Sales: Burberry, Mansur Gavriel and Stuart Weitzman

In lieu of our normal Madison Avenue crawl, we are digging into brand markdowns. The sale sections of Burberry, Mansur Gavriel, and Stuart Weitzman are definitely worth the scroll.

Burberry launched it's outlet online. Most of the discounts range from 40% to 80% off.  The selection is great but some of the discounts aren't where we want them to be. There are some standouts that are worth buying now including, this sleeveless dress that's $253 from $1250, a classic plaid check shirt that's $224 from $350, and a cashmere-lined down coat with a fur collar for $870 from $3100.

The  Stuart Weitzman "sample sale" contains a variety of shoes that are all priced under $200.  These low-heel suede stretch boots $170 from $575,  low stacked heel sandals are $160 from $450,  and the classic nude ankle strap sandal is $150 from $400. A lot of the selection is comprised of winter styles but the prices are good enough to entice you to stock up now and save them for later.

Over at Mansur Gavriel the discounts are 30% to 50% off.  A classic mini bucket bag is between $415 and $475 from $665, depending on the color.  Totes are $415 from $595, short heel sandals are $200 from $395, and a ruched cotton skirt is $325 from $645.

During the public Mansur sample sale, discounts ranged from 40% to 75% off. A sample sale would boast bags starting at 50% off and shoes would be 70%. We don't know if there will be an online sample sale but $200 shoes don't seem too expensive.

Weekend Shopping: Impulses & Obsessions

I really dislike talking about politics but my voice can't exist in a bubble that's only comprised of Gucci shoes and Saint Laurent purses. Racism a topic as old as our nation and even after generations of dialogue and protests, there has not been enough change. It's about justice. It's a matter of humanity. We must do more and do better.

Everyone deserves equality and the same chance at the American Dream. That needs to be our collective reality. I can't profess to know how to get there but moments of collective self-reflection and action spark change.

This week's fashion sales were a little quite following the Memorial Weekend bonanza. If you're looking for the perfect Zimmerman frock, the designer is offering 50% off on its own website. The selection is really perfect for a Zimm fan. Here is a halter dress that's reduced to $320 from $640 and a dress with a bow is $325 from $650.

Over at Savannah's, which is located in Australia, is hosting a "secret sale" where lots of designer shoes are discounted between 20% and 60% off. Manolo Skysan's are $540 from $1100, Givenchy black pumps are $240 from $700,  and Christian Louboutin slingbacks are $407 from $815.

Over at Tessabit, Mad-Spy readers can receive an additional 10% off through this link with the code: MADISONAVENUE10X. Highlights include Chloe slingbacks for $270 from $620 US retail. A Balmain dress is $720 from $1450, a Rick Owens leather jacket is $740 from $1638, and Moncler sneakers are  $260 from $475. You can click here to read more details and to see what else we found.

It's a good time to take another sweep through Italist. We found a Balmain blazer in pink for $850 from $2300 US retail. This Celine logo tee is $273 from $400+ US retail and a Celine sweatshirt is $350 from $515. A Balenciaga swing shirt is $578 from $757. More details are in the full blog post.

We also found the sale section updated at SSense. We found a Mansur Gavriel pouch for $340 from $600. This Off-White Binder Clip bag still feels classic and it's $573 from $2100 and these Gucci sandals are $570 from $730. You can read more here.

Head over to Coltorti and save 20% off nearly everything on the site with the code DEALMOON20. The 20% off isn't newsworthy in itself but it adds up to 40% to 50% off US retail and there are lots of great classic designer styles from which to shop. The small YSL LE 61 bag comes to $1145 from $2050 US retail. That's nearly half-off and there are even more classic styles like YSL Vicky is $1347 from $2000 US retail.  This Fendi tote is $1300 from $2400 US retail and Bottega Veneta heels are $480 from $870 US retail. See, the price difference is really extreme.  The code works on sale merchandise too click here to read more.

This week, we can expect to see additional savings from Saks and MyTheresa. If we are lucky, we might also get a little access to the Net-a-Porter sale.

Until next week... same time, same place?

Lake Como's Tessabit 'Best Customers" Discount

The sales in Italy are very competitive this season. The Italian boutique, Tessabit is taking its sale section and reducing designer merchandise even more for it's 'best customers'. Mad-Spy readers can receive an additional 10% off through this link with the code: MADISONAVENUE10X.

Remember, the extra discount code can only be applied to the items in this edit. Some highlights include Chloe slingbacks for $270 from $620 US retail. A Balmain dress is $720 from $1450, a Rick Owens leather jacket is $740 from $1638, and Moncler sneakers are  $260 from $475.

We always love a secret sale section but don't overlook the full-priced merchandise. Most brands are  25% with the code to TSB25. The code doesn't work on all designers but can be applied to Fendi, Balenciaga, and Givenchy.

The selection for men is as good, if not, better than the options for women. So don't be shy forwarding the code to your male counterparts.

The best part of the Tessabit promotion is that the merchandise is coming from Italy and many of the items retail for less money when compared to our retail prices. Shipping costs are nominal, all duties are covered and even returns are free. There's also no sales tax, which can mean a savings of an additional 10%. You can't do much better than that!

Italist Discounts Get Serious (Con't)

As European stores dive deep into sale season, we got a heads up that the multi-boutique platform Italist added more merchandise to its sale section. We couldn't help from taking --another --scroll to see what deals we could find.

Here is a Balmain blazer in pink for $850 from $2300 US retail. (This item is a great deal for under $1000 and this is even better.) This Celine logo tee is $273 from $400+ US retail and a Celine sweatshirt is $350 from $515. A Balenciaga swing shirt is $578 from $757.

Don't miss a Golden Goose browse through the kid's section. Here is GG pair for just $286 from $550-ish US and they are a size 36. This GG with a red star is $350 and available in a size 36 to size 40.

These Italist items will go fast once word gets out. We suggest that you don't wait very making decisions. It feels like magic when you find a great selection and substantial savings.

Ssense Designer Finds

Ssense has been leading the charge through sale season. The site's official designer sale started last week but there have been amazing discounts for months. What's most surprising is that there are continually new finds.

The best deals aren't necessarily found in the sale section but within the regularly priced merchandise. For instance, here is a Bottega Veneta pouch bag that's $2190 from $2700 US retail, these Gucci sandals are $570 from $730 and Gucci tennis sneakers are $535 from $690. As a matter of fact, there are lots of Gucci Princetown loafers for $675 from $730.

For those looking for more aggressive discounts, there is always the sale section. This new season Versace bathing suit is $245 from $545 and this Richard Quinn dress is a find at $331 from $735. This Off-White Binder Clip bag still feels classic and it's $573 from $2100 and this Mansur Gavriel pouch is $340 from $600. (I don't recall seeing it less expensive.)

The thing with Ssense is that you have to spend time and explore continuously. We will be sure to add more finds to the post if we over the next few days.

Coltorti: Big Discounts on Classic Luxury

We wouldn't expect the end of this "socially distanced" holiday weekend to be a big transition but the entire experience felt like a compromise and not completely satisfying. To add a jolt of excitment we saved the best sale for last.

Right now, you can head over to Coltorti and save 20% off nearly everything on the site with the code DEALMOON20.

The code works on sale merchandise too.

Our advice is to search for items that are difficult to find discounted and not to hesitate. The selection is quickly dwindling and we don't anticipate a restock any time soon. Just take note, that duties aren't included and that could mean an extra 10% on items valued over $800.

Weekend Shopping: Impulses & Obsessions

Welcome to week (I lost count) of quarantine weekend shopping. Some notable highlights include Chanel shoppers scrambling to purchase bags before Monday's price hike and retail stores beginning to open in some parts of the country.

There seems to be a mad rush of shoppers as retail begins to open. (Click here to see a video of Nordstrom Rack in Los Vegas.) Once the initial wave of shoppers purchase what they need and satisfy their desperation to be outside, we will get a more accurate assessment of the retail environment. I am worried the news will not be good.

Those still at home, present company included, will have to continue to satisfy our retail needs online. The good thing is that there are plenty of holiday weekend sales. You can click here to read about them all and to see my favorite sale items.

NEW: Click over to LuisaViaRoma to save 30% off with the code MDAY30. Not everything is included and it's hard to tell what will work before you put it in the cart with the code. Some hidden highlights include a new season Balenciaga mules for $525 from $750 and the flat style is $1300 from $1900. Fendi espadrilles are $455 from $650 and this Balenciaga tee is $315 from $450. Remember there is no sales tax, duty, or shipping fees, which make the deal even better.

Blue & Cream is offering an extra 25% off sale items with the code MDW25. There are a lot of great Zimmerman items that go down to about 50% off with the code. This embroidered shirt is $312 from $600 and a floral print halter dress is $365 from $700. Also, check out the denim. GRLFRD jeans are $130 from $250 and Mother jean shorts are $85 from $228.

Some of the weekend highlights include Intermix where sale items are an additional 40% off.  Here are Manolo heels for $258 from $725 and white jeans from Veronic Beard are $83 from $220.  I suggest you browse through the denim options. I am willing to take the "final sale risk" on brands I already wear. Intermix has wonderful customer service. I've never been burned.

Next, don't underestimate the markdowns at Saks where some items have been further reduced. An ombre maxi-dress from Sea is $155 from $345, Off-White sneakers are $372 from $620 and these Manolos are $253 from $845.

If you're looking for the most high-end designer deals, you're not going to want to miss the holiday promotion on Shop375. Everything on the site is an additional 25% off with the code Memorialday25. This Chanel beach tote for $562 might be the deal of the year. This Balmain tank has become a staple of my Summer wardrobe and it's $198 from $350.

Yoox has a lot of additional markdowns for the holiday weekend. Saint Laurent logo sandals are $474 from $795 US retail and this Prada iconic print lips skirt is $299 from $650. Over at Kirna Zebete you can save 25% off full-priced merchandise with the code WFH25. I can't believe this Bottega Veneta Cassette bag is still available at $1400 from $1900. It fits a lot more than the puffy style and it's a lot more affordable.

Before you tune out and turn in, don't miss the great beauty promotion from Ole Henriksen. I've been using the 3 Wonders Regimen Set for about a month now and love it. You can use the code MADSPY15 and the entire three-piece set comes to just $62.90 from a value of $93. The combination of products is truly all that I've bee using and the glow makes me so happy that I've sent a few kits to my friends. You can read more about the products here.

For all those wondering, Net-A-Porter won't begin markdowns until mid-June. We expect this coming week to be a bit quiet following all of the holiday promotions. Even so, you can bet there will be something to buy.

Until next week... Same time, same place?

Manolo Hangisi print shoes $600 from $1000

Mansur Gavriel clutch $600 (+25% off)
SEA lace blouse $175 from $250 (+15% off)
Report Card: B- A straight discount is much better than discount levels, especially when the level for 25% off is so high. The great selection redeemed this sale. There are really lots of great options. It's safe to speculate that this Summer's wardrobe will be more casual than usual. Weeding down your want list will be difficult. Maybe, buy one or two pieces now and save the rest for later.

Report Card: B+ The selection is pretty good. There are several pieces of high designer items but you have to do a little bit of digging. The discount isn't the highest but the selection makes up for it. You also can't underestimate the value of duty-free, tax-free, and free shipping.

Cecilie Bahnsen dress ($283 from $567)
Report Card: B There is nothing that can't be found on Farfetch. Everything is there. Pricing can sometimes be confusing. In the past, we've spotted major discounts and turned away to find that the sale price has disappeared. We aren't quite sure how that can happen so quickly. This is a solid markdown but you can bet there is a lot more to come.

MatchesFashion
Discount Amount: Up to 50% off
Don't Miss:

Balenciaga BB logo velvet mules ($600 from $1200)

Neiman Marcus
Discount Amount: Up to 50% off
Don't Miss:
Off-White top handle bag ($965 from $1600)

See by Chloe white eye-lit blouse ($200 from $414)
Report Card: C- Unfortunately, this sale doesn't seem to contain anything we haven't seen before. We are quite sure that the bankruptcy proceedings will inhibit major markdowns. Once Neiman Marcus settles its plans we are sure to see lots more markdowns.

It shouldn't be a lot of time until a lot more of the top designer merchandise is added. During the past few seasons, Saks has scattered the price reduction of bags to keep us coming back. This is a site you will want to keep a close eye on.

OLEHENRIKSEN: Brighten Your Skin and Day with 30% Off

Sponsored by OLEHENRIKSEN and ShopStyle

Everything has scaled back since we've been socially distanced and started spending exorbitant amounts of time at home. Our every day has been significantly pared down: Dress-up has morphed to loungewear, dinner parties have transformed to home-cooked meals with family and the glam squad of the past has been modified to natural beauty.

As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago, I applied my regular beauty and cosmetic routine and found myself feeling like a clown. From that moment, I made it a mission to find products that enhance my natural features.

OLEHENRIKSEN's brand new, age-defying, 3 Mega Wonders regimen set is exactly what I needed to accentuate my natural glow and enhance my inner beauty. OLEHENRIKSEN uses cruelty-free, paraben-free, and phthalate-free high-performance formulas to improve the look and feel of your skin. The combination of the Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner with the Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum and the C-Rush Brightening Gel Crème, delivers brighter, bouncier, and more vibrant looking skin.

Their new 3 Mega Wonders regimen set offers a complete anti-aging regimen with products that you can use both AM or PM to smooth texture, reduce dark spots, diminish the look of fine lines, and give you a brighter and more moisturized complexion. The set includes all three of the products I mentioned in the following sizes:

This set is a $93 value that's retailing for just $74. You can also get an additional 15% off this set with code MADSPY15 through June 15. That brings the retail price to only $62.90 or 30% off the value price. If you order before May 26, the deal will include a free mini Truth Juice Daily Cleanser and an upgrade to free expedited US shipping. Beautiful, brighter, bouncy skin for that price seems like an amazing deal to me.

Confirmed Chanel Prices for May 2020

The dreaded Chanel price increase is coming stateside in a matter of days. We just received confirmation of pricing and as suspected it's not good but not nearly as bad as the price hikes experienced in other countries.

Also sited on Spottedfashion

Many classic US Chanel bag prices will increase between 5% and 12% on May 25. Other global prices have increased an incredible 17% to 15%.

Price hikes appear to relate to currency values in a specific country. Australia is likely to be the hardest-hit when it comes to price adjustments. Asia and the Middle East have also been susceptible to considerable currency-related shifts.

Raising prices during a global pandemic seems counterintuitive but the initiative is most logically an attempt to maintain worldwide inventory levels. As economies opened in Asia and Europe, images of throngs of desperate Chanel customers have been swarming social media.

The fundamental truth is more likely raising prices to reach revenue targets. Why would Chanel allow a pandemic to get in the way of meeting earnings projections?

Many longtime Chanel customers have voiced disgust in the timing of this price hike and have stated that they will not be adding to their current Chanel collections. A classic Chanel Maxi will now only be about $2000 than a 25cm Birkin ($9850 in Swift). For further comparison, a Cartier Love bracelet is $1400 less than a Maxi Chanel bag.

For now, there are plenty of alternative financial allocations that can be made in the substitution of a new Chanel bag. Vacation and fine jewelry, seem like a more satisfying purchase. What do you think?

Amazing Finds on Yoox

Let's set the record straight: Yoox is a nightmare to shop. There is way too much merchandise on Yoox and nobody could figure out if it's a discount site or a retailer with very good markdowns. Your guess is as good as mine.

After being closed for nearly 10 weeks, Yoox has come back online and there are some major finds on the site. The sorting and scrolling is monotonous but the savings are extreme. Some of the amazing items we found include this Saint Laurent velvet blazer for $575 from $2500, Roger Vivier espadrilles are $250 and I think they retailed for about $700, Chloe mules are $114 from over $400, and this Missoni dress is $133.

Take note, some of Yoox's retail prices are much less than accurate. It's hard to really be sure unless you're hyper-aware of past season pricing. There are also usually only one or two sizes remaining among the most reduced items.

I suggest using the "Lightbox" feature to collect your favorite items. Yoox is great at sending alerts when additional discounts are made and is also known to send special pricing on specific items.Enjoy scrolling!

The Future of Sample Sales & Weekend Shopping

The adrenaline rush while approaching a favorite designer's sample sale feels like a very distant memory but the excitement is undeniable. Even as the world slowly awakens, it's hard to imagine the day where hundreds of customers will swarm racks of clothing.

Jimmy Choo Sample Sale Oct 2019

This week, we reached out to several leaders in the NYC sample sale business to see what the future might look like. Elsa Assouline, the co-founder of Eclipse and the host designer sample sales in LA and on West 14th Street, said that the company has completely converted to online sales and that she has no plans to reopen physical sales right now.

Following a few bumps with their first online sales, Elsa realized that they still have a lot to learn. "I am pretty confident about online sales. I think we are facing lots of new challenges. We have to think about ways to please customers in a different way," Elsa said.

The largest organizer of sample sales in NYC also started online sales but is looking to reopen their stores to the public but only after they ensure that his staff and customers will be safe. It's most likely they will implement a phase-in program where the merchandise will be online and then available for curbside pickup.

If online sample sales are to be successful they will have to create an element of excitement and create an experience that is different from shopping any other online markdown. Creating an experience online is difficult but not impossible. Sample sale organizers can implement the strategies used by Supreme, Yeezy, or Ticketmaster to create experiences that differentiate themselves from retailer discounts.

Finding success in online sample sales is not impossible but could take a considerable amount of time to create a winning formula. In the meantime, there is an abundance of overstock merchandise that will need to be liquidated. That means: Sales, sales, sales.

Tessabit, in Italy, most recently made its markdowns public. Discounts range from 30% to 70% off depending on the item and designer. Most of the selection are items we've seen through various private sales but there is still merchandise worthy of attention. Over this way, we found a Burberry dress reduced to $770 from $2570, Balenciaga double B-knife shoes are $500 from $1000, and Off-White pumps are $365 from $725.

Earlier in the week, Nordstrom began offering deeper discounts on a variety of products. Gianvitto Rossi sandals are $318 from $800, an iconic Off-White leather tote is $572 from $955, and this dress from Sea is $152 from $380.  You can read all the details and see what else we found in the original post, here.

Italist also started a new round of markdowns where discounts hit 60% off. Check out this Prada belt for $157 from about $500 US retail and this beauty case is $230 from $380 US retail. A Saint Laurant bracelet is $188 from $375 US retail and sneakers with stars are $300 from $545. More finds are this way.

This coming week we should see an explosion of Memorial Day sales. Keep your eyes on Net-A-Porter, Moda Operandi,  and Farfetch.

Until next week... Same time, same place?

Nordstrom 2nd Markdowns & Beauty

It's nearly Memorial Day and retailers are getting closer to receiving the okay from top European designers to pull the trigger on deep sales. In the meantime, we are seeing secondary rounds of discounts on what's already been reduced.

A scroll through Nordstrom shows second markdowns on a wide selection of merchandise. Over this way, we found Chloe scalloped flats for $250 from $620, a dip-dyed sweatshirt from Ambush is $270 from $670, an Ulla Johnson embroidered dress is $435 from $725 and Gianvitto Rossi sandals are $318 from $800.

There are also lots of beauty items reduced 25% to 50% off. YSL lipsticks are $26 from $38, Tom Ford foundation is $60 from $90, and Sisley mousse makeup remover is $60 from $120.

With all these  Nordstrom markdowns it's easy to have put together a great new wardrobe for Memorial Day. The only problem is, where are we going?

Italist Discounts Get Serious

As European stores dive deep into sale season, we got a heads up that the multi-boutique platform Italist, was taking increased markdowns. We couldn't help from taking a long scroll to see what deals we could find.

It might be a sign of the times but the discounts are unquestionably very good. Starting off in the Bottega Veneta edit we found the woven twisted sandals reduced under $1100 from nearly $1600 US retail. There are also lots of sizes still available. A full-size Pouch is just $1656 from $2700 US retail and a woven style is $2100 from $3100 US retail. All of the aforementioned items will cost you more even if you purchased them pre-owned.

Taking a spin through the Gucci selection, we spotted a floral print cube bag for $1400 from US retail of $2300, a Supreme quilted bag is $800 from $980 US retail and a blue leather Marmont with white piping is $1683 from $2300. Sizes are really spotty among the shoes but it's worth a sort.

Other highlights throughout the site are this Saint Laurent Sulpice is $1590 from $2290 and Tribute sandals are $390 from $600. Golden Goose sneakers are $332 from about $550 US retail and a Prada PVC tote is $600 from $990.

This Italist merchandise will go fast once word gets out. We suggest that you don't wait very making decisions. This is the magic moment where you get both a great selection and substantial savings.

LN-CC: New Season Gucci and Prada Up to 50% Off

It's serious markdown season across the Atlantic. LN-CC is the latest boutique to start its designer presale. Discounts are up to 50% off with most of the top merchandise going for 30% to 40% off.

To access the woman's sale assortment you can click here. The men's sale assortment can be found here.

Some of the highlights include this Zumi style Gucci bag that's $2000 from $2860, a Prada nylon bag is $1050 from $1750 and Stella McCartney shield glasses are $213 from $395.

The good thing is that LN-CC is not on the shopping radar of most luxury customers and you have a moment to digest your options before everything sells out. It also doesn't hurt that this sale is very private.

Ssense Begins Big Designer Sale

Expect that your email to be bombarded with markdown deals this week. Most sites will begin markdowns of up to 50% off but discounts may vary by retailer and even by item. To kick off the week, Ssense just started its big sale of the season.

The discount is up to 50% off but each item is discounted individually. The link isn't public yet but you can click here for backdoor entry. Over this way is a Saint Laurent camera bag that's $805 from $1150. Givenchy slides are $385 from $550 and these Golden Goose sneakers are $267 from $460.

This Ssense sale isn't exactly as explosive as it would normally be during the first markdown because  Ssense has been hosting regular markdowns since March. We anticipate that there will be a big rush of sale shoppers early this week and more merchandise will be added when the site calms down.

Weekend Shopping: Debunking Chanel Price Myths & More

Coronavirus, murder wasps, and May snowstorm headlines seem unbelievable but are part of our reality. Chanel raising prices 17% this month across all categories worldwide is a myth.

Photo: @dearluxe

Uncovering facts relating to Chanel is difficult during the best of times but is exponentially difficult in a state of worldwide lockdown. Our requests for information from Chanel have been unanswered and all of our high-level retail sources have not received any communications from Chanel relating to a price increase.

As is the case with most falsities, there is a layer of truth relating to Chanel adjusting prices. It's our belief that there will be Chanel price adjustments but the amounts will likely relate to currency values in a specific country. It seems as if the EU nations will likely see a moderate rise in prices and the US will likely see a much smaller adjustment following the opening of stores, in June. Australia is likely to be the hardest-hit when it comes to price adjustments. Asia and the Middle East are also susceptible to considerable currency-related shifts.

Raise prices during a global pandemic seems counterintuitive but the initiative is most logically an attempt to maintain worldwide inventory levels. As economies open, customers will seek out the most opportune location to make a Chanel purchase. A price adjustment assures that shoppers patronize their local stores rather than flock to foreign retailers and devour the inventory in a single region.

We will be sure to keep you updated as this story unfolds. You can click on the image below to see the history of Chanel pricing and what it would look like if prices were to go up 17%.

This week, retail casualties mounted as J. Crew and Neiman Marcus officially filed for bankruptcy protection. Lord & Taylor also announced that they will begin liquidating stores as they open. Mark Cuben started a research project where he employed secret shoppers to investigate the Dallas retail scene. He found that only 36% of retailers immediately opened for business and 96% of stores failed to comply with state guidelines.

In shopping news, local retailers are beginning "pre-designer" markdowns. Saks, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman are all offering about 40% off on brands like Zimmerman, Etro, Balmain, and Isabelle Marant. We spotted these Manolo Blahnik pumps for $266 from $665 and We Wore What bathing suits are all 40% off.

On the other side of the Atlantic, 24S has discounts of 40% off on a cross-section of designer merchandise. The entire edit and code are here. Italian retailer D'aniello is offering shoppers 35% off designer items. You can review our earlier post to see what's included and use the code MOON35PS to engage the savings. Tessabit added products to its 40% off and 50% off private sales.

Don't miss, Saks Off 5th's great selection of Missoni scarves, turbans, scarves, and accessories reduced up to 80% off. Lots have already sold out but there are still some good options.

Looking forward to next week, Ssense will begin its seasonal markdown on Monday. We suggest you begin browsing right now and edit your cart over the weekend. We are also keeping an eye on Nordstrom, which continues to drop prices on assorted merchandise. This Saint Laurent lipgloss is $22 from $32 and these L. Erikson barrettes are adorable at $9 from $23.

Happy Mother's Day!! Until next week... Same time, same place?

D'aniello Boutique Private Designer Sale

Traditionally, sales throughout Europe started much later than the US and the discounts were less. Covid has turned everything upside-down and now European stores are discounting earlier and more aggressively than in the US.

Right now you can use this private sale link to head over to Italy's D'aniello Boutique. Nearly everything on the site is 35% off with the code MOON35PS. The only exclusions are items marked "Carry Over" or "Top Seller."

Some of the most exciting finds include Saint Laurent's,  Balenciaga's, and Prada's most recent collections. The new style Balenciaga knife pumps come to $520 from $800 and a Hello Kitty camera bag is $669 from $1029. Prada sneakers with the triangle logo are $410 from $650 US retail and a Prada cashmere sweater is $585 from $900. Don't miss the YSL Casandra heels or Fendi Canvas espadrilles.

The code doesn't work for additional savings on sale merchandise but there are still a couple items worth your attention. This Balmain sweatshirt is reduced by 50% and comes to $258 from $517 and this Moncler hat is $200 from $400.

D'aniello offers free shipping for purchases over $300 and all taxes and duties are included in the purchase price. You might even find a few items priced below US retail. It's starting to feel like Europe has the upper hand this sale season. Do you agree?

24S Private Sale: 40% Off

This week's pre-designer sales haven't overly exciting. When it comes to sales, it seems as if European retailers are doing it much better. 24S is the most recent online store to offer up to 40% off on current designer merchandise and you might find they have a bit of an edge over what you might find at local stores.

To access the private sale you must use this link and enter your log-in information. I spotted Balmain houndstooth blazer is $1377 from $2300. Check out this maxi dress from Chufi that's $470 from $770 and this Zimmerman classic short dress is $594 from $650. Some other standouts include these Off-White rain boots that are $123 from $177 and this Coperni "Wifi" bag can be statement-making even from home at $517 from $740.

24S is LVMH owned and therefore offers brands, like Dior, which you can't find on many other websites. The best value of shopping on 24S is that all duties are included in the sale price, shipping is free, and there is no sales tax. My last order from 24S arrived in 30 hours after my "complete order" click.

You might even be able to order this Dior Book Tote, friendship bracelets or J'Dior pumps right now and still get it in time for Mother's Day. (Remember no sales tax!) It's a stretch but not impossible. If only someone could figure out how to get schools open, we could really celebrate.

Bergdorf Goodman Pre-Designer Sale Begins Too

Bergdorf Goodman is following in the footsteps of Neiman Marcus and beginning markdowns on a selection of designer merchandise. A  40% discount has been applied to some luxury brands of clothing and contemporary shoes and handbags.

Among the shoes, you will find discounts on some Guissepi Zanotti sandals and some Manolo Blahniks. Here are Manolo snakeskin sandals for $435 from $725. The best merchandise is among the clothing where you will find discounts on items from Zimmerman, Etro, Balmain, and Isabelle Marant.

Some of our favorite sale pieces include a Balmain tank for $237 from $400 or a classic blazer for $1377 from $2300.  Birkenstock-style sandals from Isabel Marant are $340 from $565, a Zimmerman floral print dress is $450 from $750 and an Etro paisley print blazer is $816 from $1350.

Don't forget, Bergdorf is still offering 25% off beauty items. It's an opportune time to stock up on all your La Mer, Tom Ford, and Armani favorites. Wednesday is the last day of the promotion.

Neiman Marcus Pre-Designer Sale Begins Now

Designer sales weren't slated to begin until later this month but no plans are set in a COVID-19 era. Today Neiman Marcus moved its "pre-designer" sale up a full week to begin today.

Click over to the new markdowns selection and inside you will find a selection of merchandise reduced 40% off.  The really big designers--YSL, Fendi, Givenchy, Gucci-- still aren't discounted yet but you can currently find a large variety of Chloe bags. You will also see an array of New York and American designers.

The best merchandise is among the clothing where you will find items Zimmerman, Area, Barbour, and Isabelle Marant. This Zimmerman paisley sundress is reduced to $537 from $900, a Barbour rain jacket is $266 from $380, an Area cocktail dress is $510 from $850 and Khaite shorts are $372 from $620.

We suspect that the calendar will shift forward and more designer merchandise will be added next week. Stay tuned. It's bound to be an interesting ride.

Throwback: Met Gala Throwback to 1997

It’s the first Monday in May, which means that Fifth Avenue would normally be buzzing with Met Gala arrivals. In honor of #HFMetGala2020 (high fashion Met Gala), I’m throwing it back to my pinch-me moment of a lifetime.

It’s 1997, I’m an NYU college student and I decided that my friends and I were going to the MetGala. (Like how I do that?) As the first “Fashion Editor” of the Washington Square News, I got us all access to buy tickets. I wore a to-the-navel plunging-cleavage, Romeo Gigli dress that I grabbed from Daffy’s. (My “date” was in a permanent state of blushing, which I ignored all night.)

To set the scene, the evening started with Barbara Walter’s toe under my foot. I apologized and my head swooned from the pulsing adrenaline. Every way I looked, there is a star fashion designer or mega-celebrity.

The evening unfolded with a series of ‘you-can't-believe’ moments. While I was observing the crowd, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Donnatella Versace set her champagne and cigarettes on the table asked me to watch them. Madonna and Cher come over to pose. As the top picture was taken, I took a gulp of Donatella’s champagne and thought “this will make a great story.”

I’m just to the right of this top capture. The 1997 theme was Gianni Versace and the event memorialized his contributions to fashion following his murder. I attended the Met Gala a few more times but 1997 was arguably the best party in Met Gala's history-- but maybe I'm biased.

Saks' Expanded 40% Off Sale

Despite a perilous retail environment, retailers have been very methodical about their markdowns.  Saks Fifth Avenue just expanded its Spring sale and included many more upscale designers to the 40% off discount--.

The sale selection now includes an assortment including the likes of  Chloe, Balmain, Off-White, and Zimmerman. Here is a Zimmerman dress for $288 from $429, an Off-White sports crop top is $165 from $275. Check out these Isabelle Morant high-top sneakers that are $162 from $270 and these Nicholas Kirkwood satin shoes could doup as Manolos for $626 from $900.

Over the course of the month, you can expect to see several more of the European designers added to the sale list. A normal designer markdown schedule usually occurs around Memorial Day, which doesn't put us too far from the usual path.

Weekend Shopping: Impulses & Obsessions

Welcome to week eight of quarantine weekend shopping. This week was bumpy. Schools are officially closed for the remainder of the school year and J. Crew announced a perilous future.  Trying to digest all this information can be difficult. We just hope camp isn't the next big blow. For now, pour your favorite drink and get your scrolly finger ready to tap through my latest impulses and obsessions.

Bergdorf Goodman slipped us a love note that said they will be offering 25% off all beauty starting at 10pm Saturday night. We suggest you 'add to cart now'. Be sure to add some La Mer,  Cle De Pleua, and Chanecaille to the cart. You also can probably still get a new fragrance to mom for Mother's Day and beauty bundles always make great gifts.

Over at Neiman Marcus, you can save up to an additional 35% off when you purchase three or more sale items.  The selection is pretty picked over but these Manolo sandals aren't that much more money than Birkenstocks at $200 from $700 and this See by Chloe dress is $127 from $465.

This week, Tessabit reduced a selection of designer merchandise to half-off. Mad-Spy readers can access the sale through this link with the code: MADISONAVENUE50XT.

Valentino Rockstud pumps are $500 from $1000, a Max Mara wool Teddy coat is $1000 from $3600 US retail, and a Balenciaga sweater is $600 from nearly $1200. There are no duties or taxes from Tessibit and shipping is just $20. Click here to read more details to see what other great items I found.

Nordstrom has also been adding additional items to its sale selection.  Manolo Hangisi flats are $725 from $1025, Roger Vivier pumps are $525 from $575, and a Nili Lotan puff-sleeve shirt is $118 from $400.

Stay tuned. Designer pre-sales are coming up soon. Until next week... Same time, same place?
