Inspiring Your Next Vacation (Part 3)

Congratulations, you've survived the season's first blizzard. Even though all the snow almost gone it's never too soon to start making getaway plans. While we love watching the new season's fashion emerge, few things are more thrilling than visiting a brand new luxury hotel.

The fresh linens, plush towels, eager staff and bragging rights are just a few aspects that make visiting a new hotel extra special. Good thing that the luxury boom has lead to a great crop of properties that just opened or are slated to open in 2016.

In a multi-part series we are highlighting some of the most exciting new destinations in the world. Click your mouse this way to read part one and part part two. For more information about these properties or any other travel related assistance email

Amanera (Dominican Republic)

In November, Aman opened their second resort in North America. Amanda overlooks the beautiful Playa Grande beach. It is the first golf-integrated Aman property and is distinguished by having the highest number of oceanside holes in the Western hemisphere.

The resort sits atop 60-foot cliffs and is set between the beach and golf course. It offers dining, spa and recreational facilities and 25 Casitas. Each of the one-bedroomed casitas enjoys unobstructed ocean vistas from an expansive terrace, outdoor seating and lounging area and a private garden. More than half of the Casitas feature their own 32-foot private swimming pools.

I specifically have my eyes set on the two-bedroomed ‘Bay View Casa,’ which has panoramic views of the ocean, Playa Grande beach and a 65-foot infinity swimming pool that stretches across a large terrace. The Casa has a spectacular glass-walled living and dining room that allows for seamless indoor-outdoor living. The common areas overlook the ocean, pool, a lush private garden and twin reflection pools. Rates start at $1400 a night.

Amanemu (Japan)

The Aman group is opening their second hotel in Japen this March. Amanemu is located in Honshu’s Mie Prefecture, which is a two hour high-speed train ride or a 25-minute helicopter ride from Nagoya. The property is on the picturesque shores of Ago Bay that's also known as the ‘Bay of Pearls.’

There will be 24 suites and four two-bedroomed villas --all of which have their own onsen (hot spring). Guests have access to an extensive Aman Spa, a lap pool, restaurant and lounge.

IAmanemu will offer bespoke Aman Journeys, for those looking to seek out the cultural nuances and the finest experiences of the region, such as the UNESCO-protected pilgrimage routes of Kumano Kodō and Ise-Jingū, Japan’s most sacred Shintō shrine. Rates start at $750 a night.

Six Senses Zil Pasyon (Seychelles)

If you're looking for something a little more secluded, you can direct your attention towards the Six Senses Zil Pasyon. This Summer, the luxury hotel group, Six Senses plans to open their newest resort on the one-square-mile private island of Felcite. The property will include 28 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom villas, all with private pools.

Getting to the private island is no less extravagant than the resort itself. Visitors can choose between a 20-minute flight which arrives at the resort’s own jetty helipad or a short boat trip from nearby La Digue and Praslin islands. I'm a always a sucker for a heli.

The spa is a resort highlight: It faces the ocean surrounded by massive granite rock formations and has an extensive menu of treatments and programs. Forget about massages with pre-recorded waves sounds. Here the sounds are live 24/7. Nightly rates from $1,200.

The Ritz (Paris)

Switching gears to another type of paradise-- Paris. After four years of restoration and renovation, The Ritz, Paris is slated to open in March 2016. The €200 million refurbishment includes a top-to-bottom update of rooms, suites, gardens, Bar Hemingway, Ritz Escoffier cooking school and L’Espadon restaurant.

Meeting the modern expectation of luxury is not easy. Each room has reemerged from its neoclassical setting enlarged, updated with the latest technologies and dressed in subtle silks. Some rooms even offer shaded private terraces overlooking the hotel’s magnificent French garden. Each room also has an en-suite bathroom with heated floors.

The most exciting addition is The Ritz Club, which will house a neoclassical swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath and the world’s first – and only – Chanel spa. The brand’s luxurious line of skin-care and beauty products will take center stage inside the palace of beauty..

Coco Chanel declared: “The Ritz is my home.” Now it can be yours too. Despite a reported fire earlier this week, reservations are being accepted starting March 14. Rates start at €900 or $1100 per night.

The IT-It: Cheering on the Pom-Pom

Pom-Poms aren't just for cheerleaders anymore. For Winter, a pom-pom movement quietly started warming up. We found little Fendi monster puffs for our bag and topped our beanie hats with fur balls. That was just the beginning. For Spring, the pom-pom exploding with momentum.

Pom-poms aren't furry for Spring but they are no less cheery and youthful. The trends are shown on a variety of categories ranging from shoes, hats, bags, shoes and clothing. Some of our favorite items are Dolce & Gabbana's pom-pom wrap around sandals, a cream Opening Ceremony sweater, a T-Bags pom-pom dress and the JadeTribe beach bag. You can even get your girls in on the fun with this beach cover-up and swim suit.

You can see all of our top puff-ball items below. Notice that some are already selling out. We suggest you join the team and start cheering with us. Two, four, six, eight, who do we appreciate? Pom-poms, Pom-poms... Yay... Pom-poms!

Tracking Down Discounts on Chanel Shoes

Chanel shoes really got a great markdown this year but finding the style you want, in the size you need-- is never easy. At this time of year, it seems as if Chanel flats fly off the shelves faster than a falcon diving for prey. Good thing we uncovered the discount site Amuze, which is undeniably the best resource for discount Chanel shoes.

Right now, Amuze is hosting a sale where a wide selection of Chanel shoes are discounted about 50% off. Right here, is a pair of beautiful classic short boots that are reduced to $725 from $1325, Camellia cap-toe pumps are $495 from $875 and stretchy leather thigh-high boots are $1495 from $2800.

We couldn't imagine anyone not loving all these discounts. Beyond the Chanel shoes there is a lot more to explore, like Louboutin and great designer handbags. It's also good to know that Amuze allows returns. But shop fast, these deals will disappear as quickly.

Where to Buy Kid's Designer Clothing

For some reason American designers continue to miss the mark when creating clothing lines for children. Gap and Crew Cuts can only take you so far. When we really want to mix it up for the little ones we cruise over to The international site hosts hundreds of designer options all for the under-14 set.

We've been going bonkers for the Sonia Rykiel Enfant. What we like best, however, is the huge winter clearance markdowns. Right now, the site is hosting discounts up to 70% off.

This mini-me Dolce & Gabbana rose dress is $454 from $756, a print Gautier dress is reduced to $153 and Ermanno Scervino Junior moto boots are $98 from $325. Of course there are great items for boys and babies too.

We warn you to be careful. Once you start loading your cart it could start feeling like your shopping for yourself. The big difference is that these little ones will outgrow everything you buy in under a year.

Making the Cold Look Hot

We made it through the first part of Winter unscathed by freezing temperatures and cold weather. This week, everything changed. Nearly thirty inches of snow can do that.

Unfortunately, dressing for the coldest and nastiest of days hasn't brought about the best fashion trends. Uggs and Canada Goose Down are not fashions brightest moments. Cold weather doesn't need to mean you lose yourself in layers of padding. Our best advice is to dress for the weather. The most stylish of heels look ridiculous in the snow and a little bit of color goes a long way when you're bulking up.  New York is grey enough without layers of grey and black.

Below is a selection of our favorite ways to keep warm when the mercury drops below freezing. The best part is that our late winter translates to a deluge of highly discounted cold weather clothing,

Moncler 40% Off at Bergdorf Goodman

Every season we ask sales people about the Moncler markdown and just about everyone responds that Moncler coats and jackets don't go on sale. Then every year we wait and watch. Then poof, the puffers are discounted.

The Moncler markdown started today at Bergdorf Goodman and most of this season's coats and jackets are reduced 50%. A blush color knee-length coat is $1170 from $1955, a more classic black is $975 from $1630 and a basic shiny red jacket is $700 from $1170. You can click here to see pictures.

Online shoppers can head this way to browse through a small selection of discounted Monclers. This jacket with fur trim is $1430 from $2375 and a leopard print puffer $1079 from $1795. If you are shopping for children the assortment is large and discounts are 30%.

We haven't seen Moncler discounts at Barneys, Saks or Bloomingdales just yet. Remember,  they are as sure to come as the impending snow storm. Bundle up!

Intermix End of Season 75% Off

It's no secret that Intermix has had a hard time chugging along since the chain of boutiques was purchased by Gap. We believe that the hardships are related to the quickly shifting retail climate. These days it's harder for those buying smaller amounts to get top picks from designer collections. Most of the big department stores get exclusives on the best items.

Intermix just can't compete on that level. As a matter of fact, it has lost a lot of designer brands like Saint Laurent and Fendi. There are only so many times you can sell the same woman on Rockstuds.

Another huge differentiation among luxury retailers is customer service. Intermix online is a far cry from the customer service offered by Net-A-Porter or inside Bergdorf Goodman. Nonetheless, Intermix is ideally located and always carries what you need regardless of where you are going-- St. Barths, South Hampton or Madison Avenue casual.

The best part of shopping at Intermix right now is that the store has winter merchandise discounted 75% off. The sale is also online. The online selection is okay but misses the better designer options like Pucci, Stella, Proenza, and Barardi.

You can click here to see pictures from our shopping trip. Highlights include, a Peter Pilotto paneled coat for $949 from $3280, a Stella McCartney wild cat print tunic is $299 from $1220 and an Elizabeth & James sequined dress is $199 from $465. The online price of the sequined dress is only $160 after the promotion extra 20% discount.

Among the shoes and bags we found Fendi t-straps for $329, Nicholas Kirkwood pearl platforms for $309 and Chloe scalloped ballet flats for $369. If you're a size 36 or 36.5, you don't want to miss these Rockstud boots that are now about $700 from $2100. This Sara Battaglia bag in a more subdued color is $519 from $1835.

The downside to all these great deals is that all sales are final. If you're not buying something you've worn before it might be a better idea to hit the store.

Shopbop Extra 25% Off (Third Time is the Charm)

For the second third time this year, Shopbop is offering shoppers an extra 25% off sale merchandise. Use the code LUXE25 when checking out to engage the additional discount.

This time around we are going to suggest you focus your attention towards the Versace selection. Prices are reduced 60% and after the promotional code the final discount is about 70% off the original price. Take this knit sweater dress that comes to $688 from $2300. Bold platforms are $470 from $1535. All the Tamara Mellon shoes are less expensive then sample sale prices at about $200 from $700. This lace pair is $210 from $650 and this edgy play on a Mary Jane is just a bit more.

There are also lots of Shopbop staples like jeans and sweaters. Here is pair of Dsquared2 grommet-scattered patch pockets, skinny jeans from R13 and Frame's Le Skinny de Jeannes come to just $80 and the entire size run is available. A 525America oversized knit turtleneck is $120 from $200 and this O'2nd knit is about $80 from $315.

The promotion started today and runs through Thursday, January 21. Just like in 2015, it's all over at the strike of midnight Thursday. That's midnight Pacific Time. East Coast wins again!

Net-A-Porter Final Clearance Extra 20%

This is what end of season shoppers call the final bow. As usual, Net-A-Porter is ending the season with an extra 20% off some sale merchandise.

Enter SALE20 at checkout to engage the promotional savings. Take note, the additional discount can only be used on items that are identified "Sale Must Have." Once you use the extra 20% discount it also makes the item final sale, which means it can't be returned.

On the bright side, we were able to use the code on some of the most iconic pieces of the season. Here's a great Dolce & Gabbana rose print dress that goes to $2600 from $4600, a Bottega Veneta polka-dot coat is about $1900 from nearly $6000 and a white ruffle Lanvin dress is about $2000 from $5800.

There is a great assortment of Miu Miu coats and shoes that we pulled that are about 60% to 70% off after the additional discount. There is also an assortment of Fendi clothing and shoes. Among the less expensive items is a Fendi sweater that goes down to $520 from $1300.

Taking a look through the shoe department, um section, we found Saint Laurent Tribs for Aquazzura over-the-knees both for about $480 from $1000. Stella McCartney hybrid loafers/sneakers/platforms are $170 from $525.

This sale usually lasts only two days. We suggest you snatch up what you can because the next time you see this selection it will be priced higher on the Outnet.

Ralph Lauren Now 70% Off

Ralph Lauren started their winter clearance sale and merchandise is now an extra 20% off the general discount of 60%. That brings the grand total of the discount to nearly 70% off. Use the code WINTER20 to access the promotional discount.

This wool and suede dress is about $1000 from nearly $3000, a canary yellow jacket is $960 from $3000 and a velvet mini-Ricky is $629 from $1950. Be sure to check out the ski clothing. It's not as reduced but it's worth keeping a close eye out. It might actually snow this winter.

Then there is always the mandatory Polo shirts for men and women. After applying the discount, prices start at about $33 from $100 for a woman's polo or $40 for the men's versions.

The extra discount promotion started over the weekend and ends on Tuesday. In most cases, the Ralph Lauren boutique will match the online prices but you will need to wait for a manager's authorization. In this instance it might just be easier to shop online.

This isn't the biggest discount for the Americana-designer but it is that time of year where you can find the best sale selection for the greatest discount. We just noticed that a lot of the best items are starting to sell out. If you wait too long you might miss the boat.

Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Extra 20% Off

Through the holiday weekend Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman are offering customers an extra 20% off merchandise that has already been discounted 75%. If you're shopping online you must use this VIP link to access the additional discount.

Head this way and you'll find am Emilio Pucci black and white beaded dress comes to about $1900 from $7000, the Dolce & Gabbana doodle dress is $1300 from $4000 and a Balmain floral print dress is $1200 from $4400. There is even a small selection of Canada Goose and Bogner jackets on on sale. Among the Contemporary designers there is a short Milly dress that's $120 from $500 and an IRO sweater is $140 from $350.

Be sure to check out the shoe selection. There are Fendi boots for $560 from $1400, Velentino ankle boots are $550 from $1375, Givenchy sneakers are $320 from $900 and Charlotte Olympia kitty pumps are $277 from $700.

The sale continues until Tuesday at 9am. After that, it's probably time to start lusting after full price spring fashions.

Almost as noteworthy, that the Lavender Lady is also hosting a beauty event. When you spend $250, you will be given a tote filled with dozens of deluxe size samples, including Sulwhsoo, Hourglass, YSL and La Mer. Some products we currently love are the Tom Ford lipstick trio, Charlotte Tilbury skincare trio and Hourglass liquid lipstick. The gift bag promotion runs through January 31.

Bloomingdales: Extra Discounts and 60% Off Chanel

We always find shopping at Bloomingdales very difficult. The stacked incentives, points structure, and disorganized merchandise can make it a grueling task. What keeps us timidly coming back is the unexpected price cuts.

Today we went in search of filling a Big Brown Bag and are happy we did. Chanel shoes have been discounted 60% and there is still a good selection and size range from which to choose. Two-tone booties come to about $530 from $1325, simple navy pumps are $320 from $795 and ridiculous tweed platform creepers are about $400 from $1075. You can click here to see pictures.

A lot of the designer clothing still isn't reduced enough for notable mentions but there is a rack of Sonia Rykiel clothing that's an extra 40% off. A top with oversized safety pins is $120 from $340 and a sweater with stars is $288 from $480. Not too far away are racks of Herve Leger reduced 60%.

Heading down to the second floor, we suggest keeping an eye out for merchandise with Extra 40% off signs. Among the Rebbecca Taylor section we found a shearing vest for $300 from $1000 and a lace dress for $154 from $425. If you're in the area, you should mosey over to the Reiss section where several racks of clothing are discounted 70% and more. A simple blue dress is $103 from $340, a leather dress with embellishments is $338 from $845 and nude pumps are $84 from $265. Take note, online prices are sometimes higher than what we found in the store. Just another annoying part of shopping at Bloomies.

Upstairs in the kid's department Moncler jackets are discounted 25% but there has been no markdown on women's styles. We expect that discounts are coming soon because the merchandise doesn't seem to be moving.

Curiosities and Furniture at Bergdorf Fixture Sale

It's not often that you find the top brass of Bergdorf Goodman trekking to Long Island City for deals. Today was a grand exception. Apparently it's hard to resist when the 'Lavender Lady' is hosts a three-day sale of its props, visual displays and furniture at Modern Design Market.

This evening we were given early access to the sale along with Bergdorf employees. Inside we found handmade items from window displays, furniture from redesigned store departments and even items never actually used in the store. A paper Lizard from the 2010 Alice and Wonderland window display is $600 and a series of paper Chanel shoes and bag are $50 each, a leather puppy is $299 and a 6-ft wood sculpted bear is $600. Among the more serious furniture is a Christian Liaigre cabinet that is priced at $9000 from a quoted retail price of $42,000.

We were particularly fond of a vintage Olivetti desk that Linda Fargo admitted was purchased for the men's store from a fancy antique store but never used. "It was a big mistake," she lamented after urging the purchase. Less expensive items include, trunks priced between $200 and $300, coffee tables for $250 and chairs for $400 for a set of four. (You can click here to see pictures from our trip.)

We are told that the warehouse space will be continually restocked. If you're not normally comfortable leaving the Island to go shopping we suggest taking a cab/Uber. From the Upper East Side it was about $20 each way. Although we didn't come home with anything it was inspiring to see the fantastic elements that put together our favorite store.

Deep Discounts: Fendi, Dolce, La Perla and Allegri

New York needs a good old fashioned discount store and that's what Luxury 9 brings to midtown. The pop-up carries top-shelf designer brands that are discounted 30% to 90% off retail. On our last trip we found a bounty of Valentino, Celine, Prada and Cuccinelli.

Like all good discount stores, a new week means a new shipment. Today we found a large assortment of Allegri coats all discounted to $295. Most styles retail from between $600 to $1300. Now there is also a selection of clothing for boys and girls in sizes ranging from 3-months to 14-years. A girl's gem embellished white lace dress from Dolce & Gabbana originally retailed for $3975 but is reduced 80%. Thinking ahead for Valentine's Day? There is a nice selection of La Perla boxed robes and pajama sets for $139. (Here are more pictures.)

You can click here to read about the men's and women's finds from our last trip. In addition to the new merchandise, the store was also restocked with key items like two tone Chanel ballet flats and some awesome designer bags. (I was asked not to mention the brands.) We overheard that a big selection of Rockstud shoes and bags are expected soon. Needless to say, this is a discount destination we will continue to stalk.

Net -A-Porter Clearance Sale Begins.

Net-A-Porter started its clearance sale today and many items from this past season are now reduced near rock bottom. The discount ranges widely but we set our eyes on those plentiful 80% reductions.

Here is a Sonia Rykiel sweater that comes to $322 from $1610, a 'Call Me' sweater from Sibling is $111 from $555 and this Mary Katrantzou houndstooth sweater is $400 from $2000. There are also a lot of black-and-white dresses that are highly reduced. Heres one from Antonio Berardi that's $382 from $1910 and another from Victoria Beckham that's $239 from $800.

Among the shoes are fringed high boots from See by Chloe that come out to a mere $140! For $99 we suggest taking these Tabitha Simmons espadrille wedges and saving them for your next vacation or even Summer. At 80% off you can't take a pass on these Laurence Decade merlot color ankle boots.

Net-A-Porter usually don't continue its sales as long as department stores. We wouldn't be surprised if they added an additional closeout promotion within the next week. After that, it's off to TheOutnet.

Hunt & Gather: $200 Designer Shoes

The prices of designer shoes have skyrocketed over the past five years. It wasn't so long ago that standard designer pumps retailed for $600. Now it seems as if $900 is the designer benchmark. Analysts frequently debate if people are actually spending more or just waiting longer for deeper discounts.

After experiencing a season of sticker shock it's fun to hunt for shoes that are reduced under $300. We like to think of it as three for the price of one. Above is an assortment of shoes that will cost you somewhere in the $200-range.  It just proves that no matter your budget you should never settle.

Our lineup includes an impressive assortment from Givenchy, Manolo Blahnik BBs, Jimmy Choo, Aquazzura and Altuzarra. Sizes are limited in each style but if you hunt, we are sure everyone can find something to gather.

FiveStory Clearance 80% Off (Wowzers)

Over the weekend we got a tip-off about a sale starting at FiveStory, our favorite Uptown multi-brand boutique. Usually the store ships their overstock and past season clothing to the Bowery Hotel basement, which is out of the way and lackluster. This season, the sale is taking place right in our backyard-- at the Madison Avenue boutique.

The sale doesn't officially open to the public until Thursday but we couldn't resist from taking a sneak peak today.  We are sure glad we did. After all, how often do you find authentic Balmain for less than the H&M collaboration?

FiveStory is clearing out most of its fall and winter collections. What makes this sale extra super is that almost everything is reduced 80%. The only exceptions we found were select jewelry and bags. that ranged from 40% to 60% off. Everything else we found was 80% off.

The boutique is set up a little like a curiosities store. Small rooms are filled with beautiful  and unexpected designer creations. The first room, is filled with cruise wear and none of it is on sale. The second room, in the middle of the store, is the heart of the sale. Inside, we found a white Giambattista Valli with floral lace and appliqués for $400 from $1995, a Rosie Assoulin metallic wool coat is $500 from $2500 and Maiyet wide-leg draped pants are $240 from $1200. (Click here for more pics and prices.)

Moving back to the 'Shoe Garden,' everything there too is 80% off. Hunter green suede Aquazarra shoes are $140 from $695, Nicholas Kirkwood polka-dot pearl shoes are $175 from $875 and Pierre Hardy leopard wedge pumps are $140 from $695. Be sure not to miss the Maiyet bags up top. Wow!

The last room of clothing is upstairs through the jewelry gallery that also has a nice assortment of merchandise that's discounted between 40% and 60% off. Half the room is sale merchandise but the selection is wowzers. A red draped Balmain dress is $440 from $2200. It costs less than the dresses the Balmain dresses sold at H&M. Another spectacular velvet Balmain comes to about $1200 from $6000. A Nomia top with eyelet is $80 from almost $400 and a Mary Katrantzou mermaid cut dress is about $300 from $1580.

Take note, that in most cases only one item of each size is displayed. Be sure to ask for items in your size. The sale doesn't officially open to the public until Thursday but it can be hard to resist such designer temptations. Pictures of our shopping trip can be found here and lots of the store's merchandise is represented on its website. At 80% off, feel free to go crazy!

Inspiring Your Next Vacation (Part 2)

It's hard not to think about getting away now that the holidays are behind us and temperatures have dipped into the single digits. While we love a new fashion collection few things are more thrilling than visiting a brand new luxury hotel.

(Click here to see Part 1.) For more information about these properties or any other travel related assistance email

Canyon Ranch (Kaplankaya, Turkey)

Turkey has been in the news a lot this year. Unfortunately, not for reasons that make you want to jump on a plane and leisurely explore. The timing of the first international Canyon Ranch near Bodrum, in Turkey, may not be ideal but the plans we've seen for this new wellness destination are quite remarkable.

Slated to open in July 2016, this Canyon Ranch is located on the Aegean Coast and will feature a total of 141 rooms –75 hotel rooms and suites and 66 enclave rooms and suites. The 107,500 square foot spa, fitness and wellness center will feature 40 treatment rooms. Guests will be able to enjoy treatments that combine traditional and Eastern medicine practices for the complete integrative wellness experience Canyon Ranch is known for.

We just hope that world affairs neutralize soon. Wouldn't it be nice to plan an exotic girl's weekends at Kaplankaya?

Il Sereno, Lago di Como (Lake Como, Italy)

Le Sereno is one of our favorite destinations on St. Barths and we can't wait for the new property to open this Summer on Lake Como, in Italy.

The property will be the iconic lake's only private beach and dock. Guests will be allowed arrive extravagantly by the hotel's custom-built water limousine.

Il Sereno-Como will feature 30 oversized suites-- all with waterfront views. One of the resort's show-stopping features will be the 60-foot-long freshwater infinity pool suspended over the water. It's  the only infinity pool on the lake. The modern design is especially refreshing for this region that is largely dominated by Renaissance palazzos and ornate villas.

The property will also feature a luxurious spa and the restaurants will be operated by the celebrity London restaurateur, Giuliano Lotto. South of France move over, we're heading to Como this Summer.

Park Hyatt, St. Kitts (St. Kitts, BWI)
Most of us just got back from holiday vacations but it's hard not to start dreaming about your next trip. Trailblazers looking for the newest and greatest should set their eyes on St. Kitts. The opening of the Park Hyatt, in November 2016, will be an island game-changer.

St. Barths and the Dominican Republic have had their day in the sunshine. Now it's time for Park Hyatt to take center stage. The property will feature 125 guest rooms and suites. Some of which will have private rooftop pools and the Presidential Suite will come with its own butler service and personal chef. (Yes, you can have fries with that.)

There will be restaurants, a spa, fitness center, meeting facilities, event space, a golf course and a beach club. Not to be overlooked, is the ever important Camp Hyatt. The kids are ready to pack their bags and so are we.

Spying For Winter's Hottest Sale Items

When markdown season strikes it's easy to lose track of the items you were eyeing when the collections first hit stores. Those iconic pieces tend to go quickly at department stores and if you're not fast they can be gone forever.

European stores and boutiques are notorious for their slower markdowns, which works in our benefit. If you missed your favorite pieces the first time around you can always hop a plane or surf outside of our obvious haunts. Right now, StyleBop is offering discounts up to 60% off but the most desirable fashions of the season are reduced just 30%.

Have you been dreaming of the color block Valentino high boots. They are right here for 30% off or $1400. The best part is that every size is available. They also have the coordinating Rockstud bag. We all need more Mugler in our lives. It's too bad that it's not more plentiful state-side. Here we found this rivet embellished wool dress for 40% off. If you missed any of Jeremy Scott's best selling line for Moschino, a full assortment that's discounted up to 70%.

Other great Eurocentric sites to keep your sights on are Farfetch, Luisaviaroma, Forzieri and the foreign Net-A-Porter sites. It's amazing how you shopping vitally breaks down any language barrier. Be wild, shop in French, Russian or Chinese. It's fun!

Chanel Gets the Second Markdown Treatment

Most department stores have started their final clearance sales and selections have become thin. The stock of Chanel merchandise has remained plentiful because only one markdown had been taken. Things are about to change.

Follow along on Instagram and Twitter as we shop our way through Chanel departments over the weekend.

Starting Friday, Barneys will reduce their entire shoe inventory to 60% off. When we last checked, earlier this week, the selection was plentiful and included lots of boots and sneakers. Tweed high boots will come to about $760 from $1900, patent combo boots with Chanel chain laces will come to $680 from $1700 and mid calf boots with fur tops (chinchilla-like) will go down to $900 from $2250.

The discount at Saks Fifth Avenue is the same but what remains is a little different. Most of the section are sneakers and sneaker-like boots. High tops with a suede body and rubber tips and heel are $380, the low version is $330 and tweed sneakers with gold accents are $540.

Over at various Neiman Marcus stores there are ballet flats in ivory for $225 chain sandals for $315. The markdown for Chanel shoes at Bloomingdale's is 50% off but they tend to add additional promotional discounts.

We suggest you snatch up what you see right now. These types of markdowns only come around twice a year. You can click here to see what we found at each store.

New Discount Designer Pop-Up

Discount stores that carry top shelf designer merchandise are a dying breed. The days of Daffy's and Filenes are long gone. That doesn't mean all hope is lost. This week, we stumbled upon a shopper's dream--Luxury 9.

Luxury 9, which is located on Lexington and 41st Street, carries top designer brands that are discounted 30% to 90% off retail. The store's furnishings are rather sparse but the minimal decor quickly dissipates as you focus on the surrounding treasures. The small selection of new and preowned Celine Phantoms, Trios and Tie Totes were the first items to catch our attention. It was  the spring 2016 Valentino Rockstud bags that really made our mouths drop to the floor.

Among the bags we also spotted lots of Prada and Christian Louboutin. All the bags and accessories are discounted 35% off retail but there are also a few Valentino totes discounted much more. A lace Valentino tote is $500 and the colorful camo versions are $795. Don't be too shy to ask for additional discounts. We saved $100 on a bag just for asking. (Head this way to see pictures from inside the store.)

If you can break your attention from the bag and accessory treasure hunt --that included double-Cs and croc Hs -- you will find lots and lots of designer men's and women's clothing and shoes. The clothing assortment is dominated by men's fashion.

In the suit selection we found Tom Ford suits and tuxedos priced at $1850, Kiton suits are $1950 and Brioni suits are $1695. Martin Margielas are $550 and Zegnas are $950. There are also men's dress shirts: Isaia ($145), Tom Fords ($195 ) and Brioni ($145).

There is also a plethora of men's outerwear, which includes leather jackets and coats from Bally, Off White, Givenchy and Marcelo Burlon. We aren't sure we are supposed to talk about the H ties, but, oops! Other tie brands include Marinella, Tom Ford, Zegna and Valentino.

The women's clothing selection is much smaller but the prices are amazing. We spotted a rack of Prada summer dresses that are all $300 and whole a rack of Brunello Cuinelli for just $100 an item. What the store lacks in woman's clothing they make up for in the shoe department.

Quilted and unquietly classic Ballet flats from you-know-who? Check. Red sole bottoms? Check. Fendi monster shoes? Yup. Rockstuds in various colors, sizes and hights? Lots! Discounts on shoes vary by designer but most range from 50% to 70% off retail.

If you're looking for even steeper savings on shoes, you should head to the furthest depths of the store. Hidden in the back is a section of Roger Vivier and Celine shoes all reduced to $235 and Saint Laurent and Tod's styles are just $149.

We are told that the store will continue to receive new merchandise daily but suggest you head out to this Luxury-9 pop-up soon. Nobody seems to know how long it will be open.  This is one of those places that will haunt you for the items you didn't buy when the opportunity presented itself.

Inspiring Your Next Vacation (Part 1)

It's hard not to think about getting away now that the holidays are behind us and temperatures have dipped into the single digits. While we love a new fashion collection few things are more thrilling than visiting a brand new luxury hotel.

The fresh linens, plush towels, eager staff and bragging rights are just a few aspects that make visiting a new hotel extra special. Good thing that the luxury boom has lead to a great crop of properties that just opened or are slated to open in 2016.

In a multi-part series we will highlight some of the most exciting new destinations in the world. For more information about these properties or any other travel related assistance email

Hotel Le Toiny (St. Barths, FWI)

Small and private is what you'll find at the newly renovated Hotel Le Toiny, in St. Barths. The resort, which reopened in November, has just 14 one-bedroom suites and one three-bedroom villa. All have wide-open water views, kitchens, and 10-by-20-foot private pools.

The renovations were overseen by London-based interior designer, Lady Bee Osborn. Le Toiny’s original French-inspired décor has been transformed into a clean ocean front aesthetic, which includes a muted palette of neutral tones, petrified wood, mother-of-pearl and sun-bleached teak. The design is accented with pops of Caribbean blue.

Also new is the Toiny Beach Club, which is surrounded by groves and orchards and is noted for its barfoot-chic atmosphere. New softer sand was added to to the beach but doesn't interrupt Toiny Bay’s natural rocky shoreline. The club is opened to hotel guests and to the public by reservation. Rates at the hotel are about $2000 a night (plus tax) in February.

Faena Hotel Miami Beach (Miami Beach, USA)

The highly anticipated Faena Hotel Miami Beach didn't open in time for Art Basel but we have a good excuse to go back to Miami. The Faena officially opened in December after gutting the  historic Saxony Hotel, which was originally built in 1947. The hotel opening marks the public debut of the Faena Arts District, a $1 billion neighborhood rooted in art and culture.

The Faena Miami Beach has 169 rooms and suites and 13 penthouse residences that span the top two floors. Guest rooms combine classic Miami Beach touches with Art Deco motifs. The result is a plethora of contemporary art and plush red details, like the fringed red couches that look as if they are straight out of a hacienda.

The Faena values personalized service. Each floor is assigned a Faena Butler, which offers guests personalized service throughout their stay. The hotel also offers 'Experience Managers', who can assist in designing the overall experience from pre-arrival planning to departure arrangements.

Upon entrance, guests are greeted by a 30-foot-long red carpet that leads into a Cathedral-like lobby that's lined with massive gold-leafed columns and edged with elaborate floor-to-ceiling murals depicting lush tropical scenes. The Terre Sante spa is 22,000 square feet and includes a hammam, ice chamber and couples treatment suite with ocean views. Rates start at about $900 a night (plus tax) in February.

The Beekman (New York, USA)

Coming soon to Lower Downtown is The Beekman, which is slated to open early this year. (We are hoping for February but no final date has been announced.) This highly anticipated historic renovation showcases a soaring nine-story Victorian atrium and a majestic skylight.

Operated by Thompson Hotels, The Beekman will have 287 rooms, including 45 suites and two signature penthouses with private rooftop terraces overlooking One World Trade Center, the Woolworth Building and City Hall Park. Keith McNally and Tom Colicchio will both have restaurants in the hotel. Keith McNally — of famed Balthazar and Minetta Tavern — will open a 94-seat eatery called Augustine, serving French bistro fare. Colicchio will run the lounge, to be called the Living Room, which will provide room service to guests and catering venues.

This is the first new luxury hotel to strategically land in the middle of Fulton Center, Brookfield Place and Westfield World Trade Center. Between the new restaurants, the shopping and the financial center, The Beekman is destined to become one of  Downtown's hottest destinations for tourists and New Yorkers alike. Rates in June start at $530 a night (plus tax).

Neiman Marcus Handbags 70% Off

Most department stores have already had their discounted handbags annihilated. We've been keeping a keen eye on Neiman Marcus as they have been slowly discounting select bags. Today we were sorting through the assortment and were surprised that bags were reduced to sample sale-like discounts.

Head this way and feast your eyes on Tom Ford, The Row and Christian Louboutin handbags that are discounted 70%. Right here is a Louboutin Sweet Charity bag that comes to $645 from $2150 and this fringed leopard Charity is just over $500 from $1700. Heading over to the Tom Ford goodies, there is a leather camera case reduced to $507 from almost $1700 and this Chain-Strap small cross body is $600 from $1990.

Among the other great finds are The Row's classic hobo is $765 from $2550 and a Brunello Cucinelli pochette is $565 from $1885, this Prada lipstick print bag is $720 from $2400 and an Alexander McQueen skull clutch is $750 from $2500.

For some reason, you can't find these great discounts just from sorting by discount. This is the perfect opportunity to brush up on those math skills and start calculating those discounts.

Currently, shoes and boots from the winter collection are now discounted to 33% off. This markdown should not cause too much excitement considering that department stores are running sales where Manolos are 60% off.

In less than three weeks you can expect the discount to drop to 50% off and by early February the discount climbs to 75% off. You know, that's when we come running. You can click here to see our Manolo closeout coverage from last year were we found lots of ornate and iconic styles for just $250!
