Trends: Spring is Coming Up Daisies

Okay. We admit it. We have Spring fever. And yes, it's contagious.

It's only March 1 but everywhere we look we see daisies. Florals are always a big trend for Spring but, this year, designers were clearly smitten by the simplicity of the slender daisy. It makes sense, after all, last Spring was tulip-mania and the prior year we saw an abundance of cherry blooms.

Nordstrom-- in particular-- has a fantastic array of designer items showcasing this floral trend. Some of our favorite items include Daisy pumps from Charlotte Olympia, Kate Spade's daisy wedges and  Prada's daisy slides, which are likely to be come the most iconic shoe of the season.

Daisies aren't only for the feet-- obviously. Over here is a beautifully understated top from Valentino with embroidered daisies, Victoria Beckham's daisy print stretch dress (almost sold out) or a more understated Alice & Olivia daisy lace cocktail dress.

Daisy mania even extends to these Sam Edelman sunglasses or a daisy print neck-tie for your bae. We haven't even started on daisy dukes-- but we might want to save those for Summer.

It's really special to be able to find all these amazing designer daisy items all at Nordstrom. As always, online shoppers should take advantage of Nordstrom's great customer service, which features free shipping and free returns. If only all stores were as easy to shop.

Chanel Launches New Handbag

It's been more than six years since Chanel launched the Boy Bag in 2011. Since it's debut, the Boy has been one of the hottest bags in the world. Maison Chanel is hoping to have the same impact when the company launches the Gabrielle bag this coming month.

Named for the French brand's founder, Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel, the Gabrielle is expected to become a pillar of the Chanel brand. The bag launch will coincide with the rollout of a new fragrance, jewelry and a very large media campaign depicting the designer as a young and rebellious girl, according to WWD. (Perhaps that was the pre-WWII years?)

The new handbag style was inspired by virtual reality goggles and upending the shape, according to Karl Lagerfeld. The Gabrielle has a flat-bottom and is shown in styles raging from a backpack, synch bag and a tote. There are also a bunch of colors and materials from which to choose. Prices range from $3,000 for a classic black lambskin up to $33,000 for a large alligator version. (You can see more pictures of the new bag style here.)

It's hard to make a full assessment of the Gabrielle without seeing and holding it but the style seems familiar. The new style draws design similarities to the Cambon bucket bag, the now, discontinued Shopping Tote, a backpack and a vintage quilted tote.

We would love to hear your thoughts on the Gabrielle. Is this a new 'must have' or a fruitless attempt to avoid luxury stagnation?

Save Up to 25% on Shopbop

For a long time, department stores have been luring shoppers with gift card shopping incentives. We'd prefer a straight discount over a gift card any day. It's always more attractive to save money now than offered the promise of a gift card that either expires.

Good thinking: Shopbop is offering a shopping discount incentive that increases with the more you spend. The best part is that we just got early access. You can start shopping now and use the code GOBIG17 at checkout. Look for the items indicated 'Select Style'. There are several more brand hold-outs than usual but the savings levels are better.

We wouldn't mind using the discount on these Ferragamo Vara flats, which are a trending item for summer but not yet on sale anywhere. Discounted Prada sunglasses are also not a bad bet at this time of year. If you haven't yet jumped on the bomber or varsity jacket trend you can start with this version from Kenzo our our favorite from Opening Ceremony. A Mira Mikati sweater is making us lust for permanent warmer weather.

15% off orders of $200+
20% off orders of $500+
25% off orders of $800+

You can also use the discount on sale items. This Derek Lam will come to just $600 from almost $3000, this denim jumpsuit comes to $350 from $1500 and this Suno blouse is $100 from $400. That's about 75% off! (That's where our mental math skills end.)

Beauty Update: Armani, Pat McGrath & Marc Jacobs

I absolutely love beauty products and test new items all the time.  You don't get to hear about most of them because I won't make any recommendation unless I buy and replenish a product the product. That's when you know a beauty product is really good.

For the past several months I have been using lots of new items but there are three in particular that I absolutely love:

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($62)
There is a reason why this foundation has won just about every award in the beauty industry. With just one pump, it delivers a radiant and silky finish. To start, the pigmentation is like no-other. The color we chose has a lovely rose tone and looks completely natural. The coverage is light but lasts all day. This product isn't oily and the finish causes the skin to glow.

Bottom line, Armani foundation is head over heels better than the Saint Laurent Touche Éclat. Get it. Try it. Let me know if you love it as much as I do.

Marc Jacobs Ultra Skinny Blacquer Gel Eye Crayon ($24)
There are few things I hate more than sharpening an eye pencil. The liner always breaks and the shavings get all over. This Marc Jacobs liner is so skinny that it never needs to be sharpened and is replenished with a twist and a click.

In addition to the convenient packaging, the gel-like liner applies easily and, yes, stays on all day. Everyone I have recommended it to has thanked me. I hope you will too.

Pat McGrath Metalmorphosis 005 Kit ($60)
It's hard to scroll through Instagram and miss Pat McGrath's limited edition products. The pictures are mesmerizing but the speed at which the items sell out is equally as remarkable. Somehow we were able to snag an eye kit at the Union Square Sephora. The kit contains pigment, eye-cream, a black dual-ended marker and Mehron mixing liquid.

Before I get ahead of myself, I should make it clear that I purchased this as a novelty item. I never anticipated that I would be able to integrate bronze shadow and eye liners into my normal rotation. Granted, Metalmorphais is not part of my daily routine but I do find myself reaching for the glitter and gold when I want to add pizzazz for a special event. Its really a wonder how a little bit of blended gold can transform an eye.

I'm still experimenting a bit with this one but I don't regret buying it for even a moment.

Private Designer Handbag Sale: Chanel, Hermes & Vuitton

Nobody plans to become a collector of great fashion--it just happens. Before you know it, your closets are overstuffed. That's when you need to start making tough choices. You can either stop buying or begin to 'recycle'.

Hanna Kim, the founder of A Modern Take, began accumulating so many bags that she made a rule that she needed to sell a bag in order to buy a new one. If Hanna sets her eyes on the newest style Chanel, Vuitton or Hermes, she says good-bye to an existing member of her expansive collection. This tactic has turned into a full fledged business and others have followed suit and asked her to sell their bags too.

"As a vintage Chanel collector, I found the experience of buying preowned designer bags from online shops and consignment shops to be very different from buying new bags at boutiques," Hanna says. "It did not feel as special as buying a bag at a place like a Chanel boutique. I wanted to create a more personal and luxurious experience that would match the high end bags that I am selling."

Once or twice a year, Hanna holds a private Chanel and Vintage Designer bag sale. This year, the sale again will take place at the Bowery Hotel on Friday, February 24th. The sale is by appointment only.

Shoppers can expect to find lots of vintage Chanel with a focus on classic flap bags. Aside from Chanel, there are also bags from Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Chloe, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Saint Laurent. We are also told that there will be a small assortment of wallets.

To request an invite, email A Modern Take with your preferred shopping time. They will reply with a confirmation. Everything at the sale is fully authenticated and in excellent condition. You can check out A Modern Take's Instagram to get a sneak peek of what can be found at the sale.

What You'll Find at the Gucci Outlet in Secaucus

Alessandro Michele has taken Gucci from nearly extinct to an Italian stallion. Right now, Gucci is the queen bee, spectacular serpent and king of the luxury fashion jungle.

As with any top banana, or in this case, a crowned pineapple, Alessandro Michele didn't want his highly prized collections discounted. This past season, sale season was limited to select group of top Gucci clients. If you weren't on the list you couldn't access the sale merchandise online or in boutiques.

Gucci's warehouse in Secucus, NJ has traditionally been the home to the under-the-radar Gucci Outlet. It had been years since we have taken the outlet trip through the tunnel but the seductiveness of this pas sale season piqued our curiosity, which resulted in a recent road trip.

Over the holiday weekend, the outlet store was not very crowded, which was a good thing. Upon entering, we went straight to the back to browse the selection of shoes for both men and women, Unfortunately, there were no iconic styles available. As a matter of fact, the selection looked more like the discount assortment found DSW than a Gucci boutique.

Among the most reduced merchandise was a table of boots, shoes and sandals that were an additional 50% off or a total of 80% off retail. We found several horsebit style high boots that were priced at about $600. A version in python was $800 from $3500 and pointed-toe booties were $450.

Other outlet shoes were discounted just 50% off retail. The selection includes, various styles with the the Shanghi Blooms print from Cruise '16 and toile print espadrilles. There were also a variety of shoes with an oversized horsebit and metallic sandals with a heavy stacked heel. Click here to see pictures of the shoes at the Gucci outlet.

The clothing assortment was much better but the discount is the same 50% off as the shoes. We found  a pink coat with green fur cuffs that is priced at $2850 from $5700 and a pink tweed and mink jacket is $2500 from about $5000. Both are from the 2016 cruise collection. There are also items from fall 2015 but the discount is still just 50%. You can click here to see pictures of some of the best clothing items at the outlet.

Now, to the unfortunate story of bags. The discount is less than than the first markdown at most stores and the selection isn't very good. There are blossoms, double-Gs and Arabesque style bags. There are also some older styles that are classic to the Gucci brand but still not very desirable. Here are pics.

We can't say that the shopping trip was very fruitful. As a matter of fact, we didn't leave the store with any shopping bags. On the bright side, the Gucci warehouse outlet is still alive and kicking. We might try again in a few seasons when Gucci mania dies down and the warehouse begins to fill with past season merchandise.

Click over to see pictures from our shopping trip or scroll above to shop past season merchandise online.

Neiman Marcus Shipments Hit Last Call

If you've ever wondered what happens to all that wonderful merchandise at Neiman Marcus that goes un-purchased, we have the answer. In just a matter of weeks, it pops up at the brand's discount store, Last Call.

Neiman Marcus Last Call stores have received new arrivals direct from Neiman Marcus. The discount usually starts at about 65% off original retail. Keep your eyes open, we have heard recent reports of Moncler coats and in past years we've spotted Chanel clothing discounted almost 90% off retail. We've also heard that the discounter receives Chanel bags from time to time but doesn't display them. We suggest asking a sales manager if you're on the hunt.

Last Call online also has plenty of good finds. A Suno skirt is $97 from $700, a Wes Gordon floral dress is $1200 from $5000, a Stella McCartney tunic is $460 from over $1600 and Alexander McQueen leggings are $300 from $1000.

Fashion Week Trends: The Pantsuit

Fashion week is heating up. We are serving up all the smoking hot trends while we get through a marathon of shows. These top trends are what you can expect to see on the street and in the pages of your favorite fashion magazines next fall.

Remember how positive everyone was in the way-back days of last Winter? The primaries were fantastically entertaining and many of us were anticipating the first female president. Fashion designers were clearly the most excited and were looking to celebrate the moment by showcasing strong women in pantsuits.

The political outcome was not the most desirable to some designers but the powerful female takes the spotlight all over this season's runways. Altuzarra showed models wearing velvet suits in fiery red. Victoria Beckham, who has earned a reputation for her powerful female style, showed various pantsuit suiltutes that ranged from slouchy to tailored.

Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia debuted as the new creative directors of Oscar de la Renta and showed more pant options than we can ever recall seeing on the legendary designer's runway. Our favorite was a ultra-structured version in peony pink with an wide silver obi belt.

Pantsuits clearly have taken over the maxi skirt. We suggest you browse winter sale merchandise and try to snag this look before the novelty wears off.

Fashion Week Trends: Politics

Fashion week is heating up. We are serving up all the smoking hot trends while we get through a marathon of shows. These top trends are what you can expect to see on the street and in the pages of your favorite fashion magazines next fall.

The world has gone crazy. The socio and geo-political climate is like none we have seen in generations. Fashion designers, like true artists, refuse to remain passive. This season, we've seen many designers use the runway to share political statements.

Public School shot an uppercut to the Trump administration.  "Make America Great Again" slogan hats were refashioned as their own version that read: "Make America New York." The number "44 1/2," was embroidered on the side to add a sprinkle of salt. Models also showcased sweatshirts with the words "We Need Leaders."

At Prabal Gurung the finale stole the show. Models took their final walk each wearing a different slogan on their T-shirts. Slogans included, "The future is female," "We will not be silenced," "Yes. We should all be feminists," and "Girls just want to have fundamental rights."

Raf Simon’s debut collection for Calvin Klein, presented a model wrapped in an American flag and show attendees recived bandannas, accompanied by a note that read, “Unity, inclusion hope and acceptance: Join us at Calvin Klein wearing the white bandan[n]a #TiedTogether.”

Christian Siriano’s runway featured a model in a pink silk, floor-length skirt and a black t-shirt emblazoned with the message, “People are people.” The crowd cheered. We are confident this trend will continue as fashion week takes over Europe.

Politics and slogan tees are not essentially new to fashion. If you're fashion is politically inspired you can wear your platform before these fashions hit stores in the fall. For Spring, Chloe offers a tee celebrating "Superwoman," Ann Demeulemeester's Tee is printed in rock 'n' roll style with "I am red with love" and Dresscamp has a style that says, "We can be heroes for one day."

Fashion Week Trends: Denim Demands

Fashion week is heating up. We are serving up all smoking hot trends while we get through a marathon of shows. These top trends are what you can expect to see on the street and in the pages of your favorite fashion magazines, next fall.

Denim has been hot for several seasons but designers are showing no sign of letting go of dungarees. The trend is usually reserved for transitional seasons but this runway season we are taking it all the way through the coldest fashions for Winter.

Adam Selman says he was inspired by the book American Denim and its colorful illustrations of the craftsy world of ’70s denim art. One of the highlights of his collection was a denim trench tied with a wide contrasting belt. Tanya Taylor added ruffles and rabbit trim to her denim creations, which added a twist of luxe to the standard issue. Simon Miller, started  as a just traditional jeans cmpany, but the brand has gone on to create a full ready-to-wear collection that is so much more than the standard pantalones.

It's no surprise that for Spring you can find enough denim to swath an entire fashion show audiance. Obviously, some items are more interesting than others. From Carolina Herrera's denim ball gown to Vetements collaboration with Levis, there is no shortage of ways to achieve your American denim dreams right now. (Special note: Asos is always a good resource for less expensive denim fashions.)

Moda Operandi and Saks Fifth Avenue Final Discounts

Gone are the days of super February markdowns at the Saks Fifth Avenue consolidation sale. If you're looking, all the sale merchandise is gone. If you're still looking for fa-shions at a great discount you need to shop online.

The Mode Operandi Winter discount sale ends Monday and the markdowns are up to 75% off. Over here is an oversized tuxedo jacket by Emilia Wickstead for $446 from $2230, a Mary Katrantzou skirt with flame details is $412 from $2060 and a Pepa Pombo jacket is $224 from $1000.

Among the merchandise not reduced quite so much are these Oscar de la Renta earrings that are a huge rage among the fashion set. They are now $200 from $400 or you can get the Baubble Bar version (like we did) for $38. This Stuart Weitzman Ombre pumps look especially wearable and are $161 from $435.

If you're still interested in what's going on at Saks, all the discounted merchandise is online. The markdown is up to 75% off but  remember all sale merchandise is final sale. Head Over Heels: Inside Manolo's Final Markdown

The Manolo Blahnik boutique's final clearance sale started Monday and we couldn't wait to scope out the deals. This sale is legendary for the plush discounts that top 75% off. This season, the markdown categories are the same but more shoes are priced less expensively than in prior years.

As usual, the shoes are marked by colored dots that start at $195 and go up to $450 for high leather boots. (Usually, taller and ornate boots are priced at $550.) We are a bit disappointed that there was only one shoe marked with a red dot ($195). The disappointment disappears quickly once you realize that the next category is just $30 more and includes almost every pump from the fall-winter collection. Not too shabby at all.

From simple suede BBs to more stylish and intricate designs, most every non-exotic skin pump is priced at $225. Low and ankle boots are mainly $325 and high and fancier style boots are $450. A small assortment of Satin Hangisi shoes are $275 from $965.

Other stand out items include Pascalare stretchy high boots in navy, black and nude are that are $450 from $1395. (They are $1425 at Bergdorf Goodman.) Sulgamba low suede buckle boots are $325 from $1265 and BB suede pumps are $225 from $595. You can click here or the jump link below to see pictures of what's available at the sale.

There is also an assortment of alligator slings, pumps and d'Orsay shoes. Most colors are only available in small sizes. Slings and D'orsay styles are $500. Pumps are $800.

We hear there was a bit of a line get into the sale when it started on Monday. Today there was no line and the boutique was very calm with just a few woman browsing and shopping. Several extra sales people were on hand to assist with the higher volume.

Before you go, be sure to be mindful of the hour. The store closes at 2pm to restock and reorganize the merchandise. It's always a bummer to forget and show up to find locked doors.

The boutique will close from 2pm to 3pm to restock

Coach Sale 50% Off

Coach recently celebrated turning 75. To commemorate the milestone, the all-American brand created a line of limited edition varsity jackets and assorted fashion items that were notably adored by East and West Coast fashion gals.

The outwear was customized with a variety of vintage patches, hand-applied embroidery, hardware and pins. Right now, you can snag these quintessential fashion item for 50% off. The aforementioned classic varsity jacket is now about $400 from nearly $800.

There are a lot more items in the Coach sale that will rouse even the biggest fashion snob. (Coach's popularity on the West Coast is especially explosive.) This officer coat with patches is reduced to $500 from $1000, a sterling lined booties are $190 from $375 and a henna color moto jacket is $747 from $1500.

This Coach collection was received by fashion critics with rave reviews as creative director, Stuart Vevers, drew upon "American optimism." The show notes that accompanied the collection read, "New York City, the cultural melting pot embraces individuality and welcomes outsiders, regardless of race, gender or personal style. A sense of togetherness, where contradictions and imperfections are respected and celebrated."

It's hard to believe that these types of ideals are even more poignant now than they were six months ago. So, go ahead. Celebrate Americana at 50% off. It might help you feel a little bit better.

Neiman Marcus: Biggest Markdown of the Year

Neiman Marcus just started a promotion where sale merchandise is discounted an additional 30%. Final discounts on many items are hitting 80% off, which is essentially the deepest discount of the year. The promotion is only two days and ends Tuesday.

Upon browsing, we found this Roland Mouret dress pants that come to $214 from $1230. Yes. That's exactly 80% off. Right here is a Marco De Vincenzo dress that is discounted the same amount and comes to $900 from $2200.

Over here, we found a Pamella Roland cocktail dress in striking yellow. The discount brings this beauty to just $800 from $4600. Don't miss this Altuzarra dress with fringe that is $600 from nearly $3500. It's also hard to argue against getting this parka from Self Portrait that's $490 from $1165.

Among the shoes, we found lots of styles priced along the lines of what you would find at a super sample sale. Some styles are discounted near 70% with the additional markdown. Among the designer assortment we found these Aquazzura suede boots that are $390 from $1400. Here is a pair of gold boots from Maison Margiela for $261 from $935 and shearling ankle boots from Laurance Dacade are $315 from $1125.

The promotion runs through Tuesday. Neiman Marcus rarely, if ever, offers an additional 30% off final reductions. We suggest you take advantage while the opportunity presents itself-- or you'll be sooooorry.

The Best Manolo Sale of the Season

The Manolo Blahnik final price cut is finally here. Starting Monday, Manolo will begin their last markdown of the season. This four day sale is the perfect opportunity to stock up on classic and ornate shoes from the designer's winter collection at up to 75% off.

Sale styles are from the exclusive boutique collection and include some alligator. Prices are always marked by sticker dots, which usually range from $195 for a red dot up to $350 for a green dot. Most shoes and low boots-- even highly ornate styles-- are priced at $250.

The markdown event begins Monday and run through Thursday, February 9. Once the sale ends the Blahnik boutique will close for a breather. The planned re-org will continue until Monday, February 13th, when the store will reopen with the new collection.

The store is often crowded but at least there usually isn't a long line to get in. The sale will only run for four days and styles and sizes run low quickly. If you're looking for a great deal we suggest you switch out of your heels and take a run over to the boutique asap.

Barneys Purple Card Promotion

Not sure what to do this weekend? We suggest you head to Barneys.

Starting today and through Sunday, Barneys shoppers can earn a $25 gift card, or "Purple Card', for every $250 they spend. Accrued gift cards are redeemable for merchandise from Monday, February 6, 2017 through Wednesday, March 5, 2017.

Take note, Purple Cards are available when you purchase Chanel, Brunello Cucinelli and Ermenegildo Zegna, but can't be used for redemption on those brands. Celine and Christian Louboutin are excluded on purchases and redemptions. On the bright side, the store still has plenty of sale merchandise that is eligible for the gift card promo.

The Purple Card promotion is available at Barneys stores nationwide, on the website and at BarneysWarehouse. (Winter clothing is an extra 40% off at the online outlet store!)

Be warned, however, Barneys will most likely not extend the dates if the cards aren't used during the specified window of time. So be sure to enjoy your meal at Freds and go back next week to use those gift cards!

ShopBop 70% Off Clearance Explodes

New Spring merchandise is pushing aging sweaters and coats to the back of stores. In the online world, the clearance tab is the proverbial bargain basement. Today, Shopbop has reduced hundreds of items to 70% off.

After browsing over 1400 clearance items, we pulled our favorites into the lookbook above. Some of the sale highlights include, a Derek Lam double breasted wool coat that's $870 from $2900, Aquazzura high boots with long fringe is $500 from $1700 and Sara Battaglia fringe bag for $202 from $575. There are also lots of less expensive staples like 3x1 embroidered jeans that are $190 from $625, a Public School shirtdresss is $100 from $350 and Frame skinny jeans are $62 from $209.

Take note, all these 70% off items are final sale. The no-backsies rule used to really bother us but we've realized that we never return anything bought online anyway. (Too lazy.) So really, what's the difference?
