wearing off but that doesn't mean our fetish for fashion has fleeted. Today, we continue to call out the biggest trends of the season the moment they emerge.

Floral Prints:
May flowers are one of the most anticipated events of the Spring season and designers are embarrassing that love of nature. Grunge (for some odd reason) continues to inspire designers this season and Calla Haynes says her floral prints were inspired by 90s surf culture. Spanish design house, Delpozo combined both floral and plaid from pre-Clueless days, which resulted in an aesthetic much more posh than grunge. At Oscar de la Renta you could practically smell the spring bloom.

The Mullet Silhouette:
Get ready to 'Party in the front, business in the back' your wardrobe. The ape drape is destined dominating fashion this season. While a few fashion critics believe the mullet silhouette is 'Achy-breaky-bad-mistakey' -- we just can't get enough and neither will you. Check out Oscar's version of the Mississippi Mudslide in a dazzling green croc embossed finish. Lisa Perry deviated from her usual a-line look a mullet gown in tennis white. ICB opted for a more casual but ultra chic hi-lo dress in black and white.

Bright Lips:
Throw away your barely there gloss and neutral lip stains because your lips are about to get a jolt of color. Dennis Basso colored puckers a bright red, as did, Suno. Badgley Mischka opted for a bright coral and Thom Browne went with a ghoulish bright lip.

Lila Dishes for Travel & Leisure

Shopping in New York as a tourist is entirely different than shopping as a native. This month Travel + Leisure Magazine writer, Rachel Felder, focused asked some of the city's most seasoned experts about their favorite shopping destinations and navigating sample sales.

Our best advice:
Dress Accordingly- “Don’t wear your Manolo Blahniks to a Blahnik sale,” adds Lila Delilah of website Madison Avenue Spy. “If you take off your shoes to test another pair, someone could think they’re up for grabs.” You can click here to see Rachel's full article, Shop Like a Local: New York City.

Fashion Week Spring 2014: Runway Trends II

Fashion week is going strong and we are fully intoxicated with the thrill Spring 2014. As the shows continue trends continue to emerge. Here are a few more to inspire your wardrobe.

Gold Lamé
Prior season's sequin trends have nothing on the glitter and glamour of the upcoming spring season's metallic fabrics. Opulence is the key in mastering this trend that comes a variety of skirts, dresses and pants. Reem Acra presented a segment of her collection that was sizzling hot. Altuzarra's vision was appeared as liquid gold pouring down the model's body and DVF shimmered glamorously in a mini shift.

Seafoam Green
Tired of 50 Shades of Gray? Fashion has embraced 50 shades of green. Well, maybe it's not 50 but the emerald trend is surely giving way to seafoam green. Carolina Herrera opted to highlight the color of the season in a long slinky gown or you can opt for  Ruffian's seafoam pant suit. Alice + Olivia designer, Stacey Bendet successfully fused preppy and pretty with the pastel hue.

Podiatrists can rejoice knowing that fashionable women everywhere can slip out of their 7-inch torture chambers and look just as chic in pair of flats. Ruffian showed his entire collection, ranging from flirty dresses to casual pants with pointy toe flats. Tibi's minimalistic designs were punctuated by a simple flat sandal. Edun and Helmut Lang opted for a classic Birkenstock-ish style.

Fashion Week Spring 2014: Runway Trends

We are nearly half way through fashion week and it doesn't take long for trends to emerge. Here are three trends that you can expect to see on the street and in pages of your favorite fashion magazines this coming Spring.

Bare Midriffs
This summer abs made their fashion debut for the first time in several decades. Looking forward to spring 2013, the trend is not going away. Here Thakoon paired red patent bra top with a patent leather whit shirt and here Peter Som showed a cropped jacket with a long skirt as a way to show some skin without suggesting a full peep show. Yigal Azrouel paired eye-catching print pants with a geometric bra top. The moral of this trend is that if you're showing off the middle you need to cover up north and south and invest in one of those Abs of Steel videos.

Boxy Silhouette
One of the biggest trends for this fall is oversized coats and you can bet that your investment will carry you over at least through next Spring. Naturally, your winter coat won't work in warmer temperatures but the silhouette translates seamlessly to dresses, vests and tops for summer. Here Suno paired an a-line print jacket with a full skirt, Opening Ceremony opted to layer pieces to exccentuate the shapelessness of the top sweater and Alexander Wang suggested an oversized nightshirt for summer ease.

Black & White
The fastest way to chic in 2014 is black and white. Almost every designer devoted a segment of their collection to a yin-yang combo. Yigal Azrouel used black and white prints to inspire minimalism, here DKNY printed her iconic logo in black and white and if you have legs as long as a giraffe than this DVF black and white jumpsuit is something you just can't live without.

Fendi Comes to Madison

Summer might be unofficially over but we are happy to to see that Fendi's yellow rays of sunshine will soon become a permanent addition to Madison Avenue. The Italian luxury brand will soon be opening in the former Mont Blanc space on Madison at 57th Street.

Fendi's will be leaving its current location at 677 Fifth Ave., between East 53rd and 54th streets. The new space is said to be 5,620 and is likely to open this fall. “Everybody on Fifth wants to be on Madison,” Faith Hope Consolo of Prudential Douglas Elliman told the New York Post. (We've never heard words more true!)

In addition to the boutique's new digs, Fendi will be debuting it's new home store in September. The space will total 11,800 square feet will be entirely devoted to luxury furniture and home accessories. The space is aptly situated in the design district at 153 Madison Ave., at 32nd St.

Aspesi is most popular among men for their down-filled outerwear and down-filled shirts. Keep an eye out for overcoats, shirts, layering vests and nylon sportcoats. All of their items are constructed with a strong emphasis on fabric research and development.

Here is a similar coat version for women that's $493 from $658.
