Ralph Lauren Markdown, Lots of Rickys

Ralph Lauren has started their first full markdown of the season. Right now you can find select merchandise reduced up to 55% off. Designer women's wear, including lots of Ricky styles are discounted 40% off.

Big spenders should direct your attention towards this lavender matte alligator soft Ricky that's now $11,100 from more than $18,000. The same style bag also comes in light blue. Those not wishing to blow a big portion of their child's preschool tuition can opt for a taupe in leather for $1350 from $2500.

For men the discount is also 40% off Purple Label and other designer collections. Most classic polo shirts are discounted 30%. This Big Pony polo is $70 from $98. This Tiger polo is even a better discount and could be snagged for $50 from $98. (Remember, Father's Day is June 21 and this could be the perfect opportunity to plan ahead.)

Kids merchandise is also discounted 40% to 50% off but if you use the code RLKIDS15, you'll save an extra 30% if you spend $150. This varsity jacket comes to $30 from $90. These boys polos come to $16 from $40.

Weekend of Shopping: The Best of Sale

Shopping bags have become the biggest accessory on Madison Avenue. It's sale season-cum-summer and everyone needs to snatch what discounts they can before they take off for the summer, or even worse, items sell out. So what are the hottest sale items tucked away in shopping bags of lavender, black and white?

We will never know for sure but you can scroll through the slideshow above to see some of the most covetable sale items. As always, shoes and handbags are a hot commodity but uptown girls will never underestimate the value of a great dress.

The Same Game: Online Sales

Yesterday, we spent some time taking a closer look at the discounts at our local department stores. Today we are crawling the web, searching for the best deals.

One would think that online price comparisons would be easy but e-tailers purposely make it difficult. Instead of one broad markdown, most online stores individually price items according to their inventory levels. It's almost impossible to nail down a discount at destinations like Shopbop and Net-a-Porter. Generally the discounts at both sites range from 30% to 50% off.

What really throws customers off is the items and designs that designers create exclusively for a particular retailer. For example, we can only find this sunflower and rose floral print Dolce & Gabbana dress on Net-A-Porter-- and it's still not on sale. Then you have stores that discount items that others do not. Kiran Zibete discounted this YSL Sac de Jour to $1650 from $2750 and that practically sold out chevron rainbow Rockstud tote from Valentino is discounted to $1317 from almost $2200.

Take note, that Kerna Zibete seems like the overall winner as it still has a really great selection of designer merchandise and most everything is 40% off.  Below is a comparison chart of Kirna Zabete, M'Oda Operandi and Net-a-Porter.

The Lowdown on the Best Discounts

Almost all of the seasonal merchandise in department stores are on sale. At most of our local shopping destinations, spring and summer clothing is discounted 40% off but the prices of shoes and handbags vary greatly.

Take note, some boutiques are offering even lower discounts than the department stores. For instance, Bottega Veneta and Miu Miu are both offering customers a 50% savings. Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Take note that no stores are discounting Chanel or Louboutin yet. Saks has discounted Valentino rainbow Rock Stud sandals but Barneys hasn't discounted any Valentino. Bergdorfs has marked down rainbow beaded bag and the rainbow dress. If you're looking for Chloe bags and clothing, you're going to find the best selection in Bergdorfs. The Lavender Lady even discounted the popular scalloped ballerina flats.

Here is your discount cheat sheet:

Bottega Veneta Private Sale

Bottega Veneta is hosting a private sale on bags where their best customers were identified and invited to shop discounted bags. The hitch is that you need to be "on the list" to get the bag promotion-- or so they say. The discount is 30% off bags and 50% off clothing and shoes.

The private sale starts on Tuesday, May 25 and runs through Thursday. The sale opens to the public on Friday, but by then there are usually no bags. We are told that the following colors will be included in the markdown: Rosa Shock, Monalisa, New Chartreuse, Banane, Ciel and Flamingo. (You can click here to see photos of the boutique's full stock list.)

If you're having cooperation problems at your local Bottage boutique you can try your hand at a local department store. There is a small selection at Neiman Marcus online and Bergdorf Goodman.

At the boutique there are no charge sends, no transferring of merchandise and no holds. If you don't find what you want at the store, we always suggest a call to the Woodbury outlet.

The Best Memorial Day Sales

Memorial Day may not offer the best discounts but some consider it the warm weather equivalent of Black Friday. Pre-sale has started at many Madison Avenue boutiques and department stores and most retailers will officially begin their markdown next week.

A holiday weekend always translates to celebratory sales. Here are some of the best sales to shop over the long holiday weekend.

The half-yearly sale at Nordstrom is not dead. As a matter of fact it's fully alive and just kicked off today. From now until the end of the month you can save up to 40%. This Alexander Wang bag is about $700 from almost $1100 (35% off), an IRO white leather jacket is $890 from $1480 (40% off) and Sophia Webster t-strap sandals are $415 from $620 (33% off). Take note, that a lot of designer merchandise has not been added to the sale yet but we are sure it will be marked down soon.

All sale and clearance merchandise is an extra 20% off though Monday. Just use the code SPRING20 at checkout. We found a Maje leather jacket with fringe on the arms and back for $570 from $995 and a Moschino dress comes to $400 from $850. Chloe ballet flats are $380 from $645 and an adorable Kate Spade tote with a scalloped edge is $160 from almost $300.

Diane von Furstenberg
There may not have been a DVF sample sale (yet) but that doesn't mean that you can't pick up a few great wardrobe additions. Through the holiday weekend, you can save an extra 30% off sale items. Just use the code SUMMER30 at checkout. Some older pieces top out at 70% off. A gingham shirt dress comes to $200 from $400, a striped knit wrap dress come to $175 from $500 and this lace top is $120 from $270.

J. Crew
You can now save 25% on most anything with the code SUMMERLOVE. The best part of this sale is that many of the co-branded collections like Birkenstocks, Catbird gold jewelry and Point Sur jeans are included. Unfortunately, the Commes des Garcons is not eligible for the discount.

Head over to Shopbop's 70% off section to browse 100s items that were just further reduced. A Viktor & Rolf sleeveless top is reduced to $440 from almost $1470, a Dion Lee top is $225 from $750 and a Yazbukey clutch is $240 from $800.

YSL Presale Starts Friday

If you're looking to grab something that's Hedi Slimane sleek, you will want to head over to your nearest Saint Laurent boutique on Friday.  (If you're leaving town for the holiday weekend, "a manager may be able to help you with you pre-sale on Thursday.") The sale goes public on June 4.

The spring and summer collection is all discounted 40% and shoes and handbags are 30% off. Although the discount may not be stellar, the selection is pretty great. Most of the sale bags-- including Sac de Jours and High Schools-- are in colors like Argento and Indigo. There is one black du Jour but it is studded with stars, which is $2450 from $3500. (You can see pictures of a variety of sale styles, over here.)

In the shoe department most shoes are included in the discount. Holdovers, or classic, styles that return every season are the only styles that are not reduced.

Take note, most of the department stores are offering the same discount. Barney's discount is 40% on shoes and bags and is a better deal if they have the item you desire. Pre-sale just started there but it could be hard to find a cooperative sales person.

3.1 Phillip Lim Sale Draws Huge Crowds

The Phillip Lim sample sale started today and we were lucky enough to scope out the merchandise before doors opened to the public. As a matter of fact, by mid-day the line to get into the sale spanned the entire Avenue to Prince Street.

Those who waited in line were probably happy to find the huge, huge assortment of clothing for both men and women. Those looking for bags and shoes, may not have been as lucky. The selection was small and was going quickly.

The bag selection was obviously the most popular department. The attractive pricing only made customers even more hungry for 31 Hours, Pashlis and clutches. Small bags are $200, mediums are $300 and larges are $450. Clutches are the most attractively priced at just $150 but in order for a bag to be considered a clutch it can't have any strap or evidence of having a strap. Shoppers were a bit unnerved by the lack of consistency in the small-medium-large judging. A few photos of bags are over here but we wouldn't bet that there is much left over after employees got their pre-shop (which came with a large extra discount.)

The shoes was the next most popular section. Actually, we were surprised the footwear wasn't going more quickly considering that everything was just $100. Take note, there was very little inventory of each style and just two racks of samples. We wouldn't be surprised if there aren't many shoes left for shoppers tomorrow. See the shoe selection here.

As for the clothing-- there was a lot. The problem was that it's still a bit pricey for sample sale regulars. All leather jackets are $550 and coats are $400. Cocktail dresses are priced at $400, sweaters are $300 and even tees are $75. Not exactly a huge discount off of retail. You can see lots of photos in the jump.

We are told that merchandise will be restocked throughout the remaining days of the sale. We don't think that includes bags and shoes. Insiders weren't anticipating price cuts but wouldn't count it out either. We will keep you posted.

Lela Rose Lady-Like Sample Sale

Some say it's the woman that makes the clothes, but we believe that Lela Rose's clothing can make most any woman look like a million dollars. Lucky for us, Lela Rose is hosting a sample sale and you don't need to spend a million dollars to look like a lady.

The sample sale started today and includes a large variety of dressy, semi-formal and formal dresses, skirts and tops. Most of the merchandise is from this season and can be found at many retailers. We found this fuchsia full skirt dress with a deep v-neck for $595 from almost $1600. There were lots of these chiffon polka-dot items. A top with a cinched back is $195 from $1200. This more casual cotton shirt dress with a lace hem is $395 from $1200. This lace dress is available in a variety of colors and cuts for $495 from $1600. The sale also included this floral print elbow-sleeve sheath dress and this gown. You can click here to see pictures from inside the sale.

Take note, there is no formal dressing room. The center racks are for try-ons and the parameter racks are for shopping. Changing is done in-between.

Monnalisa Memorial Week Sale

Monnalisa, is one of our favorite Madison Avenue children's clothing stores. The brand is uniquely able to style everyone from the teeny-weeny to the tween in stylish luxury. What's even better is that the boutique is hosting a huge sale where everything from past seasons is 70% off and the current summer collection is discounted 40%.
The sale includes are large assortment of luxurious clothing, shoes and accessories for children from 6-months to 14-years. The promotion begins on Tuesday and runs through Memorial Day.

This season, the Monnalisa brand features floral patterns that rival those of Dolce & Gabanna, lots of tea length skirts and embellished flats. It's all 40% off. Older merchandise is reduced even further to 70% off. One of the brand's stunning puffers from this past winter is now $104 from $349 and is available up to size 4. Shearling embellished boots are $144 from $480 and a suede studded motorcycle-style jacket is $247 from $824. The sale also includes a selection from last summer thats also 70% off. (Click on the jump for pictures.)

Word to the wise, you might want to keep a keen eye when packing the trunk. Much of this fashion is much too nice for camp but that doesn't mean that the little girls won't try to sneak it in.

Madison Avenue Spring Sale Roundup

Memorial Day may not offer the best discounts but some consider it the warm weather equivalent of Black Friday. Pre-sale has started at many Madison Avenue boutiques and most stores will officially begin their markdown next week.

For the uninitiated, pre-sale is when stores allow their top customers to pre-shop the sale collection. Pre-shopping a sale, or “pre-saleing”, usually requires a credit card to hold the merchandise, which is sent or available for pick-up once the sale officially begins. Throughout the coming weeks we will continually bring you the most up-to-date sale coverage from stores all over Manhattan.

Of course, we must start on Madison Avenue:

Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce&Gabbana is kicking off their private sale. The public sale is not scheduled to begin until May 21. Most of the Italian designer’s spring merchandise is 50% off. A nice selection of the popular floral print dresses are included in the markdown down, although they aren’t likely to last once the sale goes public.
Bill: 212-249-4100

Giuseppe Zanotti
While the Giuseppe Zanotti sale will begin their sale Friday, you can start pre-saleing immediately. Expect to find plenty of spring and summer styles for 30% off. Most everything is included except for a few "carryovers" or classic styles. Pre-sale shoppers can take their purchases home immediately and don't need to wait until Friday.
George: 212-650-0455

Hérve Léger
Max Azria’s iconic bandage dresses are about to be 40% off. Normally, the basic styles start at about $800 and go up to about $1200. None of the intricate bathing suits are included in the markdown, but our tan-line free abs will probably thank us for that in the long run. More sales merchandise is expected to come to the Madison Avenue boutique in the coming week.
Alex: 212-794-7124

Head to the Lanvin store to shop pre-sale from the spring and summer collection. Purchases can't officially be rung up until Friday but you can start shopping the 40% markdown on clothing, bags and jewelry. Sneakers and shoes are 30% off. Some classic bag and shoe styles are not included in the seasonal discount. Lanvin usually takes their discount to 50% off in late-June. You can never go wrong grabbing something ruffled.
Leslie: 646-439-0380

Missoni is usually one of the first stores on Madison Avenue to start their markdowns but we hear that the new management team isn't as cooperative when it comes to markdowns. As of now, there is no sale and no pre-sale. We expect that it's coming soon but we wouldn't expect a hard markdown until after the weekend. The discount usually begins at 40% off but excludes swim and many accessories.
D.: 212-517-9339

Prada & Miu Miu
All is mum about sale season at Prada. We are told that sales people will have more information starting on Thursday but we suspect that they already have all the necessary data to begin pre-sale to those inquiring in person. Over at Miu Miu, we were invited to begin our shopping even though the sale doesn't go public until later this week. Clothing and shoes from this season are 50% off and bags are reduced 40%.

Gucci Launches Online Private Sale

Before the weekend, we reported that Gucci is currently hosting their biggest sale ever. After all, there's a new designer in the house and who would want to live with the ex-wife's furnishings?

The private sale has been going on in boutiques and department stores (Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom) but the online private link didn't go live until today.

You can click right here to go directly to the sale. The savings is 50% off everything. We were serious when we said the sale is BIG. The presale runs through May 22. Until then, your purchases will be embargoed. Shipments will commence once the sale is live on Friday.

We all know Gucci hasn't been the most inspiring brand of late, but there are some classic items you might want to consider grabbing while you have this opportunity. For instance, here are Gucci loafers that come to $319 from $640 and this leather point knee-high boot never goes out of style. This floral print dress is museum quality and is a relative steal for $840. (If you don't believe us, see for yourself at the Gucci Museum, in Florence.)

Looking through the sale selection of bags, the Disco style has been very popular over the last few years. The patent black is now reduced to $489 and a bamboo top bag (now $1329) will always define feminine style.

The second markdown usually beings in July. We suspect that all items will go to 70% off.

Gucci Hosts Their Biggest Sale Ever

Gucci is rebranding. Frida Giannini is out. Alessandro Michele is in and he wants nothing to do with the old Gucci. To begin fresh, Gucci is hosting what may turn out to be the biggest sale ever. Right now, shoppers can save 50% on most Gucci items.

Right now, the sale is considered "private" but the sale opens to the "public" on May 18. Unlike most presales, Gucci is allowing customers to take their merchandise at the time of purchase and not wait until the sale officially begins. (They want this stuff, out!)

The sale isn't just occurring at Gucci stores but also includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. Take note, as with many private sales, stores and sales people tend to be cagey. It is part of the culture that we really dislike.

We are told that the sale will begin online next Friday. You can click here to see an assortment of some of the items included in the liquidation sale. Those shopping in Europe should be able to begin presale in the next two weeks.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Here, Kitty Kitty (Charlotte Olympia)

Charlotte Olympia is kicking off the markdown season with a very secret presale that begins Monday. Shoes and bags from this past spring and summer collections will be marked down 50%.

There is a huge assortment of merchandise included in the early-season VIP promotion. Just remember, the store only has one size of each item. You can browse through what's in stores now to get an idea of the assortment. Some of our favorite styles include the rafia kitty slippers (and bag), celebration wedges and this classic platform Dolly pump.

The boutique will not allow any holds. All sale items must be secured by payment and can be retrieved starting Friday. You can click on the jump to see the over 100 items included in the sale. Take note that this is just a cross section of the sale offerings. Yes, it's a lot.

Bonpoint Summer Sample Sale

Bonpoint is the go-to brand for children's luxury clothing, shoes and accessories. And while kids are the go-to ambassadors for destroying most anything, it's still our job to keep them looking civilized. We sometimes dare to even indulge them and teach them to appreciate the value of quality.

Today we were invited to get an early sneak peak of Bonpoint's sample sale before it opens to the public on Wednesday. Loyal boutique and sample sale fans will be pleased to know that everything about this sale (except the season) is almost identical to past season's sales. The discount is a straight 60% off. Sizes range from fresh-out-of-the-oven newborn to I'm-getting-too-old-for-this-look size 12.

Almost all of the merchandise is for the summer season, along with some bulkier sweaters and pullovers. Personally, we always favor the winter sale for the luscious coats and beautiful boots. Everything about Summer requires less formality and doesn't require the same variety of luxe clothing.

One of the differentials of this year's sale is that there was a lot of size 2s. There was also a large assortment of newborn, which always goes quickly. Expect to find the classics, like button down shirts and huge selection of girls sandals in a lot of sizes.

Recently, we've noticed that Bonpoint is mixing in a few trends with their classics. For example there were a lot of chambray shirts, for both boys any girls, mixed in with the more traditional colors. There was also a wonderful array of tulle skirts for the little gals. (Trend blazing.) Click here to see some pictures from inside.

Bonpoint Sample Sale
Wednesday, May 13th through Thursday, May 14th

Tourneau Customer Appreciation Sale

Tourneau is hosting a 'customer appreciation sale' where an assortment of watches will be discounted 30% to 70% off through the weekend. We are told that participating brands will include JeanRichard, Audemars Piguet, H. Moser & Cie, MB&F, Dior, Girard Perregaux, Burberry, Gucci, TechnoMarine, and more.

Ya see, the 'and more' is what's making us pause. Perhaps what isn't being said is more than what is being said. Urban legend has it that Tourneau hosts a very exclusive sample sale--or in this case, 'a clean out the vault sale-- where the most covetable watch brands are available at unheard of prices. (Ahem, Rolex, Cartier and Hublot.) It's hard to say if this promotion will include the watch brands we all want most but it may be worth further investigation.

Some confirmed items that will be included in the sale are a a JeanRichard Aeroscope Black Dial reduced to $1500 from $3100, a $300,000 one-of-a-kind Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Minute Repeater and a Dior Women's Christal Diamond Black Dial Watch for $1900 from $4250.

Nancy Gonzalez VIP Sale

Nancy Gonzalez is hosting her semi-annual sample sale where her famous exotic skin bags will be significantly reduced. The sale doesn't open to the public until Monday, May 18 but Madison Avenue Spy readers have been invited a day early to shop the Sunday VIP pre-sale.

Shoppers can attend the Sunday pre-sale early by giving a $36 donation (or more), which will go to New York Cancer Center. All contributions are matched by Shelly & Renee. Please email us here if you would like to attend. Space is limited. There will be a guest list at the door on Sunday but the remaining dates are open to the general public without giving a donation.

The public days of this sale are always very popular and can be quite chaotic. As a matter of fact, every season the sale completely sells out.  What would you expect when in-season merchandise is reduced 60% to 70% off? We suggest that serious Nancy Gonzalez shoppers should take advantage of this pre-shopping opportunity. With prices like these you can get a bag for for a loved one and yourself.

Krakoff Sale Has Krazy Deals

It's always sad when the good brands die too young. Such is the case with Reed Krakoff. The designs were very good, the quality was excellent but the price point was deadly -- literally.

Shoppers who love the Reed Krakoff brand but found the sticker prices too shocking will be very pleased with the designer's going-out-of-business sample sale. Today we got a preview of the event and only wish we had more closet space.

Those who get to the sale early will want to go straight to the handbag section in the back left. There aren't a lot there and the prices are quite attractive. Non-exotic style skin bags start at $100 and top out at $400. These mini-RK40s are $300 and ones missing the shoulder strap and older style minis are just $125. The big sizes, which are available in a few colors are also $300. Flap bags with a chain strap are available in assorted colors and priced at $200. Many clutches are $200. Exotic bags are more relatively much more expensive priced between $500 and $1500, depending on the size. You can see lots of pictures of what's available in the jump but keep in mind there there isn't a lot of stock and they will go quickly.

Serious shoppers will quickly wan to continue towards the back of the room to the samples racks. Dresses and jackets are $125 and tops, skirts and pants are all $75. Most of the current summer season collection could be found, along with older merchandise. The only problem that but many of the items are size tiny. Those who are a cupcake bit larger than waif, should still take a serious sort through the racks. We found a few dresses and tops that could accommodate a smallish-medium. Jump to see more.

Once you're done with the sample clothing turn 180-degrees to the sample shoe racks. Shoes are $75 and boots are $100. Just about every shoe from the current selection can be found and some shoes and boots from prior seasons. Again the only problem is that most styles are only available in an 37 or 39. We also found a few 40s and 41s but didn't see any small sizes.

All open stock at the sale is discounted 75% off. There aren't many shoes at all. Most styles have only one or two sizes available and you know those won't last long. There are also lots and lots of open stock clothing. The only problem, which has always been the company's issue, is the insane retail prices. Even at 75% off the ready-to-wear is still not inexpensive.

For example, this leather-paneled mesh skirt is a hefty $1190 and even after the 75% off, comes to $300. Not expensive but not exactly inexpensive. This foil print dress is very beautiful and priced at $2200. After the discount it's $550. Again, a good price but few sample sale shoppers are purchasing $500 dresses in bulk. Click here for lots of pictures.

We found the same mathematical problem comes into play with the jewelry collection. A costume metal cuff or leather bracelet is still not really a steal when reduced to $300 from $1100.

The sale opens Wednesday at 10am and runs for five days. We suggest showing up first thing if you want to grab one of those insanely priced bags or any of the great samples. Otherwise we suggest you sit tight until prices are slashed to 90% off retail.

Asos Sale Edit

Summer is coming quickly and that means it's time for our annual Asos edit. We love Asos for summer because it captures the essence of trends and it's very inexpensive, which makes it perfect for the beach.

Unlike H&M or Zara, Asos isn't exactly the go-to style destination for even the most savvy Bridgehampton-type. The problem is always taking the time to sift through the site. Most of the inventory is best worn by those under 25-years-old but there are a few standout items.

For example, this Kimono sleeve top at $38 is inexpensive enough to replace a tee-shirt and can be worn with anything from a pencil skirt to a pair of jean shorts. Want to try Culottes? Here's a premium pair for just $57 from $120. Oh, and check out this googlie eye bag. It's as cute and playful as a version from Fendi but it's just $29.

The best part of shopping on the site is that it's free to ship back returns. Below is a shopping list of some of our favorite items from the site. Let us know if we missed anything great.

Saks In Bloom and 60% Off

Everyone thinks of touring department store windows at Christmas time but Saks Fifth Avenue created a beauty flower show that may rival those of Santa and his helpers. Saks Glam Gardens are a celebration of spring with the collaboration of the store's beauty and fragrance brands.

The botanical explosion includes more than 100,000 flowers that are displayed along the likes of fragrances from Givenchy, Chloe, Kilian, Jo Malone, Chanel and more. The floral motif extends beyond the windows and blooms inside the store. There are huge arrangements throughout the main level and continues through the upper floors.

The floral event will run through the end of the month and also includes lots of in-store events, like 15 custom beauty stations, perfume bottle monogramming, mother-daughter portraits and a special tea service at the SnAKS cafe. Customers can also receive a hand-tied bouquet of flowers with a purchase of $125 fragrance purchase.

When you're done smelling the roses you're going to want to click over to the contemporary sale that's posted right here. (For some reason it's not available going through the homepage.) Huge Designer Sample Sale

Spending the day running around to different sample sales can be amazingly fun and other times it can be a drain on your day. Imagine if a dozen designers combined all their excess stock into one huge sample sale. Dream no more.

This coming week, more than 12 high-end designers are coming together for a super sample sale that includes incredible fashions from Mary Katrantzou, Derek Lam, Rodarte, Philip Lim, Narcisco Rodrigues, Versace and more. The sale's big headliners include, Pamella Roland and Amelia Toro, which are huge attractions at Barneys. Most of the merchandise is from designer's fall 2014 collections through spring 2015.

Prices will be up to 90% off. For example, a Pamella Roland gown with beads and couture-like detail retails for $9,500 but will be reduced to $440. As a matter of fact, the sale will include several racks of gowns, cocktail dresses and day dresses that will be priced at $440 or two dresses for $790. Amelia Toro's retail prices usually range from $800 to $2600 but will be priced from $150 to $550.

Think of how much you'll save on Uber having to just go to one sale. We suggest you put it towards something new and sparkly.

No Manolos For You (or Louboutins Too)

False alarm: The Manolo Blahnik sale is not today. Turns out the Blahnik sale is next week.

Seems as if team MB didn't appreciate the pre-publicity and is poised to maintain an invite-only policy. For the "first time, the invite came with very specific instructions that it is private only and not to share the information," we were warned. For now, we are putting our chips on May 14 but will keep you posted if new information emerges.

The tale from Christian Louboutin is no different. We have confirmed with the company that the sale is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 14. We were also assured that the invite-only policy will be "strictly enforced."

It's been a sole crushing day for shoe lovers.

Lenny Niemeyer Sale: $30 Swimsuits

Get this: Memorial Day is only 22 days away. We know it's hard but you are not, repeat not, going to roll out in last year's bathing suit ensemble.

Start the season off on the right foot with a fresh new look. After all, don't we deserve it after hibernating for the past seven months? The Lenny Niemeyer sale is precisely the right place to start your beachwear refesher. If you're not familiar with the brand, Lenny Niemeyer makes luxurious beachwear that can be found at Neiman Marcus and Everything But Water.

The sample sale has a wide range of samples and open stock. All of the samples are a size small. In Brazillian swim language that translates to tiny. All of the current season samples are $80. Included in the selection is this Hibiscus print in all types of styles. This one-piece retails for $251 and this print bikini is $80 for the set from $160. In addition to her prints, Lenny Niemeyer is known for her great fitting solids. Most solids and prints from the open stock are about $100. Coverups start at $75 and run to about $185 for a 'swim gown.' Click here for lots of pictures from the sale.

The best deals at the sale are the 2012 and 2013 open stock and samples that are priced at just $30. It just takes a bit of tenacity to search though vaguely marked boxes to find the right size and style. On the bright side the sales staff is very helpful and are willing to help you find the the suite that's perfect for you.

The brand's conference room is the temporary communal changing area. If you're the modest type, we suggest you wear the appropriate undergarments.

If you're unable to make it to the sample sale, we suggest you check out Shopbop. Not all of the pricing is as good as the sale but it's a good alternative if you're not keen to going to SoHo or communal dressing rooms.

Herve Leger 70% Off on Outnet

Sometimes fame is a double edge sword. It's nice to be so widely spread but sometimes the overwhelming reaction to a small sale causes a company to pull a promotion. This was exactly the case a few weeks ago when we uncovered an Herve Leger store closing sale in New Jersey.

If you missed out on the last Herve sale, you might want to check out TheOutnet. The sale officially starts on Tuesday but there are some dresses already online. Right now, there is a cutout bondage dress for $840 from $2800, a deep v-neck with beading is $870 from $2900 and a stretch knit dress is $700 from $2300.

If you're not finding what you want from the Herve Leger selection, we urge you to explore the Alaia assortment. After all, 'he's a very important designer.'

Century 21: Lanvin & Berardi Extra 25% Off

As we still wait for this season's markdowns we thought we would take a field trip to Manhattan's tip and see what we could find at Century 21. Among all the spring and summer designer discounts, shoppers can save an extra 25% off on Lanvin and Antonio Berardi.

In the Lanvin selection we found a classic style dress that comes to $1000 from $4700, a basic shift dress is reduced to $400, an asymmetrical top is $500 from $2260 and a broad stripped suit jacket is $600 from $2800. On the Berardi racks there is a Qbert print blue skirt that is discounted to $200 from $1100, a simple Alaia-type dress is also $200 from $1100 and a red architectural pipped dress is just $280. You can head right this way to see more pictures and prices.

Beyond the Lanvin and Berardi racks there are lots of spring designer merchandise that doesn't have an extra reduction. The Gucci selection is pretty thin on variety but the Missoni, Leonard and Pucci assortment is extensive. (The website has a similar Missoni collection online.) It's too bad that it's so easy to O-D on those prints and weaves. We found a good assortment of Acne including a moto jacket with a combo of pink suede and white leather for $850 from $2900, a print Pilottp dress is $470 from $1180 and a Sonia Rykiel sweater is $290 from $720. You can click here to see more.

It seems as if the spring selection is much smaller than what we found during the winter or it could just be very shopped though. As always, we suggest heading downtown to Century 21. The satellite locations never have as good of a designer variety.

Mother's Day Gift Idea: Flower Pot Cake

When it comes to Mother's Day the most universally accepted gifts are flowers or something sweet. Brooklyn-based Made From Heaven Cakes has created the most unique love-child of our classic favorites. The Flower Pot Cake is one of the most fashionable and delicious statement pieces you can buy mom.

We were recently gifted with one of these botanical treats and displayed the cake where we would normally leave a vase of flowers. Every guest --including a troupe of 4-year-olds-- was tricked and amazed by the creativity and beauty of this confectious creation. Part of the magic is created from the sugar flowers and the "dirt" is crumbled cake.

It was hard to cut open but we are glad we did because the inside was almost as good as the outside. The chocolate cake was light and not overly rich and the buttercream was sweet but not too thick. Lots of other cake and filling options are available.

In addition to their flower cakes, Made From Heave Cakes is well known for their wedding cakes. They have also earned major fashion props with their construction of a Christian Louboutin fashioned cake for Barneys, a cake replica of a Sephora shopping bag for the beauty brand and a Mansur Gavriel bucket back for Elle magazine, among others.

The Mother's Day flower pot cake is $125 and can be shipped anywhere in the country or hand delivered in the New York area. The only remaining question is which gym membership goes best with the cake.
